辨析:dying, die, death 与dead
dying adj. 垂死的,即将死亡的,作表语或定语。
die,短暂性动词,表示动作,意为“死亡”,指生命的结束。
death n. 死亡
dead adj.死的,常和be动词连用,表示状态。

the sick 病人, 是“the+ 形容词” 结构,泛指某一类人。作主语时谓语动词a用复数形式。
sick 表示“生病的”, 既可作表语, 又可以作定语。
ill 表示“生病的”, 一般作表语。
e.g. He is busy taking care of his sick wife who has been ill/sick for weeks. 他正忙着照顾生病的妻子, 她已经病了好几个星期了。
⑥He invented special medical tools to use outside hospitals and close to the fighting areas so that doctors could treat the wounded more quickly.

原因、目的和结果状语从句
类型 引导词 用法及例句
原因状语 从句 because because 引导的原因状语从句表示直接原因, 语气最强, 用于回答why 引导的 特殊疑问句。because 引导的原因状语从句一般置于主句之后。 e.g. I do it because I like it. 我做这件事是因为我喜欢。
目的状语 从句 so that 表示行为的目的, 可与in order that 进行转换。 e.g. He went to school without breakfast so that he wouldn’t be late. 为了不迟到, 他没吃早饭就去上学了。
结果状语 从句 so so 用作连词, 主要用于表结果, 意为“所以”, 主句表示原因, 从句表示由于该原因而导致的结果。 e.g. He worked too hard, so he fell ill again. 他工作太努力了, 所以又病倒了。
注意: 1. 目的状语从句可由so that 引导。从句中通常有can, could, may, might 等情态动词。
e.g. I hurried through my work so that I could be in time for wonderful TV programmes.
我匆匆完成我的工作, 以便能够及时收看到精彩的电视节目。
2. so that 与so 一词之差, 前者引导目的状语从句, 后者引导结果状语从句。从句动词也有区别: 目的状语从句表示未来、可能性, 而结果状语从句表示已经发生。
e.g. He wanted to help patients, so he became a doctor.
他想帮助病人, 所以他当了医生。
