Unit 14 I remember meeting all of you in Grade 7.
1. survey n.

7. look back at回首，回忆，回顾

8. overcome
v. overcome--overcame--overcome 克服，战胜 =get over
他克服了学习和生活中的所有困难，最终通过了这次考试。
He overcame all the difficulties in the study and life, and passed the exam in the end.
9. make a mess 弄得一团糟
1) 他沉迷于游戏，所以他把自己的工作弄的一团糟。
He lost himself in the game and made a mess in his job.

10. graduate
1) v. graduate graduate from...从...毕业

11. keep one’s cool

How fast the time went by!

13. degree
1) n. (大学)学位

2) n. 度数
水在零摄氏度结冰。 Water freezes at zero degrees centigrade.
3) n. 程度
在某种程度上 in some degree = to a certain degree
14. believe in
辨析believe in与believe
believe in 表示信任某人，相信某人的品行，也可指信仰，信奉真理、宗教等。后街名词、代词或动名词作宾语。
believe 表示相信某人所说的话或所做的事。后接名词、代词或从句作宾语。
我信任你，所以我相信你说的话。 I believe in you, so I believe what you said.

16. first of all
辨析first of all与at first
first of all 首先 用于说明事物的排列顺序，后面常与next, then等连用，语气比first要强烈。
at first 起初 用于强调事情发生的先后顺序，暗示后来的情况有所改变，常与later, soon等连用
起初，我不习惯吃中国食物，但是现在我爱上中国食物了。
At first, I didn’t get used to eating Chinese food, but now I fall in love with it.
17. congratulate
1) v. 祝贺
congratulate sb. 向某人祝贺
首先，我想祝贺今天所有在座的同学们。
First of all, I’d like to congratulate all the students who are here today.
congratulate sb. on sth. 为某事向某人祝贺
我们祝贺他通过了考试。
We congratulated him on having passed the exam.
2) n. congratulation 祝贺，常用复数形式表示祝贺。
offer/send your congratulations to sb.
18. thirsty
be thirsty for = be hungry for
你们所有人都充满了活力并渴求知识。
You are all full of energy and thirsty for knowledge.
他渴望取得更大的进步。He is thirty for making greater progress.

You can’t imagine how much I am thirsty for success.
19. thankful=grateful
be thankful to sb for sth 因为...对...心存感激
永远不要忘记感恩你们周围的人。
Never fail to be thankful to the people around you.
对你的建议我们深表感谢。We are very thankful to you for your advice.
appreciate v. 欣赏 感激
I truly appreciate what teachers have done for us.
20. ahead
1) adv. 向前面，在前面
前面有危险。There’s danger ahead.
火车缓缓向前移动。The train moved ahead slowly.
2) go ahead 常用语口语中，表示同意对方的请求。译为“说吧，做吧，开始吧，进行吧”
3) head of在...前面
我们前面还有很长一段路要走。We have a long way ahead of us.
工作提前完成了。The work was done ahead of time.
21. along with
1) 连同；除...以外还
伴随着困难，也会有许多令人兴奋的事情等着你们。
Along with difficulties, there will also be many exciting things waiting for you.
2) 用在动词短语后面，意为“与...一起”，= together with。当along with连接的内容与前面的内容共同作主语时，谓语动词的数由along前面的主语的数来决定，即“就前原则”。
她正和父母一起为春节做准备。
She along with her parents is preparing for the Spring Festival.
露西和她的父母下个月要去上海。
Lucy along with her parents is going to Shanghai next month.
22. responsible
1) be responsible for 对...有责任；负责任
明智地选择并对你们的决定和行动负责任。
Choose wisely and be responsible for your decisions and actions.
父母应该对子女的安全负责。
Parents should be responsible for their children’s safety.
2) n. responsibility 责任
在日常生活中，阻止水浪费使我们的责任。
It’s our responsibility to prevent the water from being wasted.
23. separate
1) separate from 分离；隔开
区分好人和坏人很困难。
It’s very difficult to separate good persons from bad ones.
2) separation n. 分开，分离
separately adv.
3) divide ...into 把...分成
The apple is divided into two parts.
24. set out
1) 出发，启程= set off
set out for+地点 出发/启程去某地
让我们开始新的旅程吧，我相信我们会有一个美好的未来。
Let’s set out on a new journey, I believe we’ll have a bright future.
2) set out to do sth. 开始/着手做某事
我开始投入更多的努力在学习上。I set out to put more effort into schoolwork.
