His mother ____38____. “I guessed so. But I like hearing the sound of your voice while I work.”
Jatto knew what she meant. He had enjoyed listening to her story as he bottled the nuts. It made the work seem ____39____. “I have an idea,” he said. “Next time, I will read a story to you in English, then I will tell you the same story in Esan. We can even make up songs together.”
“Great! And I will tell you stories in Esan and you can say them back to me in English. Let’s ‘never’ stop ____40____ stories.”

Scientists study the world and learn about things using a process called the scientific method. By asking important questions and searching for the answers, they are likely to make amazing discoveries. Sometimes,a scientist is unable to answer his or her own questions, but if he or she has taken good notes, another scientist who comes along later may be able to use new knowledge to answer them.
When you use the scientific method to do an experiment, you start by observing(观察) something that interests you. Based on your observations, you make a hypothesis. This is using what you know to make a smart guess about what you think could happen or what may be happening. Then, you are ready to begin your experiment. Throughout your experiment, you take down notes, which are called experimental data. You should be constantly making observations during this process. You may make discoveries that cause you to improve your experiment as you go. Finally, you conclude your experiment and begin to look over your notes to decide what it all means. Based on what you have learned, you make a final statement about whether your hypothesis was correct or not. You have to have reasons and evidence to support what you are saying.
Learning to use the scientific method can be difficult, but it is rewarding. Because all the steps are organized, the results are more reliable. When you provide your observations as evidence to support what you are saying. your ideas are more likely to be accepted.
41.According to the article,experimental data is .
A.the observations that interest you
B.a final statement about your hypothesis
C.a smart guess about what you think could happen
D.the notes taken down from your observations during an experiment
42.The underlined word "hypothesis" means " ".
A.thoughts B.doubts C.supposes D.procedures
43.By writing this article, the author mainly wanted to .
A.introduce the scientific method to readers
B.teach readers how to conduct an experiment
C.tell readers the importance of observing things
D.encourage readers to become more interested in science

Looking at art should be like walking in the countryside. You may not know exactly where you are, what bird is making that strange sound, or what the hill ahead of you is called, but that’s part of the fun of it. You don’t need to know these things to feel the beauty of nature.
Of course, if you do know your birds, trees and local history, a walk can be more attractive. Yet such knowledge comes slowly. It is picked up through experience. A true knowledge of nature cannot just be given to you through an app on your phone. Imagine pointing your phone at the hill and getting plenty of information on screen. Would that enrich your dreamy walk or ruin it
Braggarts enjoy an app that allows them to show off their knowledge, for example, about baroque (巴洛克风格的) paintings. In fact, apps in museums try to provide on-screen art history at once just to encourage people to read their phones instead of looking at paintings.
It is a mistaken idea that you need to be spoon-fed (灌输) amazing facts about a work of art in order to appreciate it. Our first experience of a work of art should be raw (自然状态的), unguided, and a bit puzzling, like following a path in the woods. Later, you might choose to do some personal research into the work. It can further increase your enjoyment and appreciation for it. Yet it is best done when you’re away from the art itself, so that even when you return, the work still feels fresh.
Anyone who thinks knowing some dates and details makes you better understand a work of art is wrong. We all need to put aside our screens and our supposed knowledge when we look at art. Let the paintings flow in, let your intuitions (直觉) fly off. Art is a journey in the wilderness or it is nothing at all.
44.What does the writer mainly want to say _______
A.Art is best with the help of apps. B.Art is best when hidden in mystery.
C.Art is nothing compared with nature.
D.Art is nothing when details and facts are known.
45.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4 _______
A.How to appreciate a work of art.
B.How to do personal research into a work of art.
C.How to keep your feelings about a work of art fresh.
D.How to be spoon-fed amazing facts about a work of art.
46.What can we infer from the passage _______
A.Because of apps, art will be ruined in the future.
B.A good piece of art is usually made about nature.
C.Research work and intuitions can both help understand art.
D.Museums are not supposed to allow the use of mobile phones.

In university I had a part-time job at a shop that sold doughnuts(炸面圈) and coffee. Situated on a block where several buses stopped, it served the people who had a few minutes to wait for their bus.
Every afternoon around four o'clock, a group of schoolchildren would burst into the shop, and business would come to a stop. Adults would glance in, see the crowd and pass on. But I didn't mind if the children waited for their bus inside. Sometimes I would hand out a bus fare(车费) when a ticket went missing —always repaid the next day. On snowy days I would giveaway some doughnuts. I would lock the door at closing time, and we waited in the warm shop until their bus finally arrived.
I enjoyed my young friends, but it never occurred to me that I played an important role in their lives - until one afternoon when a man came and asked if I was the girl working on weekdays around four o'clock. He named himself as the father of two of my favorites.
“I want you to know I appreciate what you do for my children. I worry about them taking two buses to get home. It means a lot that they can wait here and you keep an eye on them. When they are with the doughnut lady, ! know they are safe.” I told him it wasn't a big deal, and that I enjoyed the kids.
So I was the Doughnut Lady. I not only received a title, but became a landmark.
Now I think about all the people who keep an eye on my own children. They become, well, Doughnut Ladies. Like the men at the skating rink(滑冰场) who let my boys ring home; Or the bus driver who drove my daughter to her stop at the end of the route at night but wouldn't leave until I arrived to pick her up; Or that nice police officer who took pity on my boys walking home in the rain when I was at work - even though the phone rang all the next day with calls from curious neighbors. "Was that a police car I saw at your house last night "
That wasn't a police car. That was a Doughnut Lady.
47.According to the passage, the author sometimes _______.
A. sold bus tickets to the children
B. did business with the children's help
C. called the children's parents to pick them up
D. provided schoolchildren with warm shelters
48.By saying “... it wasn't a big deal," (in paragraph 4) the author meant that _______.
A. she hadn't done anything very important
B. she hadn't spent plenty of time with the children
C. she hadn't made a lot of money from the children
D. she hadn't found it hard to get along with the children
49.According to the author, who are Doughnut Ladies
A. Those who are always ready to help others.
B. Those who provide free doughnuts for the poor.
C. Those who are curious about the happenings around.
D. Those who work in the doughnut store for a while
50. The passage suggests that _______.
A. taking responsibility is a virtue B. devotion co-exists(并存) with reward
C. acts of kindness are never too small D. running a business requires skills

Many Westerners thinks that everyone in China knows how to do kung fu. This is, of course, a silly belief. But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.
Like most people from the West, I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films. Some Chinese kung fu stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The cool and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble In The Bronx and Enter The Dragon made them household names in the US and elsewhere.
However, my own personal interest in kung fu was actually encouraged by a hip-hop group. Wu- Tang Clan, founded in the early 1990s in New York City, is one of the most famous hip - hop groups in history.
In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts(哲学理念)that come from wudang quan—the style of Chinese martial arts from which they take their name—and the Shaolin Monastery. I was just a teenager when I first started listening to Wu -Tang Clan—little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!
I myself do not practice kung fu. However, the concepts behind it are quite interesting to me. There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I'm struggling with challenges in life. Be formless. . . shapeless, like water, " he once said. By this, he meant that you should be ready to change your attitudes or beliefs when you face difficulties. I think this is a good way to deal with life.

It is our duty to keep our environment clean and tidy. In our daily life, we must collect wasted paper for recycling. In spring, we can plant trees or flowers near our homes with family or friends. I’m Ted. Last summer, my brother and I decided to make some money for our holiday travel. We made a plan: We would buy some toys at the market and then sell them.
On the first evening, we came to a mall and sold the toys in front of it. We waited for our first customer excitedly. However, many people passed by, but few would have a look at our toys. My brother advised me to shout out to draw people’s attention. Though I felt a bit shy at first, I shouted with him at last. It worked. Soon, we got our first customer and sold a toy monkey. At the end of that day, we sold five toys in total. On the seventh night, a policeman noticed us and warned us to leave. So our business life ended. We sold 60 toys and got about 300 yuan. The money was far from enough for our travel, but we learned that making money was not easy.参考答案
