Social media often report concerns like the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and only listening to people that you agree with. That is what we call echo chamber (回声室效应). But how can we really break it apart One way, make friends, especially friends of another race.
I know most people have few black friends. Many people, many white people, could easily go their whole lives without ever getting to know someone of another race, which requires effort.
Making a new friend is a hard period. Making a friend of another race is harder yet. You don’t have common experience and instant friendship. And, for Black people, going out of our way to make a white friend requires trust. And this is not to say that white people should go seek out strangers or acquaintances (熟人) and say, tell me about your Black experience. Do not do that. That’s not friendship. That’s a trade.
Real friendship means a willingness to listen carefully, and have your views challenged, because your Black friend doesn’t see the world the same way you do. It’s going to require you to do the important work of earning and offering trust, so that, if you make a mistake or misstep, you will have some good will to fall back on. But, even before that, it starts with stepping outside your comfort zone. A different social circle isn’t just going to fall in your lap. You’re going to have to think carefully about where you live and where your children go to school, the activities you take part in. That’s because it’s going to be impossible to create a meaningful connection with someone of another race if you’re only around people who look like you. So, these friendships are going to require putting actions behind intentions.
24.What does “it” in the paragraph 1 refer to
A. Hate speech B. Echo chamber C. Social media. D. Wrong information.
25.In the author’s opinion,__________.
A. it is beneficial to make a friend of another race
B. friendship with the black needs common experience
C. most people are willing to make friends of another race
D. it’s unnecessary for the white to make friends of another race
26.What is the author’s attitude to going seek out Black strangers
A. Unclear. B. Favorable. C. Unconcerned. D. Unfavorable.
27.What does the author suggest doing in the last paragraph
A. Counting on people alike.
B. Living with different races.
C. Seeing eye to eye with our Black friends.
D. Laying stress on actions rather than intentions.

China has set new rules limiting the amount of time children can play online games. The rules limit children to just three hours of online game playing a week. That is one hour between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks.
Li Zhanguo has two children aged 4 and 8. Even though they do not have smart phones, they enjoy playing online games. Like many other parents, Li is happy with new government rules. But experts say it is unclear if such policies can help prevent addiction to online games. Children might just get addicted to social media instead. In the end, experts say, parents should be the ones to set limits and support good practices.
There has been a growing concern in China about gaming addiction among children. Government reports in 2018 found that about one in 10 Chinese children were addicted to the Internet. The new rules are part of an effort to prevent young people from spending too much time on unhealthy entertainment. That includes what officials call the “irrational fan culture”.
Under the new rules, the responsibility for making sure children play only three hours a day falls largely on Chinese gaming companies like NetEase and panies have set up real-name registration systems to prevent young users from going past game time limits. They have used facial recognition technology to check their identities. And they have also set up a program that permits people to report what is against the law. It is unclear what punishments gaming companies may face if they do not carry out the policies. And even if such policies are performed, it is also unclear whether they can prevent online addiction.
A specialist treating internet addiction expects about 20 percent of children will find ways to break the rules by borrowing accounts of their older relatives and find a way around facial recognition. In his opinion, short-video apps such as Douyin and TikTok are also very popular in China. They are not under the same restrictions as games.
28.When can children play games according to the new rules
A. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday.
B. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
C. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday.
D. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday.
29.According to experts,_________.
A. the new rules can stop children’s addiction to social media
B. companies are more responsible for kids’ obeying the rules
C. the new rules will help prevent children playing online games
D. parents play a greater part in limiting the time of online games
30.What will children probably do to battle with the new rules
A. Design an advanced program. B. Use facial recognition systems.
C. Set up real-name registration systems. D. Borrow accounts of their older relatives.
31.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Rules Limiting Short-video Apps. B. Rules Limiting Video Game Time.
C. Rules Banning Irrational Fan Culture. D. Rules Breaking Addition to Social Media.
D
Have you ever imagined that your simple T-shirt could cool you down by up to 5℃ on these hot summer days Thanks to a recent discovery, the possibility is getting closer. While there are many alternatives that manage to keep the body warm, this amazing invention aims to offer real relief for those who are eager to feel comfortable and fresh in the outdoors on extremely hot days.
Its inventors, engineers Ma Yaoguang of Zhejiang University and Tao Guangming of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, took a completely innovative approach. They designed a special textile (纺织物) that can absorb body heat and re-emit (再发射) its energy into space as mid-infrared radiation (MIR). This textile cools both the objects and their surroundings through a technique that is known as radiative (辐射的) cooling, Science reveals (揭露). This means that even when it looks like you are wearing a regular shirt, you are actually wearing a device that works like a mirror.
Research conducted at Stanford University in 2017 had already managed to cool the wearer by 3℃, but this previous trial was limited. So researchers still need to test the new approach to determine how effectively the new fabric cools while the wearers are standing or walking, and not directly facing the sky, like in their trials. They also need to examine and measure how well it works when T-shirts are not in close contact with the skin.
Inventors Yaoguang and Guangming are now looking for textile manufacturers and clothing brands that are interested in using their fabric. They estimate that the new material will increase clothing manufacturing costs by just 10 percent. “We can make it with mass production, which means everybody can get a T-shirt and the cost is basically the same as theirs,” old Yaoguang said.
So if you are an athlete or simply someone that has to deal with the extremely high temperatures, be patient because your days of feeling hot and bothered may be coming to an end!
32.What is the purpose of the new invention
A. To warm up people’s body. B. To cool people off in hot weather.
C. To detect the wearers’ temperature. D. To protect clothes from becoming wet.
33.How does the special product work
A. By turning sunlight into energy. B. By sending out absorbed heat.
C. By keeping heat out completely. D. By using light colors to reflect sunlight.
34.What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A. The invention needs further testing.
B. The previous studies lack evidence.
C. The new fabric has a good cooling effect.
D. The new fabric applies to various situations.
35.The invention of the T-shirt may be an example of ________.
A. barking up the wrong tree B. robbing Peter to pay Paul
C. killing two birds with one stone D. putting the cart before the horse

Dear Mary,
I'm sorry to hear that your parents don’t approve of your joining the volunteer association in your community, because they are concerned that it will influence your study. However, this problem can be solved with the following tips.
To begin with, tell them you will do the voluntary work in your spare time, which won’t affect your study. Besides, it’s a good chance to communicate with more people, thus helping you accumulate social experience. Last but not least, it is important to improve your grade in school to make your parents believe your devotion.
I hope my advice will be of some help to you. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
