第一节:
Dear Peter,
Knowing that you are anxious about high school life, I feel sorry for you. But it is something every teenager will go through. Here I am writing to give you some advice on how to get used to your new life.
It always comes first to manage your time wisely, which helps to balance your study and life. Making some new friends as soon as possible is also helpful. For example, to make friends you could try to smile at everyone you meet. Last but not least, why not do more exercise In this way you can free yourself from the study pressure.
I hope you will benefit from my advice, and wish you will adapt to high school life soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:
Then I saw Ryan running towards me. Suddenly the scene struck me where he fell flat and I laughed at him crazily, I thought he would join in with those laughing at me. I lowered my head, my face burning with embarrassment. However, Ryan didn’t laugh. Instead, he approached me from behind, quickly took off his jacket and offered it to me, signaling to me to cover my torn jeans. Struggling against my tears, I did want to express my gratitude to him but courage failed me. I left the courtyard in total silence.
That night, after the cheer at the football game, I found Ryan. I thanked him for giving me his jacket and returned it to him. Gathering my courage, I sincerely apologized to him for my misconduct on the bus, and thanked him for helping me out of an equally embarrassing situation. Ryan, with a broad smile, patted me on the shoulder and told me to forget about it, joking he fell like that a lot. I admired his honesty and sense of humor, and realized that he was someone I could be great friends with. Honestly, Monday was a great day indeed!

Text 1
M: Hi, Betty. Johnson would like to have dinner with us before the movie.
W: Hmm...Maybe you’d better go without me. I have an article to do tomorrow. I’m sorry to let you down.
M: That’s OK.
Text 2
M: What do you do in your spare time
W: Well, I like shopping and I jog every day. But there is nothing I enjoy more than drawing pictures.
Text 3
W: We have a flight that will get you to Washington at 9: 00 am. Is that OK
M: Do you have anything earlier I have an appointment at 8: 30. I’ve got to be there at least an hour ahead of time.
Text 4
M: Hey, this photocopier looks nice, the X40.
W: Hmm. A bit expensive. The RX200 looks fast. It does 25 copies a minute.
M: So does the BT100. And it’s cheaper and smaller. Let’s get this one.
Text 5
W: Mark, do you know what is on TV
M: I’m not sure. The actors sing in a special way and use traditional Chinese music in the background. Their faces look interesting too.
W: Yeah, it’s quite different from Western operas.
Text 6
M: Joan just invited me to a party at her house on Friday.
W: Wow, I’m sure you’ll have a great time.
M: ⑥Well, I don’t know. I don’t know her friends very well. And I’m no good at small talk. What if I say something stupid
W: Hey, relax. Just talk about something you know they’re interested in.
M: That’s the case. I don’t know what these friends are interested in.
W: For example, ⑦you can talk about the weather.
M: You must be joking. The weather is boring.
W: In this way you can find out what they like to do. On a sunny day, you say, “What do you do in such great weather ”
M: Well, I’ll give it a try.
Text 7
W: Good morning. Can I help you
M: I’d like to make a complaint about my holiday in Portugal last week.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. What exactly was the problem
M: First of all, ⑧the coach taking us to the hotel broke down and we had to wait for over two hours before a replacement arrived. Then when we got to the hotel we found out the room was small and hadn’t been cleaned.
W: Oh dear!
M: Anyway, that’s not all. ⑨The people in the room above us sounded like they were having all-night parties, every night. I demanded another room but the receptionist told me the hotel was full.
W: I do apologise.
Text 8
M: Hey, Deb, let’s go to a movie. You’ve been working on these bills for hours now.
W: You’re impossible!
M: Why
W: ⑩Haven’t I been telling you that we can barely make ends meet
M: But I’ve been trying to cut down on our expenses lately.
W: Well, maybe, but you’ve been turning up the heat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit every day and that’s been costing us an additional $70 to $80 a month.
M: Deb, you know I’ve had to do that. I get sick every single time the temperature goes below 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
W: Oh, oh. Look at this telephone bill! It’s for $90! That’s impossible! Have you been making calls to Edison, New York
M: Oh, yeah. I did make just one call there last month.
W: Well, they charged us for four calls. Mmm. I’ll have to call them and figure it out.
Text 9
M: Hey Susie! How’ve you been
W: Pretty good...Just trying to keep up with class work. I have to hand in an essay on Monday. That is killing me! I keep sitting down to work on it, but just end up with nothing. I paid attention in class, but I just don’t think I understand the task quite right.
M: Yeah, be patient. I’m preparing a play. My group have already met many times, but we aren’t quite ready yet. That wasn’t exactly the hardest part of our study.
W: Oh, I’m really looking forward to Spring Break.
M: Me, too. Will you come to Jason’s birthday party tonight
W: Well, actually I made plans with my mum to take part in a 10-kilometre run to benefit a cancer research. That’s Saturday morning, so it isn’t a great time to go out.
M: But if you want to stop by earlier this evening, feel free.
W: Uh...Maybe I’ll see you tonight. Will you come to the race tomorrow
M: Alright. I actually know a brave kid fighting with cancer and I want to help people with cancer.
Text 10
W: Now, as you’re new, I’m just going to show you a map of the hospital and point out a few key places. At the moment, we’re in the main building, that’s there...and if you go out of the main entrance and just along the main road to the east, you’ll find the staff leisure center. There’s a range of things that you can do here to help you relax. If you get ill, we do have a health center for all employees, and this is directly behind the main hospital building. And there is a small garden next to it. Many of you might like to go to the 24-hour swimming pool. They’re very close by, and it doesn’t cost much money to get in. If you walk out of the main building, there’s a road straight ahead of you. Go down that and turn left into Tye Road — you’ll see the pool entrance at the end of that road. Finally, if you want a healthy meal and you have very little time to get it, of course there’s always the dining hall inside the main building. But I would recommend a place called Jenny’s Restaurant which is near the main building. You can get a number of excellent dishes here at a reasonable price. Well, I think that’s all. Thank you.恩施三中高一年级第一次月考

Stefany Bibb has been a teacher at the John F. Kennedy High School for over twenty years. She is also the person who started the schools Kindness Club.
Members of the Kindness Club are made up of students in every grade. The aim is to help students and spread kindness. Students who’re in the Kindness Club frequently hold the door open politely for others, welcome other students and teachers every morning, and focus on being respectful and helpful.
“I like to make people smile, because it lights up my world and I know it makes them feel warm inside, too,” said Aniyah Cox, a tenth-grader who’s a member of the Kindness Club.
Recently, Bibb led students from the Kindness Club to paint stones with messages of generosity. They also spent time at school making a special garden for these stones outside the teaching building.
The Kindness Rock Garden is decorated with colorful pinwheels(风车)that blow in the wind. On the lawn(草坪), there are painted stones of many sizes and shapes, many of them with encouraging messages or creative designs.
Students can even keep the stones with them for up to one week before returning them to the garden, and if a student wants to keep them for more time, they get to paint another stone to replace the one they took.
“You can also pass your rock down to your friends, so you can make their day,” Aniyah said.
The garden is just another way the Kindness Club can help with putting smiles on other people’s faces. And Bibb hopes the kindness can be passed on to their home life as well.
“Nothing they have done is because of me,” Bibb said. “They’re naturally kind. What we have achieved is thanks to their kindness. How amazing they are! I’m just like, here, do what you do. ”

Recently, a design student has developed an auto-mini robot — “A” seedbot that can search through vast deserts, sowing seeds when it finds a proper area to plant a tree.
The “A” seedbot, created by Mazyar Etehadi from the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, could be a new and innovative way to transform deserts into greenery. “Planting trees in the desert area can keep the sand and protect the environment, ” said Etehadi. It was launched at the Global Grad Show (GGS) , an event that has designers come together to showcase innovations that could solve today’s environmental issues.
In an area where high temperatures are limiting to life, the importance of growing plants is crucial. Just eight inches long, the tiny robot is equipped with its own solar panels(太阳能板), allowing it to charge during the day and continue working through the night. It can operate all on its own, using its 3D-printed legs to search for viable spots to plant a seed. In doing so, designers seek to understand how roots work and also to design sensors that might monitor soil pollution, search for minerals and look for water.
The robot has a distance sensor that it uses to send reports back to its controller. The only time human needs to step in is to refill the robot with more seeds. “I think it was an easy solution to come up with, but no one had made it, and here comes my idea! It means a lot to the people who have been fighting against the deserts for generations, ” said Etehadi. Going forward, he hopes his idea can be adopted by the government, the farming industry, and private individuals as a more efficient way to grow plants.

A. To lower the temperature.
B. To protect the trees.
C. To turn the desert into greenery.
D. To win the prize in the GGS.
29. What can we know about the “A” seedbot
A. It can work around the clock.
B. It is powered by electricity.
C. It monitors minerals and water.
D. It can refill itself with seeds.
30. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “viable” in paragraph 3
A. Distant. B. Empty. C. Dry. D. Suitable.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. A project for creation.
B. A new invention for sowing seeds.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that their friends just aren’t there for them. More than that, sometimes friends are downright rude or even mean. You can’t change people, but you can surround yourself with more positive people. Here are some benefits that spending time with positive friends can provide.
With positive friends, you don’t need to beg for help when you need it because chances are that they will be there for you without asking. Positive individuals want others to be happy, and will go out of their way to help you when you’re feeling down. As ’s Guide to Stress states, “Ideal friendships provide support when you’re down, fun when you’re up, wisdom when you’re lost. ”
Compare that to toxic friends, who might snipe at you or even laugh at you behind your back. Negative people celebrate the downfall of others, and as a result you’ll end up feeling worse about yourself or the situation you’re dealing with. Friends who aren’t positive will add to whatever amount of stress you are feeling.
Your positive friends will not only help you recover from negative hits you take in life, but they will also inspire you to be the best you can be. For example, perhaps you always wanted to be a writer. The negative people in your life will probably tell you all the reasons why you won’t succeed. But who needs that Chances are you have already gone over the reasons why you might fail and this is what has prevented you from trying. But with positive people in your life, you’ll feel more comfortable sharing these types of goals because your friends will give you the emotional push you need to go after what you want in life.
You naturally attract the kinds of friends who are most like you. So if you’re a downer, you’ll probably find that negative people come to you. The same is true for being positive. The more you are able to maintain a positive attitude, the more like-minded people you’ll attract in return.
32. Who are probably your true friends according to the passage
A. Those who you can change gradually.
B. Those who will stay with you when you’re in need.
C. Those who will not turn to you whenever in trouble.
D. Those who are always polite and never waste anything.
33. Why does the writer mention the statement of ’s Guide to Stress
A. To emphasize the importance of friendships.
B. To point out everyone may meet with difficulties.
C. To explain to us what ideal friendships are in reality.
D. To compare the differences between success and failure.
34. What does the writer intend to tell us by saying “The same is true for being positive”
A. It is true that everyone is positive in life.
B. If you are positive, you’ll attract positive friends.
C. The negative people don’t like the positive ones.
D. The positive people would like to stay with everyone.
35. Which of the following is conveyed in this passage
A. Positive friends can benefit you a lot.
B. Friendship is love with understanding.
C. Old friends and old wine are the best.
D. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

A Great Monday
Monday started out great. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my math test that day. I was confident that I would get a high mark. I left my house, and minutes later, I was sitting with my friends on the school bus. We were busy talking about how we spent our weekend. At one stop, a boy named Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped(绊倒)over someone’s foot and THUMP! He fell flat onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily. Ryan picked himself up, dusted his jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by. I did well in my math test. It wasn’t long before the lunch bell rang. I met my friends from the cheer-leading team in the dining hall.
When we finished eating, we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night’s football game. After much practice, we finally managed to do the cheer perfectly. We decided to practice it again one last time. Again, just like the rest of my day so far, the cheer was going great. I raised my leg for one last toe touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans was torn down(裂开)in the middle of my backside.
I froze. I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing and I saw them pointing at my broken jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears began to well up in my eyes.
