I had grown up in a football-loving family; my dad had played until injury forced him out.
My older sister Stevie trained with Crewe Alexandra Girls for a year or two as a left back just like our hero Jamie Carragher.
I remember the exact moment I told my dad I was interested in doing what my big sister did. I was watching the game with him in the living room as a pre-teen and it just came out, “It makes me sad that I can’t be a footballer.” He asked why not, and I answered, “Because I’m not a boy.”
He immediately responded by telling me that women’s football was “great” and that I could play if I wanted to. “Yeah, I suppose,” I responded, “but no one watches women’s football.” Looking back I can see exactly why I felt like that.
At school, there was an unwritten rule that sports like hockey and netball were “girl” sports and rugby and football were for the boys. I’d never seen a women’s football match on TV; the only female athletes I’d heard of were in the Olympics.
Today, the Lionesses will take on Scotland in the World Cup. But although women’s football has turned out to be one of FIFA’s best investments, the majority of female players in top tiers are earning under what anyone would consider a fair wage.
On Twitter you’ll find that the most popular defence of those figures argues that there’s less money in the female side of the game because viewing statistics are lower than those from the male footballers, but the truth is that investment is needed for female football to become more visible and become an equally respected game.
Today, I’ll be cheering on the Lionesses, and its coming home will mean more this time around, because it’ll mean talented, skilful female footballers being broadcast into millions of homes and maybe, just maybe, a little girl believing that she too can be a lioness one day.
4. What do we know about Jamie Carragher
A. He is the author’s teacher. B. He is a friend of the author’s sister’s
C. He’s on the Crewe Alexandra Girls. D. He is an excellent footballer.
5. Which of the following best describes the author’s father
A. Strict. B. Encouraging. C. Creative. D. Critical.
6. What does the author think of the unwritten rule at school
A. Disappointing. B. Flexible. C. Fair. D. Appealing.
7. What should people mainly do if they want to make female football better known
A. Hold more matches. B. Increase investment.
C. Employ more skillful female footballers. D. Broadcast women’s football match on TV every day.
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. A 7. B
【解析】

【4题详解】

【7题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“On Twitter you’ll find that the most popular defence of those figures argues that there’s less money in the female side of the game because viewing statistics are lower than those from the male footballers, but the truth is that investment is needed for female football to become more visible and become an equally respected game.(在推特上你会发现,这些数据最流行的辩护理由是,女足这边的钱少了,因为收视率数据比男足低,但事实是,女足要想提高知名度,成为同样受人尊重的比赛,需要投资)”可知,如果人们想让女子足球更出名,他们应增加投资。故选B。

Iran’s Lake Urmia was once the second-largest saltwater lake in the world covering more than 2,000 square miles at its deepest in the 1990s. In the past two decades, the lake has dried out, decreasing at times to less than 20% of its average size.
It’s not a story of climate change, though that certainly contributed. It’s a case of water mismanagement. Researches blame water overuse and inefficiency in agriculture, new dams(大坝)and irrigation(灌溉)projects, a bridge cutting across the lake, declining rainfall and rising temperature for much of the drying out.
“For me this is a really important topic: the environmental problems in the world,” says photographer Maximilian Mann, who traveled to Iran three times. His photos are collected from all three trips.
Lake researchers say there have been encouraging signs in the past few years. This past spring, massive flooding in Iran helped the lake regain water level as well. Mann’s photos were taken before that flooding.
“The floods certainly helped and increased the water levels,” says Amir AghaKouchak, a professor at the University of California, who has studied the lake. “However, one or a series of floods won’t have a long-term influence. The main issue in the basin is that the water demand is much higher than the renewable water in the basin. If the water demand in the basin is not managed, after a while the lake will continue to dry out. And the situation remains really worrying.”
8. How does the author begin the text ’
A. By giving an example. B. By describing an event.
C. By making a comparison. D. By expressing an opinion.
9. Which of the following is a reason that contributed to the change of the lake
A. Water overuse and inefficiency in industry.
B. Massive flooding.
C. Rising rainfall and declining temperature.
D. New dams and irrigation projects.
10. What do we know about the lake
A. It used to be the second largest lake in the world.
B. It had 2000 miles in depth in the 1990s.
C. It is linked to a new dam by a bridge.
D. It has regained some water level in the past few years.
11. What is Amir AghaKouchak’s attitude toward the future of Iran’s Lake Urmia
A. Pessimistic. B. Hopeful. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. D 11. A

In the past two decades, the lake has dried out, decreasing at times to less than 20% of its average size.”
文章第二段二三句“It’s a case of water mismanagement. Researches blame water overuse and inefficiency in agriculture, new dams(大坝)and irrigation(灌溉)projects, a bridge cutting across the lake, declining rainfall and rising temperature for much of the drying out.”
第四段第二句“ This past spring, massive flooding in Iran helped the lake regain water level as well.”指出上一年的春天,伊朗洪水使湖的水位恢复了一点。由此可知,近年水位恢复了些。故选D。

Just wanting a hamburger, Hembert Figueroa was surprised to learn the dollar bills in his pocket were no good at Dos Toros Taqueria in Manhanttan.
Figueroa, an ironworker, had to stand to the side, holding his hamburger, until a cashier helped him find another customer willing to pay for his meal with a card in exchange for cash. “I had money but I couldn’t pay,” he said.
Cash-free stores are causing a backlash among some activists who say the practice looks down upon people like Figueroa, who either lack bank accounts or rely on cash for many transactions(交易).
Supporters for banning cashless stores worry technology is moving too fast for the 6.5% of American households—8.4 million—that do not have a bank account.
Business owners who go cashless say they are following the lead of majority of customers who are abandoning cash payments. Retailers(零售商)are under pressure to satisfy customers with higher expectations for fast and convenient service, driven by companies like Amazon and Uber.
Leo Kremer, co-worker of Dos Toros, said the amount of cash transactions at his stores fell from about 50% a decade ago to 15% last year. Cash transactions made handling cash especially troublesome. Before going cashless, Dos Toros locations were robbed twice.
Financial experts who work with low-income people caution against making assumptions about the shopping preferences or buying power of those who rely on cash. Justine Zinkin, CEO of Neighborhood Trust Financial Partners, said the greater urgency in the digital time is finding ways to better include low-income people in the banking system, such as urging banks to offer no-fee starter accounts and encouraging banks to open branches in underserved areas.
12. What trouble was Hembert Figueroa faced with at Dos Toros Taqueria
A. He couldn’t make a deal with cash.
B. He failed to find a cashier for help.
C. He took no money or a card with him.
D. He was caught carrying false bank notes.
13. What does the underlined word “backlash” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Heated debate. B. Warm welcome.
C. Strong disagreement. D. High expectation.
14. What did Justine Zinkin suggest according to the text
A. Making regulations to ban cashless stores.
B. Raising the buying power of low-income people.
C. Finding ways for banks to adapt with the digital time.
D. Making banks more accessible to low-income people.
15 What’s the best title of this passage
A. Cashless stores—a production of new technology
B. Should cashless stores be banned
C. Cashless stores, a new form of transaction
D. Are cashless stores preferred by low-income people
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. D 15. B

【分析】这是一篇议论文。本文从一个拿现金在无现金店买不到汉堡的故事引出论题:无现金商店该不该禁止?并多方论证。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段第一句“until a cashier helped him find another customer willing to pay for his meal with a card in exchange for cash.”可知收银员给他找了一个顾客用卡代替现金支付了他的套餐,即他不能用现金付餐费。故选A。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“Cash-free stores are causing a backlash among some activists who say the practice looks down upon people like Figueroa, who either lack bank accounts or rely on cash for many transactions(交易).”
最后一段最后一句“…the greater urgency in the digital time is finding ways to better include low-income people in the banking system”,可知他指出在数字化时代急需做的事是更好的把低收入群体纳入到银行系统。可推测出,他的建议是让这些低收入者也能使用银行账户。选项D的“Making banks more accessible to low-income people.”“使低收入群体更好的进入银行系统。”故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Just wanting a hamburger, Hembert Figueroa was surprised to learn the dollar bills in his pocket were no good”可知想要一个汉堡的Figueroa很惊讶的发现口袋里的钱不太好用。

Jack went to the swimming pool quite early this morning. He was hoping that there would be another swimmer, but not his tiresome neighbor Mrs. Wilson, who was not popular among teenagers like him. However, when he got to the pool, Mrs. Wilson was the only swimmer there, floating on her back in the deep end.
He waved at her half-heartedly before diving in and doing a few freestyle laps. When he stopped, Mrs. Wilson said, “Great job if you were doing the breaststroke (蛙泳). You have to keep your hands cupped the whole time for the freestyle stroke. And you’re not dropping your head enough to breathe properly. You should see how my grandson Little Tommy swims…”
“Grrr…!” Jack thought. He dived underwater and swam away. After a few strokes, just out of curiosity, he cupped his hands the way Mrs. Wilson had advised. His stroke did seem smoother. He tried lowering his head a bit, which seemed to make him faster.
He swam to the shallow end of the pool. Maybe having Mrs. Wilson around wasn’t so bad. He wondered how she knew so much about swimming techniques. He glanced at where she’d been floating but she was no longer there. Suddenly he noticed a large, bright mass on the bottom of the pool. He stared at it. Not it—her—Mrs. Wilson. She wasn’t moving! “Oh no!” Jack cried. Mrs. Wilson looked like she was unconscious…or dead!
“Help! Help! A drowning woman!” Jack yelled. He didn’t know whether anyone heard him. It was only a few minutes past six o'clock. Nobody seemed to be awake or outside.
He’d have to rescue Mrs. Wilson himself. Luckily, he’d learned a little about first aid and CPR (心肺复苏术) from a class in Oklahoma. He dived under the water and swam toward her as fast as he could. But when he got closer to her still body, he wasn’t sure what to do. Mrs. Wilson was so large. How could he possibly lift her Jack wrapped one arm around her neck, paddling up through the water and kicking with all his strength to the top.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just then he spotted a man in a business suit passing by.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mrs. Wilson lay still, and Jack kept pressing.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Just then he spotted a man in a business suit passing by. “Help!” Jack shouted loudly, waving his hand crazily in the air. The man spotted him and ran over, then quickly bent down by the edge of the pool and put his hands under Mrs. Wilson’s shoulders. As Jack pushed her body forward, the man dragged her out. “She’s not breathing!” Jack cried. They lay Mrs. Wilson on her back and Jack started pounding on Mrs. Wilson’s chest, trying to imitate the CPR motions he’d seen in his first aid class.
Mrs. Wilson lay still, and Jack kept pressing. Suddenly water gushed from Mrs. Wilson’s mouth. She was breathing! Jack let out a deep, thankful breath. Being told how she was rescued, Mrs. Wilson thanked them but complained in a weak voice, “Jack pushed too hard. I’m sure he gave me bruises!” Jack grinned. Mrs. Wilson was definitely back to her old self. “The world needs more young people like you,” the man shook Jack’s hand, “That was very impressive.” Jack laughed. “I’m not sure Mrs. Wilson was very impressed! But I’m glad she’s okay.”

Iran’s Lake Urmia was once the second-largest saltwater lake in the world, covering more than 2,000 square miles at its deepest in the 1990s.
B. Hopeful. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.
D
A Heated debate. B. Warm welcome.
C. Strong disagreement. D. High expectation.
14. What did Justine Zinkin suggest according to the text
A. Making regulations to ban cashless stores.
B. Raising the buying power of low-income people.
C Finding ways for banks to adapt with the digital time.
D. Making banks more accessible to low-income people.
15. What’s the best title of this passage
A. Cashless stores—a production of new technology
B. Should cashless stores be banned
C. Cashless stores, a new form of transaction
D. Are cashless stores preferred by low-income people

He glanced at where she’d been floating, but she was no longer there.
