This story is adapted from a story in the collection “Mom’s Bank Account” by American writer Katherine Forbes. The author recalls the life of an ordinary American family from the perspective of a child. At that time, the family lived in extreme poverty, and in order to bring peace of mind to the family, the mother used her intelligence to weave a beautiful lie, claiming to have a savings account in a big bank in the city. However, she encouraged the family to find ways to solve their problems rather than relying on the bank. Many years later, the mother explained the reason for inventing the existence of the bank account - to provide a sense of security for the family, especially the children.
