一、Analysis of material
The material come from Book1 Unit5, whose thematic content is human and nature--the relationship between human and animal. My lesson is the first period of the unit, and it introduce the migration of the monarch butterfly. The text is an expository article. There are five paragraphs, which can be divided into 3 parts: Part1(para1-2) research background, Part2(para3-4) research finding, Part3(para5) research significance. The text aims to help Ss to know the migration of the monarch butterfly, the influence of human activities and the solution to monarch’s survival. After that, Ss can form the concept of sustainable development and human can live harmony with animals.
二、Analysis of students
My Ss come from senior 1, so they study in high spirits. They have accumulated some useful works and expressions, so they can understand the detail information about the migration of the monarch. Besides, they are interested in animals. However, My Ss are shy to express their opinion confidently. They are short of the ability of critical thinking and logical thinking. What’s more, they are unfamiliar with the monarch.
三、Teaching objectives
Linguistic ability: Extract and sort out the information of the migration of monarch, the influence of human activity and the solution to monarch’s survival. Learning ability:Work out a report to show the migration of Asian elephant in Yunnan. Thinking quality: Draw a flow chart to show the migration of monarch and the reason why the monarch’s population decrease. Cultural awareness: Raise their awareness of sustainable development and human can live harmony with animals.
四、Teaching focus and difficulty.
Focus: how to extract and sort out the information of the migration of monarch, the influence of human activity and the solution to monarch’s survival. Difficulty: how to work out a report to show the migration of Asian elephant in Yunnan.

Stages Activities Purposes
Lead-in(3mins) T shows a video to Ss and asks them questions. Q: What are the butterflies doing Do you know what butterfly it is To lead in the the topic and arouse Ss interest.
Prediction (2mins) T guides Ss to make a prediction of the text based on the title and picture. Q: What might the text mainly talk about Where does monarch’s journey begin and end To form expectation of the text.
While- reading(20mins) Activity1 read for structure T guide Ss to read the text quickly, divide the text into three parts and get the main idea of each part. Part1 (para1-2):__________________ Part2(para3-4):__________________ Part3(para5): ____________________ Activity2 read for background T asks Ss to read Part2 and find out the purpose of monarch’s journey, when the journey begin and where monarch travel to purpose when Where Activity3 read for the reason Ask Ss to read para4 and draw a flow chart to show why the number of monarch is falling.
Activity 4 read and think T asks Ss to read Part3 and answer the following question. Q: what’s the significance of the finding To get the structure and main idea of the text To get the background information of monarch’s journey.
