Stephen Ritz was teaching at a school in the Bronx, New York, USA. Somebody had sent him a box of flower bulbs (鳞茎). He didn't really know what they were, so he put them in a corner of his classroom. Then one morning, he and his students were surprised and excited to see beautiful flowers in the corner.
That gave Stephen an idea. He and his students worked on a project in their own neighborhood. They planted flowers and vegetables everywhere they could. The students even created an “edible (可以吃的) indoor wall” in the science room.
Although all students under 16 must attend school, in the Bronx students often miss classes. But thanks to his project, attendance (出席人数) in Stephen's classes went up from around 40% to 93%. The students felt responsible (有责任心的) for their plants. They knew that they had to look after them every day, so they didn't miss school.
The students also began to learn about natural, healthy food. As they started to grow their own vegetables, they became more interested in eating a healthy diet instead of eating fast food. In fact, the “edible indoor wall” produced enough food to feed healthy meals to hundreds of students!
Many of Stephen's students had special educational needs or were homeless. Stephen's project really influenced them. They learned that you don't have to be a farmer out in the country to grow plants. Anybody can do it. They also learned some lessons that would help them throughout their lives.

The British are known to be great sports lovers. When they are neither playing nor watching games, they like to talk about them. Many of the games we play now come from Britain.
