We try to bring you all the information you require when travelling to Etosha National Park of just finding out more about this fascinating park. It is important when visiting a park as unique as Etosha to respect the environment and the heritage associated with it. Below is some of the most important information to keep in mind to ensure that you have a safe trip or if you would like to learn more about the park.
Etosha Pan
The Etosha pan is undoubtedly, enormous. It is the most distinctive(独特的)feature of the park and can even be seen from space. It is believed that it was formed over 100 million years ago and is 130km's long and up to 50km's wide in certain places. This means that the pan covers almost a quarter of the entire park!
Waterholes
Waterholes are usually a redeeming feature in any major national park and Etosha is no different. They are a great place to silently observe animals and see them in their natural environment, away from noisy mechanical beasts that we often view wildlife from. Each waterhole in Etosha is different and animals spotted at each vary from season to season. The main waterholes in Etosha include Okaukuejo, Okondeka. Halali and Goas and Sueda and Salvadora.
Seasons
Dependent on what type of game viewing you wish to do, different seasons within the year will suit your trip better. The winter is a dry season and is great time to spot wildlife at the waterholes. During summer the vegetation is lush(郁郁葱葱)due to the heavy rainfall which makes game-viewing difficult. However this season is great for bird-lovers.
Park History
The Etosha Pan and the area that would later come to be known as Etosha National Park was first discovered by Europeans in 1851, when explorers Charles Andersson and Francis Galton came to the wild region in the company of Ovambo traders. Etosha can be loosely translated as "Great White Place" in the Ovambo language.
21. If you want to watch birds, when should you visit Etosha National Park
A. Spring. B. Summer. C. Autumn D. Winter
22. From the passage we can learn that_____________.
A. Etosha Pan covers the most part of the park.
B. In Okondeka, visitors can play with the wildlife.
C. Etosha National Park was formed over 100 million years ago.
D. Some Ovambo traders contributed to the name of the park.
23. The passage may be taken from_____________.
A. The advertising section of a newspaper B. A geographical journal
C. The official website of the park D. The lines of a TV programme
B
"When an animal keep their ears open and stares at you, it's showing alarm. There' s stress going on. You're too close for its comfort," says Greg Kurz, a wildlife biologist at Yellowstone National Park. An animal that' s alarmed is not relaxed and is suddenly alert. If it's feeding, it'll quickly stop. If it' s walking, it may change direction. If standing, it may move away or suddenly turn to face you. Animals that feel they' re being hunted will back up, keeping as much distance as possible between you.
Some animals have unique ways of expressing alarm. A beaver(河狸)hits its tail on the water. A pronghorn antelope flares the hair on its rump(臀部). A deer "lags" its white tail over its back as it races to safer ground. An opossum(负鼠)plays dead by going limp, closing its eyes, and dropping its tongue.
"Skunks and rabbits beat their feet on the ground when they're alarmed." says Vince Yannone, an independent wildlife consultant who has more than 30 years of experience with animals in the wild. "And if you frighten a coyote(丛林狼), the hair on its back goes up. It gets stiff-legged and flattens its ears.”
Some alarmed ducks and other birds, such as the killdeer, will pretend broken wings and flap across the water or flutter across the ground in an attempt to draw you from nearby nests where eggs or hatchlings are hidden.
In short, an alarmed animal is issuing warnings, either to you or its partners. When you see these signs, back off. An alarmed animal is under stress and may become dangerous or flee habitat critical to its survival.(Hikers persistently approaching bighorn sheep in California's Santa Rosa Mountains eventually drove the animals from an important watering hole. )Alarmed animals also expend extra energy, and may even desert their young.
24. The word "alert" in the first paragraph means_____________
A. secure B. abnormal C. watchful D. scared
25. How did the writer develop the passage
A. By reasoning B. By giving examples.
C. By contrasting D. By making up stories.
26. Which of the following is right according to the passage
A. A frightened coyote will make its ears flat.
B. An opossum beats its tail on the water to express alarm.
C. A beaver can pretend to be dead when frightened.
D. Some alarmed animals may kill their young
27. Which of the follow is the structure of the passage

Until now, robots have carried their pretty weak brains inside them. They've received instructions-such as take this, or carry that-and done it. Not only that, but they've worked in environments such as factories and warehouses specially designed or adapted for them.
Cloud robotics promises something entirely new: robots with super-brains stored in the online cloud. The thinking is that these robots, with their intellectual impact, will be more flexible in the jobs they do and the places they can work, perhaps even speeding up their arrival in our homes.
Google Cloud and Amazon Cloud both have robot brains that are learning and growing inside them. The dream behind cloud robotics is to create robots that can see, hear, understand natural language and the world around them.
The Fetch Cloud Robotics Platform is a cloud-driven Autonomous Mobile Robot(AMR)solution that addresses material handling and data collection for warehouses.
One of the leading players in cloud robotics research is Robot Brain, a project led by researchers at Stanford and Cornell universities in the US. Funded by Google, Microsoft government institutions and universities, the team are building a robot brain on the Amazon cloud, learning how to integrate different software systems and different sources of data.
Another one to watch is the Everyday Robot Project, by X, the 'moonshot factory' at Alphabet, Google's parent company. The project aims to develop robots intelligent enough to make sense of the places we live and work. They're making headway too-testing cloud robots in Alphabet offices in Northern California. So far, the tasks are simple, such as sorting the recycling(pretty slowly says X), but it's the shape of robots to come.
28. What's the difference between common robots and cloud robotics
A. They can do entirely different jobs.
B. They are controlled by different instructions.
C. Cloud robotics have larger brain than common robots.
D. Cloud robotics can "think" of themselves while common robots can't
29. What's the author' s attitude towards cloud robotics
A. Appreciative B. Negative C. Indifferent D. Disagreeable
30. Which of the following is right according to the passage
A. Nowadays, robots can work everywhere.
B. Cloud robotics promises to help people in families.
C. Robot Brain got money from Google, Microsoft and X.
D. Robots by Google Cloud and Amazon Cloud can do the same things,
31. What's the best title for the passage
A. Future is Coming. B. Robots: Human Being's Assistants.
C. Cloud Robotics: the Robots' Future. D. Cloud Robotics: the Key of AI
D
A French cook is preparing foods with something surprising: insects. The European Union has recently approved some sorts of insects as an acceptable food product. Insects provide many nutrients and are an environmentally friendly food
The food Laurent Veyet prepares is not for those with little bravery. However, what he is preparing may point to the future of feeding a growing world population. One of his foods is a prawn(对虾)salad with yellow mealworms(黄粉虫). It includes insects on a bed of vegetables with grasshoppers(蚂蚱)covered in chocolate, a food usually meant for sweets. The restaurant is located in Paris among others with outdoor seating and plenty of sunlight. Eaters who are ready to try something different approve of Veyet's complex foods.
The Parisian cook talked about the perfect meal for first-timers. He was preparing a pasta(意大利面食)made with crushed mealworms, sweet potatoes and young insects cooked on the stove. He said, "There are some really interesting flavors. Not many people could say they don't like that."
Mealworms, and insects more generally, could provide a sustainable food source that produces low greenhouse gases for the future.
Soheil Ayari was eating with his two daughters. He approved of the food. He said, "I feel like I am in a traditional restaurant. Only the idea behind was different, and honestly, the tastes are very similar to traditional food."
Veyet grows his mealworms on site. He feeds them cooked grains and vegetables. While the mealworm may not look like something worth eating, it is in fact the young period of the darkling beetle(黑甲虫). These beetles are rich in protein, fat and other nutrients. The mealworm can be used in many different meals. It can be cooked whole and eaten, or it can be ground to help make foods like bread.
32. Why did the EU approve the insect food
A. Because it is an acceptable food for all.
B. Because it is not poisonous.
C. Because it has some advantages.
D. Because it can be available easily
33. What can we infer from paragraph 2
A. All eaters welcome the insect foods.
B. Insect foods have come into people' s kitchen.
C. Insects feeding will interest many people
D. Insect foods may support more people on the earth.
34. Why is Soheil Ayari mentioned in the passage
A. To show the insect food is acceptable.
B. To show he likes the insect food.
C. To show insect food is better than traditional food.
D. To compare the insect food restaurant with the traditional ones
35. What is the purpose of writing the passage
A. To discuss methods of cooking insect food.
B. To introduce a kind of food-insect food.
C. To stress the advantages of insect food
D. To appeal for acceptance of insect food.

It has been suggested that body language consists more than 60% of what we communicate. 36 . Below are tips to help you learn how to read body language and better understand the people you interact with.
Study the Eyes
37 . When communicating with someone, pay attention to whether he or she makes direct eye contact or looks away. Inability to make direct eve contact can indicate boredom, disinterest, or even deceit-especially when someone looks away and to the side. If a person looks down, on the other hand, it often indicates nervousness or submissiveness. A person' s blinking rate can also speak volumes about what is going on internally. 38 . In some cases, increased blinking rate indicates lying-especially when accompanied by touching the face(particularly the mouth and eyes).
Gaze at the Face-Body Language Touching Mouth or Smiling
Although people are more likely to control their facial expression, you can still pick up on important nonverbal cues if you pay close attention. 39 . There are different types of smiles, including genuine smiles and fake smiles. A genuine smile engages the whole face, whereas a fake smile only uses the mouth.
Pay attention to proximity
Proximity is the distance between you and the other person. 40 . Standing or sitting in close proximity to someone is perhaps one of the best indicators of rapport(融洽). On the other hand, if someone backs up or moves away when you move in closer, this could be a sign that the connection is not mutual.
A. Eye behavior can be very telling.
B. Smiling is an important nonverbal cue to watch for.
C. Everybody will smile when they feel happy at any time.
D. So learning to read the nonverbal cues people send is a valuable skill.
E. Blinking rate increases when people are thinking more or are stressed

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Silverton, Oregon, is a small, rural farming community south of Portland. It is located at the base of Silver Falls State Park, which boasts ten waterfalls and is a an attraction for outdoor enthusiasts.
It's a friendly, tri-cultural town, and I worked there as an English Language Learners teacher for girls who grew up speaking Russian or Spanish.
One day, I asked the girls what careers they were interested in. Across the board, the same answer was either wife/mother or hairdresser. I was confused. These were bright girls with so much to offer—such promise and untapped potential. And yet, they saw only two paths in their futures.
These girls needed role models. They needed exposure to the working world so they could make informed decisions.
It was a dilemma. How could I help them What resources were available
I searched the Internet, and I found a gender(性别)equality grant through the state and applied. Much to my delight, we were selected. Together with two very qualified educational assistants, we started planning. We needed to enlist the help of successful working women. I wanted to arrange field trips to their workplaces, but I was stopped. The conservative parents would not allow their girls to travel.
I was not going to be derailed, so I started making phone calls and inviting presenters to come to our school. To my surprise, many of them agreed to make the trip. The girls listened attentively to their presentations and responded with reflective, in-depth questions.
The school year passed quickly. When our final presenter had left, I posed the same question to the girls. "What careers are you interested in " This time, the responses were very different: social workers, accountants, educational professionals, bookkeepers, nurses, managers. The results surpassed our expectations.
When our grant finished at the end of the year, the students, assistants and I were sad to see the program end. We were seeing phenomenal results and receiving very positive feedback from parents and the school district.
Paragraph 1:
Then one day, as I was sitting at my desk pondering our situation, I received a call from an educational research program in Portland. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paragraph 2:
When I think back. I feel proud of having influenced positive changes in the girls' aspirations.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
One possible version:
Then one day, as I was sitting at my desk pondering our situation, I received a call from an educational research program in Portland. “We have heard about your successful project and would like to offer to fund your program for this coming year.” I was very happy. Our funding doubled. All the program asked was that we use some of their curriculum and allow them to conduct statistical analyses of pre-and-post outcomes. We agreed. The second year was even more rewarding than the first, for now we had a network of resources.
When I think back, I feel proud of having influenced positive changes in the girls' aspirations. It was an honor being a role model, mentoring the girls, making a real difference in their lives, empowering them to succeed, and educating them about future career options. Our achievements put a lasting smile on their faces, and having made them clear: If you don't get out of the box you've been raised in, you won't understand how much bigger the world is.
