Unit 3 The World Meets China Using language 《Grammar: Subjunctive Mood in If Conditionals》教学设计 高二下学期英语外研版(2019)选择性必修第四册
Analysis of Material: Subjunctive mood in if conditionals is the grammar that occasionally appears in reading materials of English tests. It sometimes will block the understanding of whole passage if students don’t have a good command of this knowledge. In writing, the use of subjunctive mood in if conditionals will also make our article more living.
Analysis of Students: Students in their senior two actually have a basic understanding on if conditionals and the subjunctive mood. They know we use subjunctive mood when we want to politely say something tough, like object clauses in “request”, “command”. they don’t know the second usage of subjunctive mood, that is, subjunctive mood in if conditionals. Under this condition, we need to change its tense.
Learning objectives:
Students are able to identify subjunctive mood in if conditionals;
Students are able to use subjunctive mood in if conditionals to describe themselves lively;
Students will cherish what they have now.
Key Points of Teaching: the conditions under which we need to use subjunctive mood in if conditions; the relative tense we need to change according to the time we describe: we describe imaginary wish for now, if-clause: past tense, main clause: would/could/might/should do; we describe imaginary wish for past, if-clause: past participle, main clause: could/ would/ might/ should have done; we describe imaginary wish for future, if-clause: should do/ were to do/ were, main clause: would/could/might/should do.

If Wukong had not made a bet with Buddha, he would not have been trapped under the Mountain.
(Ask students to compare the two sentences and find its difference)

(Observe the tense of this sentence.)
