课题 Starting out & Understanding Ideas:
课标理念 本单元属于人与自然的主题语境下关于人与自我的探讨，关于讨论探险家的探险天性、探险意义和探险精神。本课以学习理解、应用实践、合作探究、迁移创新等方式来发展学生听、说、读、写的综合技能。
内容分析 Starting out第一部分：通过讲解七大洲四大洋的相关知识，帮助学生激活与本主题相关的信息。第二部分：通过阅读三位著名的探险家的基本信息和其航海路线图，进行三位冒险家的基础知识的讲解，激活学生的兴趣，了解探险的不易和其探险精神。 Understanding ideas语篇类型是夹叙夹议的论说文。作者列举了两位攀登者对攀登珠峰的个人看法以及探险家冒险背后的科学原因，探讨了探险家的探险天性和探险的意义并深入了解探险精神。
教学目标 提取语篇大意，归纳和总结文中攀登珠峰的风险和人们攀登珠峰的主客观原因。 比较攀登珠峰带来的风险和益处，能够形成自己的观点并发表看法。 推断、总结探险家的优秀品质，探讨探险的意义，学习其探险精神并能联系实际生活和学习。
教学重点 学生通过自主阅读和小组合作学习理解语篇主旨和作者写作目的； 理解语篇表达的主要观点，能够基于语篇内容形成自己的观点并发表看法。
教学难点 引导学生探讨探险的意义并发表自己的看法。 引导学生提炼出探险家的优秀品格，学习其探险精神并能联系实际生活和学习。

Step-1 Lead-in Ask Ss two questions: 1)How many continents and oceans are there in the world 2)What are they Look at the map,and read the information about the three explorers. Match the routes to the explorers. Look at the chart,and learn the details of the discovery of the three explorers. 通过提出七大洲四大洋，激发学生学习动机。通过信息匹配，创设情境，引出主题，帮助学生激活与本主题相关的信息。同时了解探险的困难和探险家的品质，为后续阅读做准备。
Step-2 Pre- reading Look at the map and answer the questions. What is the attitude of Qomolangma How many camps are there Why What’s the death zone Who were the first climbers confirmed to have reached the top 通过图片帮助学生了解珠峰的基本信息和攀登珠峰的艰难，引出对“攀登珠峰是否值得冒险”这一话题的讨论，进行阅读前的准备。
Step-3 While- reading Skimming:Read the passage quickly and finish the matching about main ideas and answer the task three on the book. 通过快速阅读文章，总结每一部分的主旨大意并理解作者的写作态度。

Step-5 Post- reading Debate： Taking risks,is it worth Some hints will be given： Enjoy life、look deep inside、physical and mental toughness、become sick 、lose their lives 通过辩论使学生的思维发散，可以运用今天学习的相关知识进行表达，锻炼表达能力。
Step-6 Homework Learn more about the stories of adventurers on the Internet and feel the spirit of adventure.
