Mo Yan is a famous writer in China.

He was born on February 17, 1955 in Shandong Province. Mo Yan lived a very hard life when he was a child. He left school and worked in the countryside for about 10 years. However, he never gave up reading. In 1976, he joined the army and began to write.

In 1986, his novel Red Sorghum became popular. There is also a movie about the story. His other works include The Garlic Ballads, Frog, Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out and so on. In 2012, Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature. That made him famous all over the world.

　One day, a little horse went out to help his mother do something. On his way, there was a river. He didn’t know what to do. He asked a cow and the cow told him the river was shallow. However, a squirrel told him that the river was very deep and that it was dangerous to cross the river.
