Paragraph 1
A few years later, Clinton made some changes in his house. He spotted the gold coin, buried in dirt under the wood floor in the dining room.Clinton immediately realized that Barton was innocent. Hurrying to Barton's humble home, he told him of the amazing discovery of the coin and apologized to him sincerely for having suspected him. “But,”he asked with confusion, “you knew that the gold piece was not on your person, but why did you refuse to be searched then ”
Paragraph 2
Barton looked at Clinton blankly(茫然地) . The man who was shabby, old before his time, said brokenly, “Because my pockets were filled with something disgraceful”. Embarrassed, he continued, “For weeks my family and I hadn't had enough to eat. My pockets were full of food that l had taken from the table to carry home to my wife and hungry children. Words failed Clinton, holding his friend’s hands firmly. In the toughest and darkest time, dignity and honesty might be the only possession for those little people.
