教学实施过程:(一)学习理解
1. Have students answer the two questions on page 2 before reading the lecture
transcript.
● The screenplay, directing, acting, lighting, music, dubbing and
recording, special effects, editing, etc.
● I think the music is the most important element. It can tell us how the
people in the film feel and create a certain kind of atmosphere. The film would
be boring without it.
2. Have students read the lecture transcript and finish A1 on page 4.
(1) Sound effects;(2) Visual special effects;(3) Props
(4) Think of and appreciate the work done behind the scenes.
3. Have students finish A2 on page 4.
(1) The sounds of a baby elephant, a tiger and other animals were mixed by
a computer to make a dinosaur roar in Jurassic Park. The sound of the doors
opening was made by pulling a sheet of paper out of an envelope in the Star
Trek films.
(2) Scenes requiring CGI are filmed in front of a green screen. 批 注
(3) The director of The Lord ofthe Rings films used clever camera angles to
make characters seem bigger or smaller than they really were.
(4) Director James Cameron spent six months looking at and revising plans of
the Titanic in order to build a full-sized model for his 1997 film. It took
500 workers 100 days to build the fine model.
4. Have students answer questions 1 and 2 in A3 on page 4.
(1)To attract the audience’s attention, to make the audience think and to
connect the lecture’s topic with their background knowledge.
(2) Film-making involves a lot of hard work behind the scenes.
5. Have students answer the following questions.
(1) What does the sentence “... there’s always a lot more to it than first
meets the eye.” (page 2, line 3) mean
Apart from the acting, the music and the amazing sets, there is a lot more
hard work behind the scenes.
(2) Two directors, Peter Jackson and James Cameron, are mentioned as examples
in the lecture. What qualities do you think a good director should have Why
do you think so
From the two directors mentioned in the lecture, I can see that to be a good
director, one has to be creative. Take Peter Jackson for example, he was creative
enough to come up with new ways of shooting special effects. Secondly, to be
a good director, one has to be dedicated. James Cameron spent a lot of time
researching the real Titanic in order to get its precise measurements and other
important details before building the model that was used in his film.
