Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher I do, mine. Her name was Mrs. White. And I remember thinking she must be some older relation of Walt Disney’s Snow White, because she had the same bright blue eyes, short dark hair, red lips and fair skin.
I don’t remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. English is full of funny expressions that aren’t always understood easily. Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals.
When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”.
To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time.
Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use “dog” in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are “as sick as a dog”, you’re really, really sick.
Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, “I told you to keep that secret, but you have just‘let the cat out of the bag’!” You probably guessed it—that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously(先前) unknown.

Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine.The new study was carried out by researchers from the University of British Colombia.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018.The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school， including how much time they spent watching TV，Netflix or something else.Then，students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programs.After that ， researchers asked students to describe their state of mind.For example, when given a statement such as "I start most days thinking that I will have a good day", they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale.

As a high school student, I consider English a very important subject. In order to learn it well, apart from English class, I took an active part in English corner and other after-class English activities, which benefit me a lot.
In English corner, I meet many friends, who share the same interest with me. Besides, sometimes, some foreigners are glad to join us. By talking with them, my oral English improved a lot. I also find it useful to keep English diaries. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. Only by practicing will we make more progress.
