lesson 3 a musical genius
Unit 7 art lesson 3 musical genius
Ludwig van Beethoven is known as a musical genius, but perhaps few people know the creation process of Symphony No. 9 in D minor and the story of its first performance.
Ludwig van Beethoven is a German composer. He is regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of music. In his twenties, he was famous for his excellent piano skills, but later he began to lose his hearing. Beethoven wanted to give up, but in the end he continued to create music. Inspired by his fight against deafness, the composer created some amazing works, including nine symphonies, five piano pieces and an opera! It was not until his death in 1827 that Beethoven stopped writing. He composed more than 130 pieces of music, including Symphony No. 9 in D minor.
One day in February 1824, in a small house in Vienna, Austria, Ludwig van Beethoven sat up in a chair and laughed. The Ninth Symphony of the famous German composer was finally completed. It took him several years to write the symphony, and now the last note in the score is finally finished. Beethoven, 54, didn't know it would be his last symphony. He proudly put his name at the bottom of the page and tried to imagine how people would react when they first heard it.
Before the performance, in a very famous theater in Vienna, the backstage atmosphere was very tense. Beethoven worried that the performance would be a disaster. After all, what's the use of an orchestra conductor who can't hear himself, even if he's a musical genius
When the famous composer first stepped onto the stage in 12 years, the audience did not hesitate to clap. Michael Umlauf, the music director of the theatre, also came on stage to conduct the band with him. For more than an hour, Beethoven was dancing in front of the band, waving his arms in the air and flipping the score wildly. And omrov has been standing quietly beside him, skillfully conducting the orchestra to play the most amazing music in the world.
At last, the symphony ended in a joyful note. The audience jumped up, clapped, cheered and waved their hats. But Beethoven's head is still buried in the score to continue the command. It wasn't until singer Caroline Unger took his arm and turned to the audience that the great man realized the success of his symphony.
Later, Caroline recalled that not only Beethoven was surprised, "the audience was shocked too," she said with a brilliant smile. "Most of the audience didn't know he was deaf! The only person in the theatre who has not heard and will never hear the symphony is the creator. "(共22张PPT)
