“Listen!” Mr. Lee said seriously at the beginning of his first class. “I will put a lie into each of my classes. Your job is to try and catch me in the Lie of the Day.”
That was really a clever way to fix our attention on the dry and boring subject— geography. Then in the following weeks, we didn’t let off every single word of what he was saying in class and challenged (质疑) his lectures. When his class ended with nobody seeing through the lie, Mr. Lee would say, “Ahha. Each of you has a lie in your notes. Discuss among yourselves what it might be and I will tell you at the end of this term.”
Mr. Lee’s special style of teaching worked. All of us reviewed and discussed about our notes actively.
One Monday at the end of the term, Mr. Lee listened carefully to what we were questioning for almost ten minutes. Then he finally said. “Do you still remember the first lesson how I said that every lecture has a lie ”
“Well, that was a real big lie. In fact, all the lectures I’ve given before are completely true. But I am glad you worked so hard. Move on.”
Hearing this, all eyes in the classroom went wide.
While my knowledge of geography has been forgotten over time, the lessons have stayed with me. “Experts” can be wrong and say things that sound right, so build a habit of evaluating (评估) new information and check it against things you already accept as a fact.
24. We can know that Mr. Lee was ________.
A. serious B. wise C. boring D. confusing
25. In Mr. Lee’s class, ________.
A. he always told lies
B. the students always questioned him
C. everyone had to write down all of his words
D. it was difficult for the students to see through the lie
26. From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. Mr. Lee was an expert
B. Mr. Lee succeeded drawing the students’ attention
C. it’s easy to forget the knowledge of geography
D. the students would never check what the teachers said again
27. The best title of the passage could be ________.
A. Learn to Question B. A Special Teaching Style
C. A Real Lie D. The First Geography Lesson
C
Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game. Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test— unless the person cheats again.
Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.
Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.
If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.
A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.
28. The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, ________.
A. it does harm to their health B. it is unfair to other people
C. teachers should punish them D. teachers shouldn’t stop them at once
29. The third paragraph mainly tells us ________.
A. cheating isn’t a good idea B. some kids can’t pass the test without cheating
C. why kids cheat in the test D. some kids don’t spend the time studying
30. We can learn from the passage ________.
A. cheaters are often thought highly of
B. parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble
C. kids cheat in the test because of swim practice
D. people show no respect for those who cheat
31. In the passage those cheaters are advised to ________.
A. find good solutions instead of cheating B. spend more time on school than on sports
C. try hard to be intelligent rather than lazy D. ask their classmates for good methods of study
D
Modern science suggests that a healthy lifestyle matters much to how long you can live and how well you live. Here are some tips for you to form a healthy lifestyle.
Keep a scientific diet. Keep in mind that sugar can be removed from our diet completely. Over intake of sugar is one of the main reasons for getting fat. Over intake of protein (蛋白质) or fat and low intake of fiber (纤维) can also lead to getting fat. We only need a few grams of protein every day to keep our body in order. Like rain to crops, not the more the better.
Be always in a good mood. There is a relationship between the mood and health. A good mood keeps you in high spirits. Thanks to the Internet, we can enjoy and learn much without going out. Take a look at some online shops and pick up some bargains (廉价品) , enjoy music and movies and chat with good friends. Just keep happy.
Enough sleep. Two studies show the reasons why teens and adults don’t have enough sleep. With teens, a major reason is mobile phone use; with adults, it’s work. Meanwhile, a third study of young children shows that lack of sleep in early life may lead to serious problems in future. Everyone needs at least 8-hour sleep to recover from tiredness and the hurt caused by hard work in the daytime.
Proper exercise. Do exercise to keep away from fatness. Because of the quick pace of the modern life, you don’t have time to do exercise every day, but at least three times a week and 45 minutes each time.
32. The author wrote this passage to ________.
A. tell the readers how to take proper exercise every day
B. provide some advice on how to form a healthy lifestyle
C. ask people to care about their health rather than their work
D. make some surveys among those who have health problems
33. What does the underlined word “intake” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. 购买 B. 观察 C. 摄入 D. 拒绝
34. Which of the following can lead to getting fat according to the passage
A. Low intake of protein. B. Low intake of fat.
C. Over intake of fiber. D. Over intake of sugar.
35 The main reason why teenagers don’t have enough sleep is that they ________.
A. use mobile phones too much B. have too much homework
C. eat too much sugar every day D. don’t have enough exercise

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Hey, honey!” I said, hugging my seven-year-old, Jean Prince, as she got off the bus. “How was school ” I asked her as I always did.
“Well, not so real good,” she replied, looking sad. “Everyone has their pictures on the Reading Bulletin Board (布告栏) but me. I never get my picture up, not for math or reading or anything.” Her shoulders fell suddenly, and her chin began to shake clearly.
I’d like to believe that, with enough educational treatment, visits to the doctor, experimenting with different medicines for ADHD (多动症), and drill, practice, and patience at home, I can turn my Jean into a teacher’s “dream child,” the skilled and intelligent kid who gets everything right and never colors outside the lines.
But I can’t. And every failure is yet another blow to me, as well as to Jean. Taking a deep breath, I turned on the “building self-esteem (自尊)” mode. “Well, honey, I’m sorry. But I’ll bet something good happened to you today, didn’t it What was the best thing that you did today ” Jean took her own sweet time, thinking things through. To my relief, she wasn’t, however, on the edge of tears anymore.
Finally, she brightened a bit and said slowly, “Yes, when I passed the gate of the park, I saw a little girl who was walking with her mother and she fell down and cried because her knee bled, I hurried home and took my Barbie doll and gave it to her. She loved it and stopped crying, her mother said thanks to me and I felt good.”
“Sweetie, that’s great!” I said excitedly.
“It is you who have told me that I should be kind and learn to share good things with others,” Jean replied.
I learned that Jean had saved from her allowance (零花钱) for the past month to get that doll, which was her favorite, so I thought to myself, “I will tell all these to Mrs Doe, Jean’s teacher.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Later that night, after driving Jean home, I hurried to Mrs Doe’s.

【答案】 I’m glad to share a truly unforgettable travel experience that I had during my last summer holiday with you.
On July 7, my parents and I took a bus to Leshan, Sichuan Province, which is famous for its Buddha. The Buddha is really big and looking up at the large head and down at the large feet I felt I was so small. The next day, we climbed Mount Emei, where there are many old temples and wild monkeys.
The naughty monkeys were the most exciting things I experienced there. Towards evening we made our way back. We were all tired, but our trip to Leshan was really unforgettable.
This is what I want to share with you.

【答案】Later that night, after driving Jean home, I hurried to Mrs Doe’s. I took a deep breath and knocked at the door. When the door was open and came out Mrs Doe, I said nervously that I was sorry to disturb her, but I wanted to discuss with her something about my daughter. Without waiting for my finishing my words, Mrs Doe invited me in. I sat down and explained everything to her. She promised to praise Jean the next day, then we said goodbye.
At 4:30 the next afternoon, Jean rushed to me happily at the school gate. When she hugged me, I pretended to be confused, asking why she was so cheerful. “Guess what Mum,” Jean made a face. I shook my head, then she said that she saw her picture on the Reading Bulletin Board for her kindness and sharing good things with others. I patted Jean on the shoulder, saying that sharing is good and it is worth taking even a small action to show kindness.
