T: Can you name some festivals all over the world Ask students to brainstorm as many festivals as possible. Possible answers: the Spring Festivals, the Dragon-boat Festival, the Mid-autumn Day,Christmas, Thanks-giving Day... Brief Introduction of Festivals. Introduce the festivals by asking: When is it /How do you celebrate it /Can you tell me more about it Have a Guess. T: Can you guess what it is Possible answers: dumpling, mooncake, dragon boat... Brainstorm as many festivals as possible. Think about the questions and learn more about different festivals. Speak out the possible answers. 通过头脑风暴,回答相关问题和猜一猜等一系列活动,激活相关词汇的表达。Step 2: Warming up Look and Match. T: Observe the pictures and match them with the right festivals. Read and Write. The teacher leads the students to conclude the information of these four festivals. Possible answers: Picture 1: The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China and falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month in Chinese calendar every year. On that day, people watch dragon boat race and eat zongzi to honor Qu yuan. Picture2: The Mid-Autumn festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar when the moon is at its brightest and fullest. For Chinese people, the full moon is a symbol for family reunion. At the Mid-Autumn Festival, all the family members would get together to taste moon cakes and appreciate the round moon. Picture3: Thanksgiving Day is a day for people in the western countries to give thanks for what they have. It falls on the 4th Thursday in November in the USA. On that day, families and friends get together for a meal, which traditionally includes a roast turkey, potatoes, and pumpkin pie and so on. Picture4: The Water-Splashing Festival is an important festival of Dai minority, which is held from the 13th to 16th of the 4th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. During the festival, Dai people seek good luck by splashing water at one another, lighting lanterns on the river at night and washing Buddha with water. Observe the pictures and match. Use the information given and write down the important information about the festivals including it’s name, time, activities... 本环节通过图片匹配等活动,引出节日庆贺相关的词汇和句型,扫清听力词汇和句型障碍,为后续的听说活动做准备。Step 3: Listening Pre-listening Play a video about the Mid-autumn Festival. Explain some key words: lunar calendar 农历;symbol n.象征;reunion n.团聚; appreciate v.欣赏; get together 聚集,举行社交聚会… While-listening Listen and tick. Listen to the dialogue and ask students to figure out what they are talking about. Listen and complete. Ask students to quickly read through the brief introduction and make clear what information they are going to fill in. And then play the mp3. Listen and complete. Firstly, ask students to read the brief introduction and let them predict the possible answer And then, play the listening material and ask them to write down the important information. Post-listening Show students the listening script and check the answers. Then ask students to imitate the pronunciation and intonation of the script and read after it. Summarize the language points.
