An Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Paintings
Aiming to enrich students’ school life and stimulate interest in traditional culture, our school has decided to hold an exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings in our stadium.
As scheduled, the exhibition lasts 7 days, from March8 to 14, during which a wide variety of our students’ works about different subjects are on display. Frankly speaking, the moment I entered the hall, I was spellbound by their fantastic works. Furthermore, the professional narration enabled me to have a deep understanding of the Chinese paintings.
So meaningful and fascinating is the exhibition that I strongly recommend anyone who has a passion for traditional Chinese paintings should come to experience it in person.

Aiming to enrich students’ school life and stimulate interest in traditional culture, our school held an exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings yesterday.
As scheduled, the exhibition was held on October 6 in our school lecture hall, lasting for a week, during which a wide variety of our students’ exhibits(展品) were on display.
The exhibition provides us with a great opportunity to have a close contact with the authentic works, through which some of our interest in traditional Chinese painting will definitely be sparked. The big day came at last. I jogged all the way to the backstage area of the school hall. Cameras were lighting up in all directions. Looking back on the five months of practice, I seemed to have confidence in myself. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring and outgoing person who had been hidden all along. However, when I was about to go on stage, my heart was pounding hard, my throat tightened and my knees felt weak.
At that time, Mrs. Sally came backstage for her final check-up and noticed my nervousness. “It doesn’t matter how you do tonight,” she said. “You’ve already shown how wonderful you are.” Looking into Mrs. Sally’s shining blue eyes, I calmed down and then walked onto the stage with her warm words inside me like a ray of sunshine. When I finished my performance, the audience burst into applause. The scene made me feel like I was floating in an ocean of happiness. Over the last year, opportunities for visits to historical sites have picked up again,and photography offers a wonderful way to experience the sights of archaeology(考古学) around the world. After a long day at the office, Jane Hodgson was on her way home and looking forward to relaxing with a nice cup of tea. While driving, she noticed that there was a car pulled over at the side of the road and a crowd had started to gather around someone who was lying on the ground.
Jane, who had completed first aid at the work course with the British Red Cross, pulled over to see if she could do something and it turned out to be lucky for the victim.
Describing the scene she saw, Jane says, “A crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene. A couple of young men were cream-faced and looking lost. They were completely terrified. When I walked up, first-aid kit in hand, they said, ‘You’re a first aider — Oh thank goodness.’ They were so shocked that they hadn’t even thought to call an ambulance yet.”
A young girl called Jenny was lying there. It turned out that the teen had been hit by a car and gone over the handlebars of her bike, landing on her head and shoulder.
“I was worried because she had not been wearing a helmet when she got knocked down, and I thought that she should not be moved as I couldn’t be sure about a spinal (脊柱) injury, but after looking her over, in relief, I felt fairly confident that she had escaped relatively unharmed. Even so, as time passed and we continued to wait for an ambulance, the amount of pain the girl was in was increasing. To avoid the risk of her going into shock I kept her talking. We chatted about her boyfriend and anything I could think of to keep her mind off the pain. She squeezed (捏) my hand when the pain got too much and this helped,” describes Jane.
Thinking back, Jane says, “I never did find out what happened to the girl. Apart from the boyfriend I wasn’t thanked by anyone else, but that’s OK. For me, knowing that in a small way I helped that girl through what was a frightening experience is all the reward I need. It felt great to know I’d made a difference.”

Life is hard-even harder than anyone thought it would be. When you were younger, you dreamed of the world being your playground, and you were told that you could do anything and be anyone you wanted. Somehow, though, things haven’t been the smooth sailing that you wanted them to be. The world seems to go against you, and the last thing you want to hear is “Cheer up!”
Still, there’s a couple of things you might not notice about your situation. Next time you’re down, maybe the following will provide motivation.
Firstly, not everything is bad. It’s a well-accepted fact that bad news makes for sensational (极好的) television ratings. The fact is that something negative catches a lot more attention than something positive, and that’s because it’s easy to see things in a negative light. However, that shouldn’t distract you from the bigger picture.
Resist the tunnel vision that results from constant negativity. Remember that even though there’s lots of really nasty stuff going on, you’re surrounded by some pretty awesome stuff as well.
You should also remember other people aren’t you. No one likes being compared to another person. What makes it even worse, if that’s even possible, is when you do it to
yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to another person and you’ll realize that you’re much more awesome than you give yourself credit for.
Lastly, failure isn’t where the game stops. So you tried something new, but you didn’t follow through. Frustrated at yourself, you stop trying. As a result, your quality of life goes down terribly. You’ve given up on it, though, because you don’t see the point (since you failed the first time).
Now, you’re an adult. The things you are trying are much more complicated than five-year-old you. However, your behaviour shouldn’t change in the slightest-when you fail in something, that’s just more information in your data bank. You know that method doesn’t work, so try another one! And another one after that! Do this until you figure it out. Giving up is for losers, and you sure aren’t one of those.
