Mr Jackson: So, who are your great writers
Betty: Well, maybe Confucius and Shakespeare.
Mr Jackson: Really I accept that they’re great because their works are still read by
many people today. But I think I’d describe Confucius more as a
teacher and thinker than a writer. He was a very wise man. What do you

or Shakespeare.
Mr Jackson: No, but his books are still popular, and one of his books is my favourite,
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

What’s up 是一种非正式的用法，表示“怎么了/出什么事了？”

discuss v. 讨论；谈论，过去分词是discussed, 现在分词是discussing，
名词形式是discussion。
discuss sth. with sb.意为“和某人谈论某事” 。

sense n. 道理；意义；合理性，可用any、much、a lot of等修饰。
make sense意为“易理解；合情理；有意义”。
e.g. Although I tried to read it again, the sentence still did not

be well-known as意为“作为……而著名”，相当于be famous as 。

Reading Makes a Full Man
Reading is very important in our life. We can get knowledge through
reading. It can not only open our minds but also make us more intelligent.
Besides, reading is also one of the most important ways to learn a foreign
language like English. Textbooks, newspapers, magazines and other kinds
of reading materials can help us know more about the outside world and
grow into an excellent person. I’m planning to read at least 5 books in the
coming holiday. And I’ll spend more time reading every day in my senior
high school life. Reading makes a full man! Let’s start reading now.
