课时6　Section B(3a-Self Check)
课时教学目标
1. 复习本单元的重要单词和短语。
2. 培养学生为他人着想、热爱公益事业、乐于助人的优良品质。
3. 学会写一封参加志愿服务的申请信。
教学重点：

教学难点：
Write a letter or e-mail to the place you want to volunteer at.
教学过程
Step 1 Lead-in
Show pictures of different kinds of volunteer work to students and ask them to talk about the activities people are doing in the pictures.
Step 2 Discussion (3a)
1. Let students work in pairs. Ask students to look at the volunteer work in 3a and talk about what they would like to do and why they would like to do it.
2. Ask students to add more kinds of volunteer work they are interested in and share their opinions in front of the class.
Step 3 Writing (3b)
1. Invite some students to play as administrators who are in charge of the volunteer application. Let them ask questions they want to learn about when judging whether the person can be a volunteer.
2. Ask other students to answer their questions by using the sentence pattern list in the book.
3. Students try to write down their answers and write a short letter by themselves.
4. The teacher walks around in the classroom to offer help.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you about volunteering at the library. I’m interested in computers and teaching, and I want to volunteer as a computer teacher for people who lack computer skills.
I love working with computers and I’m good at explaining how to use new software to younger students at my school. I’ve taught my grandparents how to use e-mail and word processing software.
I like to help people to enjoy computers as much as I do, so I think I’d be good at this job.
I want to help out as a volunteer at your library because I know that many people go there to use your computers.
I’m free to help on weekends and sometimes in the evenings.
