We live in a small town and almost everyone knows each other. It used to be very quiet. Nothing much ever happened around here. However, these days, something unusual is happening in our town. Victor, a teacher at my school, is really nervous. When he was interviewed by the town newspaper, he said, “Every night we hear strange noises outside our window.
重点 Nothing much ever happened around here.happen不及物动词，意为“发生”，没有被动语态。(1) “sth. + happen +地点/时间”表示“某地/某时发生了某事”。The story happened in 2013.(2) “sth. + happen + to sb.”表示“某人出了某事(常指不好的事)”。A car accident happened to her this morning.(3) “sb. + happen + to do sth.”表示“某人碰巧做某事”。I happened to meet a friend of mine in the street yesterday.
重点 Every night we hear strange noises outside our window.noise (sound, especially an unpleasant sound)意为“声音;噪音”，既可作可数名词也可作不可数名词。make a noise意为“发出噪音”。其形容词为noisy,意为“吵闹的;嘈杂的”。Don’t make any noise. The children are sleeping. Who’s making those strange noises

Everyone in our town is feeling uneasy, and everyone has his or her own ideas. There must be something visiting the homes in our neighborhood, but what is it We have no idea. Most people hope that this animal or person will simply go away, but I do not think that is going to happen. The noise-maker is having too much fun creating fear in the neighborhood.
