February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. It’s a day set aside to show extra kindness to the people around us—those we know and those we don’t. Smiling and saying a few encouraging words are easy. But an act of kindness is something you actually do. A random act of kindness is usually unexpected and unplanned. Maybe you help someone carry something. Or maybe you send an encouraging note to a friend.
Caring for others is nothing new. Here is an example from the story of“The Good Samaritan”. It tells a traveler who was robbed (抢劫) and beaten. A man saw him lying on the road but didn’t stop to help. Another man also ignored (忽视) him. But a Samaritan came along though he was a foreigner. He felt sorry and stopped to take care of the stranger. He showed kindness.
Is helping strangers a thing of the past Are people today too busy or too afraid to help someone they don’t know I know from an experience that there is still goodwill between strangers.
One Monday morning, I was running late for work. As I started to drive off, I noticed an elderly lady. She was carrying a large piece of wood in the rain. I was in a hurry, but I thought I couldn’t push it aside. Then I stopped my car, got out and helped her move the wood. Months went by. Then one day, I saw some workmen cleaning out an old store. There in the rubbish was a large Coca-Cola cooler. How fun! A worker said I could have it, so I picked it up and started for home. I didn’t get very far. It was much heavier than I thought. Then out of the blue, the elderly lady appeared with a cart (手推车)! I had helped her, and then she came to help me.
( )24.How does the author support his idea
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples.
C.By raising questions. D.By making comparisons.
( )25.What did the Samaritan do when he saw the traveler
A.He did nothing for him. B.He robbed and beat him.
C.He just said sorry to him. D.He stopped to look after him.
( )26.What do the underlined words “push it aside” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Stop by the road. B.Come late for work.
C.Go without helping the woman. D.Go to work against the heavy rain.
( )27.What can we learn from the author’s story
A.Love and kindness go hand in hand. B.What you give will return to you.
C.Unreasonable kindness gets no thanks. D.Lose in the east and gain in the west.
C
There are so many beautiful places in the world that wait for you to explore, but some of them won’t wait around forever.
The Dead Sea, for example, known for being one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world is in danger of disappearing. Tourists are in the rush to the lake to float (漂浮) in its waters and put its mineral-rich mud on their skin. However, the water level has been dropping more than three feet per year in recent years. In fact, if nothing is done by 2050, it will be too late.
Madagascar’s rainforests could also be gone in about 30 years. They once covered 120,000 square miles, but due to logging (伐木) and forest fires, only 20,000 square miles remain today. This is sad for many animals that call Madagascar home. About 80 percent of the species (物种) that live there can’t be found anywhere else in the world, and there are even many more yet to be discovered.
There are also many man-made places of interest with long history around the world that are at risk of disappearing. One of these is Machu Picchu. A trip to these Inca ruins is on many people’s plan lists. However, Machu Picchu has been in danger, too. If steps are not taken to protect the ancient site, it could be gone in the near future.
Another place in danger is the Great Wall of China. Around one-third of the wall, built over centuries and completed in the Ming dynasty, is already gone. Wind and rain have weathered it and plants that grow in the wall have weakened it further. Also, poor villagers have stolen its bricks in order to sell them or build homes with them.
It’s hard to believe that so many amazing places could soon be gone for good. If you have your heart set on visiting any of these places, pack your bags and get to them before time runs out!

A.It is polluted seriously. B.It attracts too many tourists.

A.They are under good protection now.
B.They are important to the environment.
C.They are famous man-made places of interest in the world.
D.They are in danger of being impossible to see one day.
( )31.Where can you probably read the text
A.In a travel magazine. B.In a science report.
C.In a personal diary. D.In an adventure novel.

If you always dream of traveling around the world but would rather not give up your education, then why not combine (结合) the two Numbers of people are now studying abroad, getting once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences in different places and preparing for a better future. You can choose to spend a week away, or a summer, or even a year. You can go to Spain. Or you can keep things simple by studying in an English-speaking country like Canada or Australia. There are so many options (选项) for you.
Just a few tens of years ago, the options for studying abroad were few and far between. Today the marketplace is positively crowded, so much so that it’s difficult to know where to start. On the upside, this means you’re the master of your own future. So, if you’re serious about studying abroad, it’s time to get planning.
Studying abroad can also be expensive. Besides the cost of the actual education you receive, there are also other costs you need to think about—from flights and accommodation to food and sightseeing. “Eighty percent of American high school teens say they want to travel, but only 1 to 3 percent of them actually do it,” says Samantha Martin. “And we know finances (资金) are a huge part of the problem.” Last year, Samantha and her workmate Jennifer Thomas started Project Travel, a specialist website, to help more students “get on the plane or bus”. Students can ask for help with finances on the website for study, volunteer work, teaching and other types of educational travel. This type of method isn’t suitable for everyone, but there are other methods you can explore if you want to reduce the overall cost of studying abroad.
These are tricky problems you have to deal with, but program advisors, lecturers, fellow students, friends and parents can all give advice and help you find a “study abroad” program that fit s with your goals, your finances and, just as importantly, your personal interests.
( )32.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A.To advise people to study abroad.
B.To show the popularity of studying abroad.
C.To discuss the necessity of studying abroad.
D.To introduce why people choose to study abroad.
( )33.What can we learn from paragraph 2
A.There are many people studying abroad.
B.It is not a good time to study abroad now.
C.Many people think studying abroad is costly.
D.There are many options for studying abroad now.
( )34.In order to study abroad, American high schoolers ______.
A.can borrow money from Project Travel
B.may get financial help on Project Travel
C.must do some volunteer work for Project Travel
D.can get their plane or bus ticket from Project Travel
( )35.What can be the best title for the text

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mom was busy in the kitchen when my brother Marco and I got home from school on Friday. “Did you remember your grandmother’s coming today ” She asked. “Sure, Mom,” we laughed. “Didn’t you notice we cleaned our rooms ” Mom smiled and continued, “Thanks. I know I shouldn’t be nervous, but my mother hasn’t been here for almost six years! As I was growing up, her house always looked perfect. So I want everything to be well.”
“Perfect,” I said with a smile. “What else can we do to help before she gets here ”
Mom looked around,“You two could set the table. Use the good bowls. And be very careful with the glasses Grandma gave to us before you were born!”
As Mom prepared a big meal, Marco and I set the table. I taught Marco how to line up the forks on the left side of each p late and the knives and spoons on the right. In the center of the table, we placed a set of tall white candles. Then we stepped back and looked at our work. It seemed something was missing. “What’s missing ” I asked Marco.
“Napkins ” He asked. “And I don’t think Mom would want us to use paper ones!”
We both laughed. Marco opened a drawer and took out the nice cloth napkins Mom saved for special occasions (场合). The soft white squares were folded in the middle, and we placed one on each plate. “Do you think that looks good enough ” I asked.
“No,” Marco answered. “Let’s make them look better. Remember the restaurant we went to last year Their napkins were folded into different shapes! That was great!”
I nodded and unfolded the cloth napkin in front of me. “Look,” I said, pointing to the napkin, “These lines make special shapes. That gives me a great idea! Let’s do origami (折纸). That’ll make the napkins unique!”
Marco looked confused, so I explained,“Origami’s a kind of folding art. People usually use paper, but you can use cloth. You make boats, birds or flowers just by folding. Nothing else is needed!”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Mom heard us and came to help. ________________________________________________________________

M: 454-5454.
W: That is an easy number.

When I was a teenager growing up in France, I wanted to leave school and have my own life. I could only do this by working in the local paper factory in my town. When I told my father I wanted to leave school, he said, “OK. Let ‘s go to the paper factory.” Two days later, he took me to the factory. I thought everyone would be working together and having fun.
I walked around the factory, looking at the building and listening to the noise. It was terrible. I ran back to my father and said, “I want to go home.” He asked me, “What do you think of the factory ” “It’s awful,” I answered. I went back to school the next day and studied hard. I was admitted into a famous college. I studied language there. Thanks to my father and our trip to the paper factory, I now work at the United Nations. And my father is very proud of me.

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jack,
How’s it going I’ve only been in America for two days, but I’ve already fallen in love with it. Today I am writing to share my travelling with you.
Now I am in a small cafe with a friend who works here. He’s great. He took me to a milk tea shop in order to show me the drink’s popularity. It isn’t much like ours, but it was nice to have a new taste. Whether ordering meals or talking with the locals, I use English—that is why I can feel my pronunciation improving. Tonight I will go camping with my friends near a lake, which should be exciting. I’ll write again and share the experience with you when I get the chance.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Mom heard us and came to help. “I know how to make a bird and a flower,” she said. She quickly folded a napkin, and then unfolded it to show us how the shapes fit together. Just then, Dad came home from work and showed us how to make a plane and a boat. “Okay,” he said. “In 20 minutes your grandma will walk through that door. We’d better get these napkins folded before she comes!” Soon we turned all the napkins into different shapes.
We placed a different origami napkin on each plate. Now, the table looked great! And just in time, Grandma arrived by taxi and hugged us one by one. Then she showed us the gifts she brought from the countryside. But I couldn’t wait to lead her to the dining room to see our great work. Just as I expected, when seeing what was on the table, she was very surprised and happy. We all smiled. We were happy that Grandma thought Mom’s home was perfect!
