表示数量，置于名词前。
eg.I have five apples. 我有五个苹果。
表示编号，置于名词后。名词和基数词首字母通常大写。
eg.I'm in Class Two, Grade Seven. 我在七年级二班。

表示号码。

表示年龄。
eg.My father is forty now.

表示时间。

表示计算。

基数词的用法
从one到twelve， 拼写和读音没有什么规律，逐一记忆；
表示“几十几”， 用“整十数+个位数”表示，中间用连字符“-”把十位数和个位数连接起来。

从thirteen 到nineteen, 表示“十几”，其后均有后缀-teen。注意thirteen, fifteen, eighteen的拼写。
