I’m in middle school, and not that good at reading. I am a little behind and hate the books we are made to read. But I want to get better at reading. I don’t like being the weakest reader in the class. I want to change. I know I need help when it comes to reading. I’m hopeful that I can overcome（克服） my weakness if I try to find some ways and work hard.
So I go to the library every weekend. Last Saturday I went straight to the Young Adult section to search. There were hundreds of books to choose from. Finally, I saw a cover that was shiny, and it reflected（反射） the light and caught my eye. I saw that it was blue—I liked blue. So I picked it up and read the back. It sounded interesting, and although it was the second book in the series, I got it. I read that book in two days, and found it was so attractive, so I read the whole series in a week.
By judging（判断） a book by its cover, I was not only able to pick up a book that became one of my favourites, but I also didn’t have to pick up hundreds of books that I may not like. If I never judged a book by its cover, I might have never found that book in the first place.
This advice is suitable for other things in life as well, especially when it comes to people. It’s not always exact, but by judging a person by their appearance—the way they dress, talk, and act—you can quickly see if you want to read their general condition by having a conversation with them. If you enjoy them like you enjoy a good book, then you can keep them in your inner circle—the people that you care about and who care about you.

A walk along the Beijing Central Axis, joining the dots of the Drum Tower, the busy Nanluoguxiang Lane, the Jingshan Park and the Forbidden City—this was Zhao Xianghan’s maiden city-walking journey in the spring of 2022. Since then, the 21-year-old student from the Beijing Foreign Studies University has remained a city-walk enthusiast（爱好者）, believing it to be the best way to “rediscover a city”.

The city-walk culture to experience urban life with no transportation means other than one’s legs and feet has made sensations on different social media platforms. According to a report from China’s lifestyle-sharing platform Xiaohongshu, in the first half of 2023, searches about city-walk increased 30-fold from the previous year.
Netizens also share their city-walking experience on the Twitter-like Sina Weibo. One post recommended a classic city-walk path from Wukang Road to Fuxing Park in Shanghai. “The path offers a look into the culture and landscape of Shanghai in different historical stages as well as its beautiful natural scenery,” it wrote.
Following his experience in Beijing, Zhao has also explored Wuhan, Hangzhou and other cities through city-walking tours. “City-walk is all about doing whatever you want in your own exploration of a city, and it is actually a kind of slow-paced and low-carbon lifestyle that I re late to so much,” said Zhao.

Nowadays, students are easier to learn in front of computers. With good reasons, many people question whether the state-of-the-art technology can finally change the way we learn. Others, however, make an argument that the traditional classroom-based learning has its own limitations （限制）. Considering both sides, my view is that the new program me can bring far more benefits than the traditional education.
First, it is obvious that, any people, as long as they have access（有机会接近） to Internet, can obtain the education resources easily. It is especially beneficial to people who live in a remote area without schools or are short of money to pay for tuition. So, it is truly a convenient way for people who are interested in learning.
Moreover, the distance learning can help itself integrate（融入） its best knowledge materials and let go of them for sharing. For example, in the last 5 years, some famous universities, including Yale, Cambridge and Oxford University, have published their most famous professors’ courses on the Internet, followed crazily by many students all over the world. If more and more universities take part in the program me, students will be facing a large wide and varied range of knowledge and the benefits for the whole human beings are huge.
That is not to say that traditional education should be forgotten. Teachers not only can teach knowledge, but also they can correct, motivate and interact（互 动） with students. But unfortunately it has weaknesses due to its inflexibility（不灵活） and lack of communications with teachers after class.
All in all, we should fully make good use of the modern technology to make the education opportunities available to people; meanwhile, we should not ignore the importance of traditional learning. Only by doing so can we bridge the gap between rich and poor, and thus make the whole society more impartial（公正的）.
