Huang Gongwang was a famous Chinese artist in the Yuan Dynasty. He was good at music, poetry, writing and especially painting.
Huang was born in 1269 in Jiangsu Province. Sadly, when he was young, his parents died and he lived a poor life. But then, a nice man from Zhejiang Province adopted (收养) him and took care of him. The kind man was impressed by the boy’s talent. Later Huang began to learn painting under the guidance of Zhao Mengfu.
Between the ages of 50 and 62, Huang often travelled in nature. During the long-term travelling, he developed an interest in rivers and mountains. When living in Songjiang, Huang often watched and enjoyed the fantastic scenery there. Sometimes he sat in the mountains all day, even forgetting to eat and have a rest. While enjoying the beauty of nature, he got lots of good ideas about what to paint.
Huang drew lots of paintings during his later life. But most of them have gone missing over the centuries. Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains (《富春山居图》) is one of the few surviving works and it is considered to be among his greatest works. It describes the autumn scenery along Fuchun River in southern China with ink and wash. After years of efforts, Huang finished painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. Unluckily, this painting was later burnt into two pieces. Now, the two pieces are carefully kept in two different museums.
During Huang’s life, he made great achievements in painting. Because of his great ability in art, Huang was considered one of the Four Great Masters of the Yuan Dynasty.

Most kids can’t sit still or join in any meaningful dialogue when having video chats with their family members. Nor would they watch the videos you made of yourself reading a favorite book. Now there’s a storytelling app born out of these problems.
Zoog is a new communication app designed to provide a creative way for distant (遥远的) and cross-general family members to stay connected. Through Zoog, users can make books become alive and interesting.
The Zoog app asks you to choose one of the many stories to read and then it offers advice and naturally adds special effects to make the story alive. Once you’ve recorded yourself reading the story, you can send it as a message to your little family member. This is a great benefit as you can record or view the story whenever it’s convenient (方便) to you.
One user, Sumit Suman, used Zoog when he traveled for business. He changed himself into an animated (动画的) frog in order to hold his five-year-old daughter’s attention on phone calls. He said that his daughter would not speak to him on the phone, so he used Zoog to change himself into a frog — Suman in animated frog dress — and now they read stories every night.
Zoog is a valuable tool and any grandparent can learn to use it easily and quickly. “What we set out to achieve was to enable grandparents to produce cool content. They usually have little understanding of technology,” said Oren. “But many grandparents are creating content on Zoog, which they are enjoying, and their grandchildren think this content is cool and love it,” he added.

In the west of Melbourne, more than 300 kids from six primary schools are going to use special school bags that can also check air quality. This helps scientists find ways to reduce air pollution. It’s part of a study called “Breathe Melbourne”, where kids will become air quality scientists by collecting important information while going to and from school.
Schools in this areas were picked for the research because they have high levels of air pollution and a lot of kids with asthma (哮喘病). This is because these areas used to have a lot of factories.
More kids in these areas go to the hospital for asthma compared to other parts of Australia. Professor Irving from a hospital said, “The Breathe Melbourne study is very significant because it focuses on children who are already at risk because of bad air quality, and it aims to reduce that risk and help with asthma.”
An engineer named James explained how the air quality readers work. There’s a fan in the bag that pulls in outside air towards the sensors (传感器). The bag also has a GPS tracker that helps experts see which areas have more air pollution.
In a recent study the schoolchildren and some of their teachers are seen wearing the air quality bags on four days each week for a few months. Children change their roads and the ways they go to school in the experiment as healthier choices are found. In the research, children can be educated and will learn more about air pollution.
Dr. Kate Lycett, the lead researcher, hopes that the information they collect will force officials to take action. She said, “Every child should have fresh air to breathe. Where they live shouldn’t decide how clean the air they breathe is.”
