(一)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案。
Host: As we know, the British have been sending cards since the 19th century. They spend about 1,700,000,000 pounds on cards every year. However, the number of people sending cards and letters is falling. More than30 percent of UK children have never sent or received a handwritten letter. Should the tradition of sending cards and letters be stopped
Group A: We live in a fast-developing world and using snail mail is unnecessary. Making paper uses lots of energy and some cards are hard to recycle. It's bad for environment. What's more, cards are expensive to buy and so is posting. Nowadays, we usually use our phones and computers because they are quick, easy and free. Traditional cards and letters are out of date. They are not young people's cup of tea. It's no surprise that most of them end up as litter. Group B: The tradition has been around for hundreds of years and should stay. Sending a handwritten letter or carefully chosen card shows that you care. Phone messages and emails are quick and easy, but they seem to carry less feeling. Sending letters is good for children because it is a chance to practice writing skills. Also, it's fun! Receiving post makes you feel special and it's important if someone lives far away or is lonely-just imagine a birthday without cards!
41. What is the discussion mainly about
A. Why the British like sending cards and letters.
B. When the British send cards and letters.
C. Whether the British should keep the tradition.
D. What the British sent in the 19th century.
42. Which of the following facts directly caused the discussion
A. People have different opinions.
B. Fewer British people send cards and letters.
C. UK children change their own writing habits.
D. The British spend too much money on cards and letters.
43. Who thinks it necessary to keep the tradition according to the discussion
A. The host. B. UK children. C. Group A. D. Group B.

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time, about eight hours after you wake up, your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy.
In many parts of the world, people take naps(打盹) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer weather, in which the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any weather. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind, which is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people don't often have problems such as heart disease.
Many working people, unluckily, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may suggest taking naps, employers(雇主) do not allow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterwards. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap-even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.
44. Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon
A. It is too hot. B. You have a big lunch at noon.
C. It is a habit to have a rest at that time. D. Your body temperature goes down at that time.
45. What can you infer from the passage
A. If you get up at 6 a.m., the best time to take a nap is about 2 p.m..
B. If you can take a nap every day, you will never have heart disease.
C. A law will be made to allow employees to have a nap every day.
D. The hot temperature makes work difficult, so we need to work without naps.
46. In which part of a magazine can we most probably read this passage
A. Sports. B. Travel. C. Health. D. Culture.

There are many colours in nature. But do you know if a colour has weight I think you'll say "no". But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don't believe, you may do a small test.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then, cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier. Why do you think so A scientist found that different colours have different weight in a man's mind. He did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour Of course not.
Then why did the scientist say so That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength(波长). It reaches our brain through sense organs(器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colours they like and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you'll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you'll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colours.
47. How did the scientist find that a colour has weight in a man's mind
A. By reading books. B. By asking questions.
C. By doing tests. D. By collecting examples.
48. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5
A. Colours can influence our body and mind.
B. Different colours have different weight.
C. Our temperature will change with different colours.
D. Time seems to pass more quickly in a red room.
49. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. We can smell colours with our nose.
B. You can know the weight of a colour by holding it.
C. Every colour can give off light of the same wavelength.
D. In our mind, the colour red is heavier than the colour white.
50. What would be the best title for the passage
A. How can we weigh an object
B. Do colours have weight and smell
C. Are colours really good for our health
D. What is the relationship between weight and smell
D
