THE UNUSUAL CLASSROOM When you walk into any classroom here, you will be surprised to find: the desks and the blackboard here are unusual! There is no desk on the podium (讲台). The students have become the master of the classroom. In the past, the teacher talked a lot in class and the students only listened. Now, the study group will design (设计) homework which meets the need of students at different levels. In that case, students can usually finish it within 20 minutes. —Guo

The class is designed into three periods: one third of that is guided by the teacher, one third of that is for students to discuss, and another third is for them to summarize (总结) and practice so as to form their own learning thinking. —Penny
The classroom has become more interesting. The teacher will give us more time to practice by ourselves in class. There will also be some group discussions or learning inquiry (探究) activities. Since 2014, Singapore Design Week has been held in this “garden city”, connecting design and business with public policies (政策). They provided richer colors for people’s lives with creative solutions. During the design week, Asia’s leading designs and companies went to Singapore to show their talents and creations to the world. Tourists from all over the world will enjoy funny experiences as well.
Last year the show had products made from recycled materials. The designers are from 55 design companies in Southeast Asia, an area that is among the world’s largest producers of plastic pollution and other waste.
Among the creations, there were designer Adhi Nugraha’s speakers and lights, made by using cow dung (牛粪). Although it’s a natural material, cow dung can pollute water and air, which will cause bad environmental effects. Nugraha washed the dung with water, and then mixed it with waster plastic to create the products. Denny made pen holders and bottles from a paper-like material he developed with sawdust (锯末).
Designer David Lee made lights from washing machine tubes (管子), while Max Lamb created a chair from recycled plastic bottles. Using special skills, Cynthia Chan made rugs (毛毯) from dog hair collected from pet shops in Singapore. Each shop cuts off more than two pounds of dog hair a day, which would have been thrown in the rubbish bin.
Suzy Annetta, who chose the designs for the show, said it had a “rubbish to treasure” theme and that designers were trying to solve the problems the planet was facing. “Designers are interested in nature and they are problem solvers,” she said.
( ) 14. What did the leading designers do in Singapore Design Week
A. Show their talents.

四、书面表达
As far as I am concerned, learning to listen is not only a rare self-cultivation, but also the wisdom of life. When listening to others, we can express support for others and make others feel that we know how to respect them.
I used to feel stressed before the exam. However, I kept it to myself. As a result, I felt worried and couldn’t pay attention to what the teacher said in class. After a few days, I couldn’t stand the anxiety. Then, I made up my mind to tell it to my close friend. To my surprise, he kept silent and patient while listening. This really made me feel relaxed and I felt the power of listening for the first time.
Being a good listener plays an important role in communication and can really make us get closer to others. Learning to listen can help people who need love release the pain in their hearts and they can no longer feel lonely and sad.
