The HR manager interviewed him and then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. “You have passed the test,” he said. “Give me your e mail address and I’ll send you the form to fill in and the date when you may start.” The man replied, “But I don’t have a computer, neither an e mail.” “I’m sorry,” said the HR manager. “If you don’t have an e mail, that means you are not living. And anyone who isn’t living cannot have the job.”
The man left with no hope at all. He didn’t know what to do with only $10 in his pocket. He thought and thought. Then he went to the supermarket and bought 10 kilos of tomatoes. He sold the tomatoes from door to door. In less than two hours, he had 20 dollars. He repeated the operation three times, and started to go early every day, and returned home late. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. Five years later, the man was one of the biggest food retailers (零售商) in the US.
One day, one of his friends asked him for his e mail. He said, “I haven’t got one.” His friend couldn’t believe his ears. “Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e mail ” The man thought for a while and replied, “Yes, I’d be an office boy at Microsoft!”

In Central America, sea turtle eggs are a popular cuisine dish. The eggs are hugely and secretly harvested onto tables, leaving the sea turtles listed as threatened. Yet we simply do not have the ability to continuously guard large beaches. Scientist Kim Williams was thinking hard when she had an “aha” moment:How about placing a fake egg containing a GPS tracker
That's how the special eggs come in. To build them, Williams and her colleagues used a 3D printer. Then, they fixed in the smallest GPS tracking devices. As mother turtles laid their eggs under cover of night, the researchers slipped a single spy egg into each nest. Once they are covered in sand from the real ones, “It's very difficult to tell the difference,” says Williams.
Of the 101 spy eggs, 25 were taken away while six of them were quickly discovered and left on the beach. The team received tracking data with the farthest egg traveling 137 kilometers inland and stopping at a local supermarket. The spy egg sent its final signal the next day from a personal house, suggesting that the research team had tracked the eggs all the way. The researchers stress that the tracker is not away to catch local thieves, many of whom are living in poverty, but rather a tool to better understand how the deal goes.
Still stopping stealing is not as simple as handing the tracking data over to the police. Across Central America, trade in sea turtle eggs can be legally ambiguous. In Costa Rica, for example, it is illegal to steal and sell sea turtle eggs but buying them is not a crime. It is not black and white. Meanwhile, local support is in need, above all.“It, but not tracking with eggs, is the real meat and potatoes of conservation,” says Williams.
24..What is the major threat to the existence of sea turtles
A.Unsafe GPS trackers.
B.Unguarded sea beaches.
C.The popular dishes of sea turtles.
D.The overhunting of turtle eggs.
25.How does Williams explain her study in paragraph 2
A.By listing scientific data.
B.By distinguishing the differences.
C.By clarifying the process.
D.By demonstrating an expert's statement.
26.Why did the researchers track so many spy eggs
A.To test the GPS trackers.

27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Spy Eggs Save Endangered Sea Turtles
B.Sea Turtles Draw Constant Concern
C.Spy Eggs Help Locate Egg Thieves
D.Advanced Technology Protects Sea Turtles

An experimental cleanup device called Remove DEBRIS has successfully cast a net around a dummy (仿真的) satellite, imitating a technique that could one day collect spaceborne(星载的)garbage.
The test, which was carried out this week, is widely believed to be the first successful demonstration of space cleanup technology, experts told CNN. And it symbolizes an early step toward solving what has already been a critical issue: junk in space.
Millions of pieces of junk are turning around in orbit the result of 50 years of space travel and few regulations to keep space clean. At orbital speeds, even a small bit of paint crashing with a satellite can cause critical damage.
Various companies have plans to send thousands of new satellites into low-Earth orbit, already the most crowded area.
The Remove DEBRIS experiment is run by a company and researchers led by the U. K.'s Surrey Space Center and includes Airbus, Airbus-owned Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. and France's Ariane Group.
Guglielmo Aglietti, the director of Surrey Space Center, said that an operational version of the Remove DEBRlS technology would cast a net that remains fastened to the main satellite so the debris can be dragged out of orbit. It could target large pieces of junk, including dead satellites up to 10 meters long.
The Remove DEBRIS satellite will conduct a few more experiments in the coming months, including testing navigation features that could help guide the satellite to a specific piece of debris.
Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said the success of this week's experiment was exciting, but he cautioned against "over- publicizing" it.
There are still enormous barriers to clear before operational cleanup tasks are underway, he said, and the most discouraging is figuring out how to fund such projects.
Aglietti, the Surrey professor who helped lead the Remove DEBRIS project, said "The challenge will lie in persuading the relevant authorities to sponsor these tasks." Aglietti said he hopes Remove DEBRIS will conduct a few cleanup tasks per year, targeting the largest pieces of junk in the most crowded orbits.
28.What is the use of the Remove DEBRIS satellite
A. Demonstrating space technology. B. Imitating a developing technique.
C. Collecting wastes existing in space. D. Symbolizing great progress in space.
29. How does the Remove DEBRlS satellite work
A. By throwing a net to take the junk from orbit.
B. By fastening it to the main satellite tightly.
C. By dragging satellites up to 10 meters long.
D. By targeting large pieces of junk carefully.
30. What does the underlined word "sponsor" in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Accomplish. B. Support. C. Oppose. D. Provide.
31. What's the best title for the text
A. The Remove DEBRIS Project Is Perfect
B. How Remove DEBRIS Is Invented in the Lab
C. Why the Remove DEBRIS Satellite Is Invented
D. Satellite Collects Space Junk for the First Time

A Dream Come True
For many years, I kept having the same dream. I was a little girl again, rushing about, trying to get ready for school.
“Hurry, you’ll be late for school,” my mother called to me.
“I am hurrying, Mom. What did I do with my books ”
Deep inside I knew where the dream came from. It was about some unfinished business in my life. As a kid, I loved everything about school. I loved books, teachers, tests and homework. Most of all, I longed to someday march down the aisle (走廊) to receive my diploma (毕业文凭). That seemed more appealing even than getting married.
But at 15, I had to drop out because my parents couldn’t afford tuition. My hope of getting a diploma was dead, or so I thought. Years later, I married and had three children, and I thought, “There goes my diploma.”
Even so, I wanted my children to be educated. But Linda, our youngest child, had juvenile arthritis (幼年型关节炎) in her hands and knees, which made it impossible for her to function in a normal classroom. I felt really sorry for her and I didn’t want her to live her life with regret. I didn’t give up hope of her going back to school in some way.
One day, I saw an ad. in the newspaper for evening courses. “That’s the answer,” I said to myself. Linda always feels better in the evening, so I’ll just sign her up for night school.
Linda was busy filling out enrollment (登记) forms when the secretary said, “Mrs. Schantz, why don’t you come back to school ”
I laughed, “There’s no way. I’m 55.” But he persisted, and before I knew what I had done, I was enrolled for classes in English and art. “This is only an experiment,” I warned the secretary, but he just smiled. So, I told myself to try for just a semester and to see if it would work. Anyway, my dream was still there in my heart.
续写要求:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
