What do you think robots are capable of You might be able to find one that fits your needs at the World Robot Conference(WRC) 2022 in Beijing. Held from Aug 18 to 21, more than 500 robots were on display at the WRC, according to Xinhua. From human-like robots that look surprisingly lively to robots that can make jianbing 24 hours a day, this year’s WRC showed quite a few cutting-edge inventions.
Technology in agriculture
A fruit-picking robot attracted visitors’ attention. With the help of various sensors and an AI system, the robot can collect fruit according to its ripeness, quality and size, according to CCTV. The robot first locates the fruit and then uses sensors to decide whether it is ripe, with a robotic arm picking the fruit gently. The fruit is then categorized, ending up in a basket according to its size. Wu Jiafeng, the exhibitor of the fruit- picking robot, told CCTV that more robotic technology will be used in agriculture in the future, including robots for daily inspection and weeding.
Robots fighting COVID-19
Medical staff conducting nucleic acid tests often find their work toilsome, especially under the summer heat. A nucleic acid test robot developed by Tsinghua University and a Chinese biotech company was presented at the WRC. It looks like a vending machine(自动售卖机), but the robot can collect throat swabs, process samples, as well as produce and upload the results within 45 minutes, according to China Daily. The whole process will not require the involvement of humans or laboratories.
Inventions of the youth
Those visiting the exhibit also witnessed the intelligence of a new generation. Students from BDA School of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China had their own exhibition at the WRC. Despite their young age, the students brought fascinating inventions and ideas. For example Wang Jiarun, a junior student at the school, designed a three-dimensional parking facility. Since there are usually too few parking spaces in older residential areas, Wang’s work aims to fit more cars into current parking spots. The facility works like a sky wheel with six parking spots. When cars need to be picked up, the facility rotates steadily, placing the car on the ground.

Some of my earliest memories involve sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office. I’d watch as he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet, comb and car keys. They would always occupy the same spot on the table every time.
Dad’s comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, “Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK ”
I was more than happy to do it. At age five, this kind of task brought me such joy. I would excitedly turn the tap on, and then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me, and place the comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. Dad’s business wasn’t doing so well, and our stable life started getting shaky. He didn’t come home as much as he used to. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. I started to get mad. Why didn’t he listen to Mum and just stick to his old job Why take the risk and place the whole family in trouble Over the years, I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him.
Now 28, I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has also started to get back on track. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me went on.
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. On that evening, I helped him carry his bags into his study as usual. When I turned to leave, he asked me to clean his comb. I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink.
It was a new comb. This one was brown. I hadn’t noticed that he’d changed it. After cleaning it, I passed it back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something different. My dad had aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled, yet his smile was still as heartwarming as before.

A. That he was eager to get everything on track. B. That he wanted to keep his family life stable.
C. That he was laid off and had to make a living. D. That he hoped to earn a better life for the family.

D
When you think about it, food is an important part of our lives. Family gatherings center around food and the celebration of major life events and milestones involves food in one way or another. The same holds true for us here on the Space Station. Food is important and ends up usually being a topic of discussion for almost every crew.
The food that we have here on ISS has to meet many different requirements. What about variety How do you meet all of the peculiarities of the people that you come across, especially when they are from different cultures What about the logistics(物流)of getting the right food here at the right time So there are a couple of different questions you have to consider when you talk about food and long-duration space flight.
On the U.S. side we have gone to a standard menu, meaning that every 16 days you start over with the same menu. To compensate the crews, we are allowed to pick one“preference”container which consists of our pick of anything on the U. S. menu list. This allows us some variety in our menu, with the choices up to us. One of the desirable options for any crew is to make sure that enough tortillas(墨西哥玉米粉薄饼) get on board. You can do so much with a tortilla; it becomes the vehicle with which to eat almost anything.
Our food also comes packaged in many ways. But no matter what the form of the food though, you still have the same problem eating it- - you do not want it flying away from you and making a mess when you open it up. In this case a little bit of extra water is extremely helpful. It keeps the food kind of sticking together and to the package and to your spoon. Small things do escape from time to time, but we really try hard to minimize the random flying food problem. That is enough for now! Next time I will write about how to cook in space.
12. Where is the text most probably taken from
A. A food magazine. B. An astronaut’s journal.
C. A sci-fi handbook. D. A space history website.
13. What does the underlined word “peculiarities” mean in paragraph 2
A. Ambitious targets. B. Similar requests.
C. Unusual habits. D. Harsh conditions.
14. What is the author’ s purpose in mentioning tortillas
A. To illustrate the preference container. B. To give an example of standard menu.
C. To advocate tortillas to the readers. D. To show the variety of food options.
15. What can be inferred about eating in space
A. Food packaging is optional. B. Sufficient water helps transport food.
C. Flying food problem is unavoidable. D. Eating in space is easier than most imagine.
B 13. C 14. A 15. C
根据第一段中的“The same holds true for us here on the Space Station. (对于在空间站的我们而言也是如此。)”, 以及最后一段中的“Next time I will write about how to cook in space. (下次我会写一写在太空烹饪的事情。)”可以得知,本文以第一人称来陈述太空饮食方面的内容,因此本文应该是一篇宇航员的太空日志。故选B。
【13题详解】
词义猜测题。第二段第一句提到“The food that we have here on ISS has to meet many different requirements.
第三段第二、三句提到“To compensate the crews, we are allowed to pick one“preference”container which consists of our pick of anything on the U. S. menu list. This allows us some variety in our menu, with the choices up to us. ”(为了补偿机组人员,我们可以选择一个“偏好”集装箱,其中包括我们在美国菜单上选择的任何东西。这让我们在菜单上有了一些多样性,选择由我们自己决定。)可以得知,美国宇航员在太空中更喜欢吃玉米粉薄饼,因此作者提到tortillas的用意是举例解释宇航员们的“preference container(偏好食盒)”。故选A。
根据最后一段中的“Small things do escape from time to time, but we really try hard to minimize the random flying food problem. (细小食物的确时不时逃逸出来, 但我们尽力把食物乱飞的情况降至最低。)”可以得知,食物乱飞的情况是不可避免的。故选C。

If you simply repeat a behavior for a certain number of days, you’re certain to develop the habit. But habit formation is not so simple.___16___But by employing the following tips, you will speed up the process.
A habit is simply a repeated behavior. Before you can develop a new habit, you will need to set a small, specific behavioral goal. For example, try “doing laundry every Sunday morning” instead of “keeping a more organized home”.___17___It’s a behavior that you can repeat over and over until it becomes a habit.
___18___You are motivated to make the change and you enjoy eating healthy food, but why can’t you keep the habit Think about the barriers that might be stopping you. Maybe you are too tired to cook after work, so you end up ordering unhealthy take-out meals. Instead of trying to fight through the exhaustion, consider ways to work around the barrier. You could spend one weekend afternoon each week preparing meals for the next five days.
Experiment with to-do lists, daily phone alarms, and any other tools you can use to create reminders. ___19___In addition to creating reminders about desirable behaviors, you may need to remind yourself not to repeat the behavior you want to change.
