What is a surprise party
Surprise party是西方国家常见的一种聚会形式，是一种旨在给人带来惊喜的聚会,聚会往往围绕一个或若干主题人物而举办,聚会的举办者事先会对主题人物保密，待其来到聚会现场之后才意外发现大家在为自己举行聚会，因而会十分惊讶和感激。
还有一种surprise party并没有所谓的主题人物，而是旨在娱乐，参与者在聚会当中不断遭遇各种意惊喜,欢乐不止。因此, surprise party可译作“惊喜聚会”。

turn down 此处意为“拒绝”，相当于refuse。
turn down还可意为将声音“关小；调低”。反义短语为turn up“开大；调高”。turn down为“动词+副词”型短语，当代词作其宾语时，应放在turn 与down之间。

【拓展】　 reply 后常接宾语时，需借助介词to ；或者接that从句等；reply 还可以作名词 (其后跟介词to) 表示“对……的答复”

without是介词，意为“没有；不（做某事）”。其后可跟动词-ing形式、人称代词宾格或名词，用来表示伴随或假设的情况。without的反义词为with，意为“具有；带有”。so that表示“以便,为的是”,引导目的状语从句,相当于in order that。从句中常与may,might,can,could,be able to,would,should等情态动词连用。
