Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been in the news a lot lately. And according to a recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute, roughly half of today’s work activities could be automated (自动的) by 2055. Could “teaching” be on that list
Computers are capable of levels of calculations we could only dream of achieving with our minds alone. But when a human teacher can connect to a student by having “been there”, through heartfelt listening, they can inspire their students to learn, create, and excel. Even AI with advanced technology can’t do this.
So, chances are good that your job is safe for the near future. But it is going to that change, and AI is going to be a part of education. Hopefully, robots will be joining us quite soon ... as teaching assistants.
Recently, a Georgia Tech professor built an AI teaching assistant for his classroom, which allowed him to more effectively manage over 400 students all over the world. His AI tends to answer more routine questions, freeing him to deal with some of the more complex problems from students.
A variety of robots are also being used in South Korea and Japan as a resource to supplement language learning. Students can go through any variety of conversational practices, and the AI can monitor mistakes in usage and pronunciation. In fact, research shows that these programs can help resolve issues like shyness, confidence, and frustration that can arise when practicing repetitively with a teacher: a robot will not get tired, no matter how many mistakes a child makes.
Surprisingly, the West is much more hesitant about embracing the integration of robots and AI in our classrooms, but the tides are quickly turning. Should you start packing up your desk Absolutely not. The bottom line is that these technologies work best when paired with an active human teacher. But it certainly could make your job easier and more efficient.
12. The author’s attitude towards human teachers’ future can be described as ________.
A. worried B. optimistic C. doubtful D. confused
13. What does the author want to show by giving the example of Georgia Tech professor
A. AI will control future teaching. B. AI will make no big difference.
C. AI will do more difficult jobs. D. AI will greatly help teachers.
14. In what way does a robot do better than a human teacher
A. Being patient B. Being creative.
C. The ability to inspire. D. The ability to communicate.
15. What is the author’s final conclusion about future teaching
A. Robots will play a leading role. B. Teachers will be replaced by robots.
C. Robots will be teachers’ good friends. D. Teachers will teach without leaving home.
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. C

Let me see how quickly I can get to her place.” After looking at his work schedule, Mark realized he could make it to his mother’s house by the evening if he left the office in an hour. He quickly finished his work and left the office without wasting even a minute.
On his way, he stopped at a bakery and bought his mother’s favorite cheesecake. “My mother turned 80 today!” he cheered, telling the shop keep er how happy he was. He also bought her balloons and a few gifts.
Excited to see her after a decade, Mark drove towards his mother’s house. Although he wanted to call her, he thought it would be better to surprise her because he was sure she wasn’t expecting him to visit her. After all, this was the first time he had done something like this in years.

Mark realized the house was abandoned. He entered the house, and with his phone’s flashlight, he carefully turned the lights on. A thick layer of dust had settled on the furniture and the photos that took him down memory lane. As he slowly walked around, a wave of regret engulfed him. Every corner of the house reminded him of missed opportunities to bond with his mother, listen to her stories and learn about her feelings. Then he realized he should give his mother a call immediately. Fortunately, he had no difficulty contacting her. On the phone, he learned that his mother had moved.
Finally, Mark found his mother in a local retirement community. She had left her house a year before because she felt lonely. Since Mark never seemed to give her time, she did not want to bother him either. Mark felt ashamed but managed to celebrate his mother’s birthday with her friends at the retirement community. That day, he realized the importance of having family around and how loneliness forces people to do the unthinkable. So, he promised to be there for her from then on, no matter how busy he was.

I have discovered another side of it and that I can make technology of my own.”

He only spoke to her on the phone, updating her about his life. Soon, his relationship with her came to a point where he rarely called her.
It was ten years since Mark has last seen his mother, and he didn’t remember the last timethey spoke on the phone. One day, the reminder on his phone read, “Mom’s 80th birthday!”
“Oh, God! How can I forget her birthday again ” Mark shook his head as he turned the reminder alarm off. “I can’t keep disappointing her like this.
Mark finally arrived at his mother’s house after driving for hours across the country, but it did not look the same anymore. The lights inside were all off and the fence was covered in wild vines (藤). It seemed like no one had been living in the house.
