Book3 Unit6 I'm going to study computer science
Good afternoon,dear judges! I'm It's my great honor to stand here and share my teaching design with you. The following seven parts will be included in my presentation.
Part I Analysis of teaching material
My lesson is from Go for it, Book3, Unit6 I'm going to study computer science. Section B Writing. The topic of this unit is future intentions. In this writing class,Ss are supposed to express their resolutions and state reasons with the target language.It's very close to Ss' life.
Part II Analysis of students
The students in Grade 8 are active and curious. They have some basic language knowledge and some writing skills.Also,they are familiar with this topic. However, they may still have difficulty in putting what they have learned into practice.So I'll use some lively activities to arouse their interest and encourage them to finish the tasks step by step.
Part III Teaching Objectives
According to the New Curriculum Standard, the core qualities of English learners include language ability, cultural awareness, thinking capacity and learning ability.
It emphasizes not only obtaining language learning, but also establishing correct values. So, I set the following objectives.
Firstly, by the end of this class, Ss will be able to use‘be going to,I plan/decide/want to...’ to talk about and write down their resolutions and plans.
Secondly, Ss will realize the importance of making resolutions,but it's not enough to just make personal resolutions,they should take action to achieve their goals.Because 'Actions speak louder than words.'
Thirdly, Ss will know how to analyze a problem in a more logical and divergent way.
At last, Ss' writing ability will get improved and they will also be trained to cooperate with others.
Part IV Teaching Key & Difficult points
The key point is to use simple future tense to write down personal resolutions correctly and give reasons.Some students may have difficulty in summarizing the writing structure and constructing content schema for the writing.
Part V Teaching Methods & Learning Methods
My class should be a student-centered class. In order to fulfill these objectives, I’ll mix several teaching methods, including task-based language teaching method, situational teaching method and communicative teaching method. As for learning method, I will lead Ss to use independent learning and cooperative learning method to learn initiatively.
Part VI Teaching Procedures
Step I Lead-in
After greeting Ss, I will share a video which is about resolutions.
The purpose is to enliven the atmosphere and lead in the topic naturally.
Step II Pre-writing
1. "What are the resolutions that are mentioned in the video " With the help of the pictures,Ss can easily say the phrases related to different kinds of resolutions.They can add some more phrases,too.
2. Consider a suitable heading for each group of phrases.(physical health,personal improvement)
3. Guide Ss to express their plans with the target language, is about…/has to do with…,be going to…/ plan to…/decide to…
4. Finish the exercise in 3b.
The purpose is to activate Ss' previous knowledge and collect useful expressions and phrases for later writing. Meanwhile, Ss' divergent thinking ability will get improved.
Step III While-writing
1.I'll create a situation: Anna has some New Year's resolutions.She just wrote down the first one.What's it Then ask Ss to finish 3a.
2. After checking the answers, I'll guide Ss to analyze the structure of 3a. Elicit from students the following conclusions:At the beginning of the writing,it explains what resolutions are.As for the body(the first resolution in pagraph2),it can be divided into 3 parts.(what,how,why).It can help Ss to construct the content schema in later writing.
3.Help Anna to finish her other three resolutions in 3c.Ss are divided into3 groups.Each group writes only one resolution and gives reasons.
The purpose is to develop Ss’writing ability and thinking ability and achieve the writing goal.
Step IV Post-writing
Choose the best writing in each group and show them on the screen.
In this part, Ss will cooperate with each other and learn from each other so that they can further their writing ability and be more confident.
Help Ss to analyze the structure of a writing.(beginning,body,ending) Add an ending to Anna's passage.
Show them a good example of personal resolutions.Encourage them to find out the useful sentence patterns and good linking words.
Summary At last, I will make a conclusion and tell them the importance of making resolutions as well as taking action.
The purpose is to help Ss develop integrated skills in learning and using English, realize emotional aims and put what Ss have learned into practice.
Step V Homework
Level 1: Finish Anna's other resolutions,you can choose either of it.
Level 2: Ask one of your family members or friends about their resolutions, and record it in the form of a video.

Part VII Teaching reflection
My lesson follows the requirements of new curriculum standard and the principle of task-based teaching approach. Ss are the centre, the task is the focus, and the teacher is a guide, organizer and participant in teaching.In this period, Ss are supposed to write a passage about personal resolutions.In order to make it easier to finish the task,I show3b first,then 3a,at last 3c. With sufficient scaffolds,students can perform the tasks step by step and express their real thoughts.Their core competences are developed,especially their thinking quality and language ability.Time permitting,more students should be encouraged to share their personal resolutions.
