Do you like to keep fit We all know that moving our bodies is good for us. Exercise benefits heart health, bone health, weight control, mood and emotional health, and much more. More and more people are taking up activities that improve their fitness. But is there a risk some of us might get obsessed (痴迷) and overdo it
While not getting enough exercise is a big issue for most people, however, for some people, fitness has become an obsession as they aim for perfection. And fitness trackers and apps can add to this addiction, especially if someone is driven by achievement and perfectionism. And sharing data on social media means exercising becomes public and competitive which could cause problems in someone who is vulnerable (易受伤) .
Experts say this can lead to a medical condition called orthorexia nervosa or addiction to ‘healthy’ eating or over-exercise. Untreated, it can lead to malnutrition (营养不良) and mental health complications. According to a BBC Worklife article: “Research from scientists at University College London in 2017 found that higher Instagram usage was associated with increased likelihood of developing orthorexia, especially among followers of the ‘healthy eating’ influencers.”
Too much exercise can also take its toll on someone’s physical health as well. Symptoms of over-exercising include injuries such as stress fractures (疲劳性骨折) , tendinitis (肌腱炎) and a low immune system. So how much exercise is too much Research by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found the ideal pace to jog was about eight kilometres per hour and that it was best to jog no more than three times a week or for 2. 5 hours in total, showing that moderate jogging is possibly more beneficial than being inactive or undertaking strenuous (费力) jogging.
If you’re more of a couch potato than a sprinter (短跑运动员) this might sound like good news. But for amateur athletes who can’t help but push their bodies to the limit, the advice from Martin Turner, a sports and exercise psychologist, is “it’s all about letting go, not being obsessed, learning not to control everything, saying, ‘You don’t need to be perfect.’ ”
While over-exercising can be problematic, the good news is that you can reverse the effects of over-exercising. “The first thing you can (and should) do is to rest,” Martin says, “If you’re still experiencing symptoms of overtraining after taking that much time off, it’s a good idea to check in with your doctor to see if you need to take more time off or if there’s any underlying problem that needs to be addressed.”
41. The author uses the underlined question in paragraph I to __________ . (no more than 6 words)
42. What kind of people are the most possible to over-exercise
A. People who are vulnerable.
B. People who are more of a couch potato.
C. People who are following healthy eating on Instagram.
D. People who always pursue excellence as amateur athletes.
43. The underlined phrase “take its toll on” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by __________.
A. damage B. promote C. improve D. affect
44. Which of the following statements may Martin Turner disagree with
A. There’s no need for amateur athletes to push their bodies to the limit.
B. Jogging more than three times a week is strenuous for amateur athletes.
C. Once getting hurt by over-exercise, there must be an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
D. People had better take time off when they experience a low immune system until complete recovery.

Something odd is happening to the tired millennial (千禧年的) workers of America. After a year spent with their computers at home, they are turning over the carefully arranged chessboards of their lives and determining to take a risk. Some are giving jobs up to launch a new business, while others are stepping off the boring work totally. Their bank accounts, fattened by a year’s stay-at-home saving. have increased their desire for risk.
If this movement has a battle cry, it is “YOLO” — “you only live once”. Stock (股票) traders use it when making irresponsible bets that sometimes pay off anyway. More broadly, it has come to refer to the attitude that has described a certain type of bored office worker in recent months.
“I didn’t feel like I knew how to do my job anyway,” said Ms. Messer, 28. So she announced her quitting.
Since then, she has been writing and keeping time for hobbies like painting and skiing. She admitted that not all people could uproot themselves so easily. “I have this renewed creative sense about what my life could look like, and how satisfying it can be,” she said.
“It feels like we have been so locked into careers for the past few years, and this is our opportunity to switch it up.” said Nate Moseley, 29, a buyer at a major clothing store. Mr. Moseley recently decided to leave his $ 130, 000-a-year job. He created an Excel file called “Late 20s Crisis”: join in a 2023 political campaign, move to Caribbean and open a tourism business. “The idea of going right back to the pre-COVID set-up sounds so unappealing after this past year,” he noted. “If not, when will I ever do this ”
However, not everyone can afford to put carefulness behind them, especially for those without enough savings. After all, they are busy with the bread-and-butter side of life. But for a growing number of people with enough savings and practical skills, the fear and the anxiety of the past year are giving way to a new kind of professional fearlessness. COVID-19 changed their priorities, and they realized they didn’t have to live like this. Adventure is in the air.
45. In paragraph 1, “something odd” refers to ____________. (no more than 10 words)
46. What is Nate Moseley’s “Late 20s Crisis” file mainly about
A. His new plans for life. B. His achievements for work.
C. His opinions on political events. D. His memory of pre-COVID life.
47. Which would be the best title for this passage
A. What Is the YOLO Economy
B. Who Is Responsible for the Sudden Adventure
C. Why Do Millennials Tend to Save Rather Than Spend
D. How Does COVID-19 Affect Millennials’ Career Choices
48. As for the changes that millennial workers of America make, the author is ____________.
A. supportive B. objective C. disapproving D. worried

You are given many opportunities in life to choose to be a victim or creator. When you choose to be a victim, the world is a cold and difficult place. ___49___ “They” are wrong and bad, and life is terrible as long as “they” are around. Or you may blame yourself for all your problems, thus internalizing (内化) your victimization. The truth is, your life is likely to stay that way as long as you feel a need to blame yourself or others.
___50___ They know there are powerful individuals and groups who might like to control their lives, but they don’t let this get in the way. They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail. ___51___ They believe their dance with each sacred (神圣的) moment of life is a gift and that storms are a natural part of life which can bring the rain needed for emotional and spiritual growth.
Victims and creators live in the same physical world and deal with many of the same physical realities, yet their experience of life is worlds apart. Victims relish (沉溺) in anger, guilt, and other emotions and behaviors that cause others— and even themselves— to feel like victims, too. Creators consciously choose love, inspiration, and other qualities which inspire not only themselves, but all around them. ___52___
In reality, all of us play the victim or the creator at different points in our lives. Yet few people realize just how much choice we have in which role we play at any given time. One person, on losing a job or a special relationship, may feel as if it is the end of the world and sink into terrible suffering for months, years, or even a lifetime. ___53___ He may choose to first experience the grief, then accept the loss and soon move on to be a powerful creative force in his life.
In every moment and every circumstance, you can choose to create your own destiny and have fuller, richer life by setting a clear intention to transform the victim within, and by inviting into your life the powerful creator that you are.
A. Whatever happens, they have choice in the matter.
B. One’s experiences determine his attitude toward life.
C. Compared with victims, creators are more emotional.
D. Those who choose to be creators look at life quite differently.
E. Another with the same experience may choose to be a creator.
F. “They” did things to you which caused all of your pain and suffering.
G. Both victims and creators always have choice to determine the direction of their lives.
Sports like baseball and football have been called America’s pastimes, but many children are seeking alternative ways of being active.
According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) , participation in traditional sports for youth has been declining. Some reasons include early-age specialization, the intense level of competition and the risk of injury. “Many kids as well as their parents are tuned off by the seriousness of youth sports in America,” said SFIA president Tom Cove. “Sometimes we lose the most essential element of sports: fun.” Nontraditional sports options, like parkour, ninja warrior classes and rock climbing, can be more casual and allow kids to be kids.
Whether trying to clear an obstacle or navigate a course, children are in control in sports like climbing or mountain biking. They make connections between their bodies and minds. It is easier for them to set their own goals and track their own progress. “Sports like climbing, cycling and running allow a child to focus on making one move at a time to achieve a longer goal,” said Dr. Michelle Flowers, who studies the minds of athletes. “Successes are much more defined by personal growth than winning or victory over another,” said Flowers.
Individual sports still can offer the positives that come from team sports. It is now generally admitted that part of being successful is having to be social. When working on a climb on the wall, kids can talk to other climbers about how they tackled it and encourage each other. When going out for a ride with a group of kids, they can talk about the trail and about life.
Lifelong participation is another benefit to these nontraditional sports. As the founder of Little Bellas mountain bike camps for girls 7 to 18, Sabra Davison saw firsthand the gap that happens in sports when girls get older or get injured and team sports end. Davison says people can do nontraditional sports for longer. The physical benefits of balance, strength and agility can be generalized to multiple activities, including everyday adventures like going to the park or climbing trees.
Some kids are looking for ways of staying active between sports seasons, while others want to enjoy exercise without the stress of competition. “We see a pretty strong diversity in the number of children that have participated in other sports before trying climbing and those that have not,” said Cove. “The kids that have tried other sports tend to like the crossover training appeal of climbing and think it’s fun, while parents tend to promote climbing for their children due to its mental, physical and even cognitive problem-solving nature.”
As the interest in more individualized sports has been growing in the past few years, like climbing, karate, golf, skiing, skateboarding and surfing, kids can look beyond ball and field sports. Whatever activity they participate in, it can have a long-term positive impact on their mental and physical health.

And sharing data on social media means exercising becomes public and competitive which could cause problems in someone who is vulnerable
Experts say this can lead to a medical condition called orthorexia nervosa, or addiction to ‘healthy’ eating or over-exercise.
41. introduce the topic 42. D 43. A 44. C
根据第一段“Do you like to keep fit We all know that moving our bodies is good for us. Exercise benefits heart health, bone health, weight control, mood and emotional health, and much more. More and more people are taking up activities that improve their fitness. But is there a risk some of us might get obsessed (痴迷) and overdo it (你喜欢健身吗 我们都知道运动身体对我们有好处。运动有益于心脏健康、骨骼健康、体重控制、情绪和情绪健康等等。越来越多的人开始从事增进健康的活动。但是,我们中的一些人是否有可能沉迷于此并做得过火呢 )”以及后文介绍过度健身会对健康有害推知,所以作者使用带下划线的问题是为了引出主题。故填introduce the topic。
推理判断题,根据第二段“While not getting enough exercise is a big issue for most people, however, for some people, fitness has become an obsession as they aim for perfection. And fitness trackers and apps can add to this addiction. especially if someone is driven by achievement and perfectionism.(虽然对大多数人来说,没有得到足够的锻炼是一个大问题,但对一些人来说,健身已经成为一种痴迷,因为他们追求完美。健身追踪器和应用程序会加剧这种上瘾。尤其是那些被成就和完美主义驱使的人)”以及倒数第二段“If you’re more of a couch potato than a sprinter (短跑运动员) this might sound like good news. But for amateur athletes who can’t help but push their bodies to the limit, the advice from Martin Turner, a sports and exercise psychologist, is. “it’s all about letting go, not being obsessed, learning not to control everything, saying, ‘You don’t need to be perfect.’ ”(如果你更喜欢看电视,而不是短跑运动员,这听起来可能是个好消息。但对于那些忍不住要把自己的身体推向极限的业余运动员来说,运动和运动心理学家马丁·特纳(Martin Turner)的建议是:“这一切都是关于放手,不要迷恋,学会不控制一切,说,‘你不需要完美。’”)”可推知,作为业余运动员追求卓越的人最有可能过度锻炼。故选D项。
【43题详解】
词句猜测题。根据后文“Symptoms of over-exercising include injuries such as stress fractures (疲劳性骨折) , tendinitis (肌腱炎) and a low immune system.(过度运动的症状包括应力性骨折、肌腱炎和免疫系统低下等损伤)”可知,过多的运动也会对人的身体健康造成损害,所以推知take its toll on应是“损害”之意,和A项意思相近。故选A项。
根据最后一段“While over-exercising can be problematic. the good news is that you can reverse the effects of over-exercising. “The first thing you can (and should) do is to rest,” Martin says, “If you’re still experiencing symptoms of overtraining after taking that much time off, it’s a good idea to check in with your doctor to see if you need to take more time off or if there’s any underlying problem that needs to be addressed.”(虽然过度锻炼可能会有问题。

46 What is Nate Moseley’s “Late 20s Crisis” file mainly about
A. His new plans for life. B. His achievements for work.
C. His opinions on political events. D. His memory of pre-COVID life.
47. Which would be the best title for this passage
A. What Is the YOLO Economy
B. Who Is Responsible for the Sudden Adventure
C. Why Do Millennials Tend to Save Rather Than Spend
D. How Does COVID-19 Affect Millennials’ Career Choices
48. As for the changes that millennial workers of America make, the author is ____________.
A. supportive B. objective C. disapproving D. worried
45. Millennial workers are taking more risks. 46. A 47. D 48. B

根据第一段中“Something odd is happening to the tired millennial(千禧年的)workers of America. After a year spent with their computers at home, they are turning over the carefully arranged chessboards of their lives and determining to take a risk. Some are giving jobs up to launch a new business, while others are stepping off the boring work totally.(疲惫的美国千禧一代员工身上发生了一些奇怪的事情。在家里和电脑旁呆了一年之后,他们正在打翻自己精心安排的人生棋盘,决定冒一次险。一些人放弃工作去创业,而另一些人则完全放弃了枯燥的工作)”可知,美国千禧一代的员工在做的奇怪事情是指他们决定在自己的工作规划上去冒更多的风险。故答案为Millennial workers are taking more risks.
根据第四段中“He created an Excel file called “Late 20s Crisis”: join in a 2023 political campaign, move to Caribbean and open a tourism business. (他创建了一个名为“20多岁的危机”的Excel文件,里面装满了他下一步可能的选择:参加2023年的政治竞选,搬到加勒比海,开一家旅游公司)”可知,Nate Moseley的“20多岁的危机”文件主要记录的是他对生活的新计划。故选A。
通读全文,结合第一段中“Something odd is happening to the tired millennial(千禧年的)workers of America. After a year spent with their computers at home, they are turning over the carefully arranged chessboards of their lives and determining to take a risk.(疲惫的美国千禧一代工人身上发生了一些奇怪的事情。在家里和电脑旁呆了一年之后,他们正在打翻自己精心安排的人生棋盘,决定冒一次险)”和第二段中“If this movement has a battle cry, it is “YOLO” — “you only live once”. (COVID-19改变了他们的优先事项,他们意识到他们不必这样生活。冒险即将到来)”可推知,本文主要报道了疫情改变了美国千禧一代员工对工作的态度,他们意识到不必再这样生活,更愿意去冒一次险。所以D项“How does COVID-19 affect Millennials’ career choices (COVID-19如何影响千禧一代的职业选择 )”是本文讲的主要内容。故选D。
【48题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“However, not everyone can afford to put carefulness behind them, especially for those without enough savings. (然而,并不是每个人都有能力把谨慎抛在脑后,尤其是那些没有足够积蓄的人。毕竟,他们忙于生活的面包和黄油的一面。但对于越来越多拥有足够积蓄和实用技能的人来说,过去一年的恐惧和焦虑正在让位于一种新的职业无畏。COVID-19改变了他们的优先事项,他们意识到他们不必这样生活。冒险就流行开来。)”可推断,作者对千禧一代的这种变化是客观的。故选B。

F 50. D 51. A 52. G 53. E
根据前文“When you choose to be a victim, the world is a cold and difficult place.(当你选择成为受害者时,这个世界是一个冷酷而艰难的地方)”以及后文““They” are wrong and bad, and life is terrible as long as “they” are around. (“他们”是错误的,坏的,只要“他们”在身边,生活就很可怕)”可知,此处讲述了“他们”对你的影响,所以F项““They” did things to you which caused all of your pain and suffering.(“他们”对你做了一些事,造成了你所有的痛苦和折磨)”符合主题,其中“They”为同构复现。故选F项。
分析设空,位于段首,为本段的中心句,根据后文“They know there are powerful individuals and groups who might like to control their lives, but they don’t let this get in the way. They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail.(他们知道有强大的个人和团体可能想要控制他们的生活,但他们不会让这些成为阻碍。他们知道自己有弱点,但失败时也不会自责)”可知,此处和上文受害者的看法相反,所以本段讲述的是创造者的看法,所以D项“Those who choose to be creators look at life quite differently.(那些选择成为创造者的人对生活的看法截然不同)”符合本段主题,为本段中心句。故选D项。
【51题详解】
根据前文“They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail.(他们知道自己有弱点,但失败时也不会自责)”以及后文“They believe their dance with each sacred (神圣的) moment of life is a gift and that storms are a natural part of life which can bring the rain needed for emotional and spiritual growth.(他们相信他们与生命中每一个神圣时刻的舞蹈都是一份礼物,暴风雨是生命中自然的一部分,可以带来情感和精神成长所需的雨水)”可知,此处具体讲述了成为创造者的人对生活的看法,所以A项“Whatever happens, they have choice in the matter.(无论发生什么事,他们都有选择权)”符合本段主题。故选A项。
分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Victims and creators live in the same physical world and deal with many of the same physical realities, yet their experience of life is worlds apart. Victims relish (沉溺) in anger, guilt, and other emotions and behaviors that cause others— and even themselves— to feel like victims, too. Creators consciously choose love, inspiration, and other qualities which inspire not only themselves, but all around them.(受害者和创造者生活在同一个物质世界,面对许多相同的物质现实,但他们的生活经历却截然不同。
根据前文“One person, on losing a job or a special relationship, may feel as if it is the end of the world and sink into terrible suffering for months, years, or even a lifetime.(一个人,在失去一份工作或一段特殊的关系时,可能会觉得好像是世界末日,陷入几个月、几年甚至一生的可怕痛苦中)”以及后文“He may choose to first experience the grief, then accept the loss and soon move on to be a powerful creative force in his life.(他可能会选择先经历悲伤,然后接受损失,很快就会成为他生命中强大的创造力)”可知,空处是一个过渡句,由受害者的看法过渡到创造者的看法,所以E项“Another with the same experience may choose to be a creator.(另一个有同样经历的人可能会选择成为创造者)”符合文意,顺接上文,并引出下文,起到过渡作用。
