Dear editors,
Hearing that you are looking for some opinions on “What children should learn most”, I feel honored to be able to share my views with you.
Personally speaking, I’m strongly against the idea that children should spend all of their spare time learning playing the piano, English or any other subjects. As far as I’m concerned, children should first equip them with the ability to tell right from wrong.
When I was a child, I was once caught cheating in the exam. I felt so embarrassed that I wished the floor would open up. To my surprise, my teacher didn’t yell at me but had a talk with me in private. From the private talk I gained a lesson that I should never take a wrong shortcut even though I am eager to succeed.
Nowadays children are often told that they should achieve their goals whatever they do, which leads them to wrong ways sometimes. Hence, learning how to tell right from wrong is the first and most important thing children should learn.
Thank you for taking time to read my letter. I hope my opinions will be a different voice among all the letters received.
Yours sincerely,
Wang Lei

【参考范文】
Finally, at 9 :30 PM on Christmas Eve, I decided to try one last time. By then, I really didn’t worry about calling at a late hour. I was so used to no answer after many attempts that I was startled(震惊的)to hear a response. Amazingly, Jace answered the phone! Soon, I explained the story to Jace and told him how his classmates really wanted to do this for him. I spoke with his father and the next thing I knew, I was driving to Jace’s home.
As I drove down the road to Jace’s house, I saw the porch light of his father’s trailer(拖车式房屋)signaling which home was his. I was thrilled to see Jace. We filled the room with all of the carefully wrapped gifts that were especially for him. He was so surprised and grateful. Jace’s joyful smile that evening lit up the sky like a strand of twinkle lights. I went to sleep that night thinking about Jace’s joy and my thoughtful students. With a smile of my own,I was thankful to be a part of one of the most important “lessons” of their lives.

On Sunday morning in Rio, when Chinese women’s volleyball team took on Serbia for the Olympic title, 70 percent of Chinese families watched live broadcast on TV, easily beating the audience rating for Lunar New Year Gala. As team captain Hui Ruoqi hit a powerful spike to seal it 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 on Sunday morning in Rio, applause and cheers almost blew off the roof of Maracanazinho. China’s news program Xinwen Lianbo spent seven of 30 minutes reliving the story. This is their third Olympic gold medal the Chinese women’s volleyball team has won since the 1980s.
In Rio, the Chinese women’s volleyball team was assigned to the so-called group of death and faced several strong competitors. But the team never gave up. When the team lost its Rio Olympic opener to the Netherlands on Aug 6, Lang Ping urged her players to support one another through the ups and downs. When China lost to Serbia and the United States, finishing fourth to get a narrow escape from Group B and had to face host Brazil in the quarters, Lang Ping helped her players grow from each defeat on the pressure-packed Olympic stage.
Lang Ping, nicknamed “Iron Hammer”, is a national heroine as well as a legend in world sports. She made histories in coaching many clubs and national teams to top level. She resigned due to health reasons in 1998. However, when the Chinese women’s volleyball faced difficulties after the Beijing Olympics, the 52-year-old lady came back in 2013 and took the coaching position. She dug out a group of young talents including Rio 2016 MVP Zhu Ting to help seasoned players Hui Ruoqi and Xu Yunli. But more importantly, she passed on the spirit to them.
Among all the Chinese sports teams, the women’s volleyball remain the most special one, whose victories fueled Chinese confidence in the 1980s and still represent the best things that sports can offer to the Chinese: perseverance, courage and unity.
24.What can we learn from Paragraph 1

C.The roof of Maracanazinho was blown off by the excited audience.

A.the team beat the Netherlands on Aug 6

D.after the Rio Olympic opener, the team experienced non-stop victories
26.Who does the underline word “she” in Paragraph 3 refer to

Look out the window or walk over to a patch of soil near your home. It could be reddish brown, black, dark gray or even the colour of rich, dark chocolate. If it’s moist enough, run your hands through it. It may separate into thick clumps that can hold water and later release it. With a few exceptions—such as desert sites—this is how good soil behaves.
In fact, the number of microscopic organisms that live in a shovelful of rich garden soil exceeds the number of plants and animals inhabiting the entire aboveground Amazon rainforest. And the Amazon is known for having more plants and animals than any other land-based habitat.
Soil is what supports life on Earth. Most people give it little thought, but it feeds us and the ecosystems around us. It is where countless species make their homes. It collects water, pulls pollutants from the air and helps support the planet’s atmosphere. Soil is one of Mother Nature’s unsung heroes.
And while most soil looks like it’s static, just sitting there unmoving, it actually hosts plenty of activities. Its earthworms may be digging tunnels. Worms are weightlifters. But they aren’t the only ones making changes. Other creatures below ground are too tiny to see with the unaided eye. These include one celled creatures called protozoa (单细胞生物). They improve soil by eating bacteria and releasing nitrogen, which helps plants grow.
And then there are all those bacteria. Most people think of them as dangerous. In soils, they not only serve as prey to beneficial protozoa, but also perform an environmental service. They help recycle dead plant parts and animal tissues into nutrients. They even turn some pollutants in soil and water into more of the nutrients that can sustain the diverse species that make up lively ecosystems beneath our feet.
28.What’s the purpose of mentioning the Amazon rainforest in the second paragraph
A.To indicate the rich species in the Amazon rainforest.
B.To introduce the rich soil in the Amazon rainforest.
C.To stress the variety of microscopic organisms in the rich soil.
D.To illustrate biodiversity aboveground the Amazon rainforest.
29.What can we infer from the third paragraph
A.Soil is something that supports life on Earth.
B.Soil provides a variety of benefits to our planet.
C.Soil determines the quality of our ecosystems.
D.Soil is the Mother Nature’s unsung hero.
30.Which of the following sentences is TRUE according to the text
A.The soil in the desert behaves as well as good soil does.
B.Most people give thought to soil for it supports life on Earth.
C.Most soil indeed hosts plenty of activities though it looks quiet.
D.The bacteria in soils almost do no good to the environment.
31.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text
A.Categories of the Soil on Earth B.The Disappearance of the Rich Soil
C.Biodiversity in the Amazon Rainforest D.Healthy Soil Supports Life on Our Planet
【答案】28.C 29.B 30.C 31.D

Whether in the home or the workplace, social robots are going to become more common in the next few years. Social robots are about to bring technology to the everyday world in a more humanized way, said Cynthia Breazeal, chief scientist at the robot company Jibo.
While household robots today do the normal housework, social robots will be much more like partners than tools. For example, these robots will be able to tell when someone is happy or sad. This allows them to respond more properly to the user.
The Jibo robot, arranged to ship later this year, is designed to be a personalized assistant. You can talk to the robot, ask it questions, and make requests for it to perform different tasks. The robot doesn’t just give general answers to questions; it responds based on what it learns about each person in the household. It can do things such as reminding an elderly family member to take medicine or taking family photos.
Social robots are not just finding their way into the home. They have potential(潜在的) applications in everything from education to health care and are already finding their way into some of these areas.
Fellow Robots is one company bringing social robots to the market. The company’s “Oshbot” robot is built to assist customers in a store, which can help the customers find items and help guide them to the product’s location in the store. It can also speak different languages and make recommendations for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.
The more interaction the robot has with humans, the more it learns. But Oshbot, like other social robots, is not aimed to replace workers, but to work together with other employees. “We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us,” said Breazeal.
32.How are social robots different from household robots
A.They can control their feelings.
B.They are more like humans.
C.They do the normal housework .
D.They respond to users more slowly.
33.What can a Jibo robot do according to Paragraph 3
A.Communicate with you and put on performances.
B.Answer your questions and make requests.
C.Take your family pictures and deliver milk.
D.Obey your orders and remind you to take pills.
34.We can learn from the last paragraph that social robots will ______.
A.be our workmates
B.train employees
C.improve technologies
D.take the place of workers
35.The underlined word“recommendations”in Paragraph 5 can be replaced by_______.
A.suggestions B.commands C.expressions D.bargains

34.细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us”可知,我们有技术训练社交机器人不是为我们做事情而是和我们一起工作,成为我们的同事,故A项正确。
35.词义猜测题。根据画线词后的“for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.”
Math causes anxiety for kids. It is worsened by the pressure of knowing that math is the gatekeeper to science and technology that drive our society.
When our kids ask why they need to know algebra, we tell them that it will be useful. 36 Humans like the practical, but we know that there is much more to life. As Aristotle said, knowledge begins with wonder. but what wonder is there in algebra or calculus (微积分) Not much. No wonder math creates boredom (无聊). Yet they are the cornerstone of math education. Therefore, math causes anxiety.
37 Do what mathematicians do and seek out unexplored, unknown, undiscovered math.
Regrettably, the mathematical journey is imagined as a terrifying mountain: The wide base is arithmetic, accessible to everyone. Climbing higher brings us to algebra, geometry, and eventually calculus and beyond. 38
In reality, math is alive and still advancing, and most of it remains a vast and unexplored countryside. 39 Many of them are accessible for our kids.
Here’s one: Can every even number be written as a sum of two prime numbers (质数) Even numbers such as 8 and 30 can be written as 3+5 and 7+23. 40 No one has proved it yet.
As our kids try to solve this kind of problems, an encouraging truth will appear in their anxious hearts: It’s OK to struggle with math since everyone does. These unsolved puzzles make us realize that we are on the same level as the great mathematicians, all of us staring over the unknown abyss (深渊), looking for a way down into the mystery.
A.Girls can do as well as boys in math.
B.But can this be done for every even number
C.But do we listen to jazz because it is useful
D.Happily, unlocking the pleasure of math is simple.
E.But do they really understand the importance of math
F.We believe that new math ideas have been nearly exhausted.
G.Fresh ideas are constantly being discovered, opening up new and fascinating puzzles.

Yours sincerely,
Wang Lei

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下而材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I’ll never forget the day that one of my fifth-grade students, Jace, shyly raised his hand and said that he had never received a gift during reading discussions. Jace’s honesty surprised me. What was even more eye-opening was the fact that the boy had gone ten years and never experienced the joy and surprise of receiving a present.
I tried to search a reason that he might be saying this. Then I remembered his story. His mother was out of the picture and he lived alone with his dad. His father had a hard time holding down a job, and come to think of it. I didn’t see his father at enrollment(注册)or parent-teacher conferences.
A couple of weeks after Jace’s comment, he was absent from school. This happened to be the day I was sending home the annual note about the classroom Christmas gift exchange. Traditionally, each boy was to bring a gift for a boy in the three-dollar range and the same was true for each girl.
As we were discussing the specifics, a girl raised her hand and suggested that we do away with our traditional policy, and each buy a gift for Jace instead. The enthusiasm grew as the students discussed the kinds of things they knew Jace would like. We took a quick vote and unanimously(意见一致地)agreed to go ahead with this wonderful idea.
With great excitement, the gifts began to come in. Students with bright eyes would eagerly tell me how they found the “perfect gift” and how their parents spent more than three dollars on Jace’s gift! As the gifts poured in, I remember being so proud of my thoughtful, selfless students who were truly showing the spirit of Christmas.
After several days of absences, you can imagine our disappointment when we learned that Jace’s absences were due to the fact that he had moved away! I was sure of one thing. I couldn’t let my students or Jace down.
I found my information sheet and called every number listed. Apparently, Jace’s father had lost his job, causing them to relocate. No one knew where they were, and the cell phone number I had would ring with no response despite my continuous efforts. Even into our Christmas vacation, I constantly gave the phone number a shot.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, at 9:30 PM on Christmas Eve, I decided to try one last time.

As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." It is strongly recommended that everyone, after work, consider relaxing in the park. Here are some fantastic parks in San Antonio.
Brackenridge Park
The park was first established in 1899 and has been popular with both locals and visitors ever since. Towering trees and peaceful riverbanks will greet guests along the park’s paths, and the facilities include playgrounds, museums, a miniature train, a Japanese tea garden, and one of the oldest golf courses in the city.
Friedrich Wilderness Park
In the park, you’ll find about 10 miles of paved(铺过的)and unpaved trails(路线), with a little something for everyone. From rocky climbs to deep canyons, and enchanting forests to open views, there’s no shortage of natural beauty. The area is nationally famous for birdwatching.
San Antonio Missions National Historical Park
The park is the state’s only one on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers quite a large area, so it’s best to make it a full-day or at least a half-day trip so you can be sure to cover everything. While the Alamo is a separate attraction, you will get to enjoy the architectural wonders of Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. They’re all connected by a hike and bike trail, with plenty of stops along the way to picnic, climb trees, and refill water. Admission is free!
Eisenhower Park
Just a 20-to 30-minute drive from the city center, the park puts the best landscapes in the Texas Hill Country on full display, holding 6 miles of hiking trails, both paved and unpaved.

35.The underlined word “recommendations” in Paragraph 5 can be replaced by_______.
A.suggestions B.commands C.expressions D.bargains
