教材分析：
From Problems to Solutions是一篇记叙文，作者按照时间顺序阐述了问题的产生和解决过程。在信息层面，文章第一部分引出主题：Big challenges can sometimes lead to great solutions；第二部分讲了埃及如何解决建阿斯旺大坝和文物保护之间的矛盾；第三部分讲了解决问题中合作的重要性。本文脉络清晰，结构清楚。
因此在教学设计中围绕不 prblems和solutions两个关键词展开。引导学生借助问题引导，寻求答案，联系实际。
教学目标：
1.Enable students to understand the main information and text structure of the reading text；2.Motivate students to use the reading strategy"make a timeline"according to the appropriate text genre；
3.Enable students to understand how a problem was solved；
4.Enable students to understand the value of protecting cultural heritage by teamwork and global community：
教学重难点：
1.Guide students to pay attention to reading strategies，such as prediction，self-questioning and scanning.
2.Help students sort out the topic language about protecting cultural relics and understand the narrative characteristics of"time-event"in illustrative style

教学过程
Step1 Lead-in
1. Watch a video about Temple of Nubis in Egypt.
2. Review some key words in this period.
设计意图
激活背景信息，引起学生的阅读兴趣。
Step2 Pre-reading
1. Introduce relevant background knowledge about the Aswan Dam ，the Nile and Egypt.
2. Require students to predict the content of the text through questioning and illustrations.
Question: how to keep a balance between developing tourism and protecting sites.
设计意图
领引学生借助标题和插图提示，预测大坝修建过程中可能会遇到的问题。该步骤旨在让学生找到埃及政府面临的problem是什么，提取文章表层信息。

1. Fast reading tasks
1) Read quickly and figure out the key words of each paragraph.

2. Careful reading tasks
1)Problems:
What problems are mentioned in the text
2)Solution:
Draw a mind map to show your understanding of how the problems were solved.
How were the temples saved
3)Significance:
Q1: Why is the Aswan Dam a great success
Q2: What is the spirit of the Aswan Dam project
3. Detailed reading
Divide the passage into three parts and get the main idea of each part.
Part 1 (Paragraph 1) The introduction of the topic
Keeping the right balance between progress and the protection of cultural sites is a big challenge.
Part 2 (Paragraphs 2-5) The process of saving cultural relics
Part 3 (Paragraph 6)The summary of the text
The global community can sometimes provide a solution to a difficult problem for a single nation.
设计意图
Fast reading tasks处理了文章的基本信息提取Careful reading tasks聚焦作者的写作目的，引导学生找到文章的main idea，即Big challenges can sometimes lead to great solutions。处理第1段和第6段main idea，锻炼学生的文本归纳能力, 培养学生的语篇建构意识。
Step3 Post-reading
Critical thinking:
1. How to deal with the construction and the protection of cultural relics
2. As students, what should we do to protect our cultural relics
设计意图
引导学生展开讨论，让学生意识到阿斯旺大坝工程的艰巨，而思考文化遗产保护的意义。

Complete the structure of the whole text
设计意图
此环节采用学生主动构建信息结构图的活动方式，鼓励学生依据自己对文本信息和信息之间的逻辑关系理解梳理和呈现信息。

教学反思
本节课优点：教学内容完成，实现了既定的教学目标，学生在思考和输出的环节有参与互动和分享。
本节课缺点：学生没有充分调动起来，学习困难学生害怕提问，对老师的问题反应不够积极。
本节课需要完善的地方：关注学习有困难的或性格内向的学生，尽可能的为他们创造语言的机会。
