maybe a bit odd (奇怪的). But the researchers who answered them were
all winners of the Ig Nobel Prizes. The Ig Nobels were first awarded in
1991. The prizes are given for 10 unusual achievements each year. They
were created in order to honor achievements that first make people laugh,

a special scent. The scent stayed inside the gasses even after the fly had left. After smelling the glasses, wine testers said that the wine inside tasted “somewhat unpleasant” .

Do you look like your parents What genetic traits (遗传特性) did your parents pass on to you Was it their eye color or their height It could be their sense of humor or their musical talent. Or maybe it was their fear of mathematics.
A research at Ohio State University in the US has found that genetics are partly responsible for children’s math skills and anxiety about math.
Scientists studied over 500 sets of twins to find out how genetic affect math anxiety. Over a period of 10 years, the twins completed math tests and filled out surveys about their levels of math anxiety. They found that fraternal twins (twins with different genetics) had different levels of skill and anxiety about math. Identical twins (twins with the same gene set) have similar levels.
This shows that people’s fear of math is partially affected by their genetic makeup Math anxiety has a strong effect on a child’s abilities. University of Chicago found math anxiety can cause the same feeling as being physically hurt.
This anxiety means that some students are not willing to study math as much as they should. Therefore, they become even worse at math and less confident in their skill. This only adds to their fear.
But if you’re bad at math, don’t try to blame (责怪) it on your parents. The environment, including school and family, is also part of the equation
68. The underlined word “anxiety” in Paragraph 2 refers to a/an feeling.
A. unhappy B. curious C. relaxing D. crazy
69. What did the researchers at Ohio State University find
A. Parents can pass their eye color on to their children.
B. Children’s math skills are determined by their parents.
C. Math anxiety has something to do with genetics.
D. Fear of math is very common among twins.
70. What do we know from the story
A. People are born with math anxiety.
B. There is noway to deal with math anxiety.
C. Parents should learn math well themselves.
D. Genetics is not the only cause for math anxiety.
71. According to the passage, what are responsible for children’s math anxiety
A. Genetics. B. The environment. C. School and family. D. All the above.
72. Which of the following is TRUE
A. Math anxiety is the same as being physically hurt.
B. The feeling caused by math anxiety is not different from that of being physically hurt.
C. People’s fear of math is totally affected by their genetic makeup.
D. Fraternal twins have the same genetics.

The world is getting bigger, or at least fatter. Recent studies show that more and more people are living an unhealthy life. 73 Sofa potatoes are people who spend too much time in front of the TV and eat too much junk food. Now, there is also a new kind of people, namely “mouse potato” . 74 Why are we becoming potatoes
75 We don’t have as much time to prepare and eat food as we used to. Fast food restaurants are everywhere, and supermarket shelves are filled with ready-made or prepared dishes. 76 But they make it more difficult for us to control what we eat .
77 In this way, we will be healthier and have more energy to enjoy the good things in life. A healthy diet should give us the calories we need but not contain too much fat and sugar. A balanced diet with exercise is the recipe for a healthy life. And remember, it is better to eat a potato than to be one.
A. Of course, not all of these are bad for us. B. We are becoming sofa potatoes. C. We can’t eat junk food. D. We should choose the delicious food. E.
As a person, we easily find that we can’t choose many things. We can’t choose our parents or the things happening around us. And this can make our lives 29 and more stessful But we can 30 one thing: who our friends are.
Having friends is 31 . First, they make life more enjoyable. We can 32 happy things with them. Friends enrich (丰富) our everyday lives and we enrich 33 too. Second, friends help us go through the 34 times. When we are going through a tough (艰难的) time, a friend can 35 give us help. And that can make bad things in our life 36 much easier.
So where do we find friends This might sound a stupid 37 , but finding friends is not an easy thing! If you want to 38 find some friends, try to join in the groups or activities you truly enjoy. This way you can easily meet people with 39 interests. And once you’re there, ask for their contact 40 and followup with them. It may feel scary at first 41 , the result maybe a big surprise for you.
Like anything in life, we must put time, energy and love into friendships. It’s 42 to learn how to keep a friendship. True friendships touch our 43 and give us hope. Maybe you have had beautiful friendships in your life, but if you haven’t, it’s never too late to make new friends.
29. A. more boring B. more beautiful C. harder D. poorer
Answer: C
30. A. move B. wait C. turn D. decide
Answer: D
But 前讲到 We can’t choose …; 那么 But 后一定是与 We can’t choose …

Do you look like your parents What genetic traits (遗传特性) did your parents pass on to you Was it their eye color or their height It could be their sense of humor or their musical talent. Or maybe it was their fear of mathematics
A research at Ohio State University in the US has found that genetics are partly responsible for children’s math skills and anxiety about math (这里其实又重复了第一自然段的内容, anxiety about math 其实就是第一自然段中的 fear of mathematics, frear 是害怕、 恐惧的意思。
be responsible for … “是由于 …, 是因为 … ”表示因果逻辑
be partly responsible for … “部分是由于 …, 是因为 …”
Scientists studied over 500 sets of twins to find out how genetic affect math anxiety. Over a period of 10 years, the twins completed math tests and filled out surveys about their levels of math anxiety. They found that fraternal twins (twins with different genetics [72D.]) had different levels of skill and anxiety about math.
[这句话也可以解答第 68 题] Therefore, they become even worse at math and less confident in their skill. This only adds to their fear.
