Do you think your school could be the greenest school in the country If so, the IC Bus Company wants to hear about it. The company has started a nationwide competition to find America’s most eco-friendly school around the country, and they need everyone’s help. Students, parents and teachers from around the country are invited to present a 500-word essay on the subject. The essay explains the actions that their schools have taken to help protect the planet, such as organizing an in-school recycling program, planting a garden and even turning off the lights in an empty classroom. These are all ways in which you and your classmates can be green. The organizers hope that the contest will encourage children and adults to think about how they can help save the earth. The winning school will also receive a hybrid school bus from IC Bus and some money for school materials. The bus creates less pollution than ordinary cars and buses.

56.细节理解题。根据第二段中“When we first learned basic grammar and spelling, perhaps in elementary school, we might have gotten the impression that these things were sacred(神圣的). The rules that apply to such things might have been presented as unchanging and unchangeable.(当我们第一次学习基本的语法和拼写时,也许是在小学,我们可能会有这样的印象,这些东西是神圣的。适用于这些事情的规则可能被描述为不变的和不可改变的)”可知,当我们开始学习英语时,我们认为语法和拼写规则是不可改变的。故选C。
57.词句猜测题。根据划线词前一句“The rules that apply to such things might have been presented as unchanging and unchangeable.”(适用于这些事情的规则可能被描述为不变的和不可改变的。)可知,语法和拼写的规则是不变的,不可改变的。划线词所在句“While this way might be helpful for teaching children, it is far from accurate.”(虽然这种方法可能有助于教育孩子,但它远远不够accurate。)可知,学习语法和拼写的规则的方法可能有助于教育孩子,但是远远不够。即这个方法在每个细节上并非是正确的。可推知,划线词此处的含义为“准确,正确”,故选A。

64.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“My son spends most of his time indoors. But I do want him to know more about the world and experience new places. I hope this product will bring something different to his life.(我儿子大部分时间都呆在家里。但我确实想让他更多地了解这个世界,体验新的地方。我希望这个产品能给他的生活带来一些不同的东西。)”可知,对于自闭症儿童来说,虚拟现实头盔是非常有用的,自闭症儿童的父母也希望自己的孩子能在家里通过这种头盔来了解不一样的世界,由此可推断,作为父母,他们是非常欢迎这种头盔的。故选D项。

The English language is changing, and you are responsible! Whether we consider changes in grammar, spelling, pronunciation, or the very vocabulary of the language, you have played your part and continue to do so.
When we first learned basic grammar and spelling, perhaps in elementary school, we might have gotten the impression that these things were sacred (神圣的). The rules that apply to such things might have been presented as unchanging and unchangeable. While this way might be helpful for teaching children, it is far from accurate.
The English language, like many others, is a living, growing, ever-evolving (演变) thing. Like it or not, you are involved in this change. These changes take many forms. Grammar and spelling have changed greatly over the years and centuries, with the spelling differences in different countries today a reflection of this. While the language of a thousand years ago might be called English, most of us would hardly recognize it today as the same language.
The first involves changes in the pronunciation of words. Many are familiar with the differences between the British and American ways of pronouncing certain words. In addition to these differences, the pronunciation of many words has changed over the years because of how you have decided to pronounce them. For example, consider the word “err.” The traditional pronunciation of this word rhymes with the word “her.” Older dictionaries show this to be the primary or only pronunciation. However, in recent years, more and more people have been pronouncing it so that it sounds like “air.” Another change in the language involves the addition and removal of words. The makers of dictionaries decide which words deserve to be officially adopted as part of the English language. Through the centuries, many words have come from other languages. In fact, English has probably done this more than any other language in the world, which is why spelling and pronunciation rules for English have so many exceptions.
Of course, many slang words (俚语) have been just short-lived fashions that have died out quickly. Others, though, have been adopted by main stream society and become respectable, as have many technical terms. So then remember, the next time you repeat the newest expression to hit the street, or make up your own words, you may be contributing to the future of the English language.
56.When we begin to learn English, we think ______.
A.it is interesting to pick up a new language
B.English rules are wrongly presented in fact
C.grammar and speiling rules are unchangeable
D.only adults have the ability to affect a language
57.The underlined word “accurate” in Paragraph 2 means ______ in every detail.
A.correct B.wrong C.different D.similar

A.we can change the English language
B.many languages are changing over years
C.English has changed little in the past 1,000 years
D.there were main changes in grammar and pronunciation
59.Why is the pronunciation of words changing
A.Because people choose the way to pronounce them.
B.Because those words are too difficult to pronounce.
C.Because the spellings of words change.
D.Because technology develops greatly in modern society.
60.Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.Foreign words involved in English. B.Slang words reshape the English world.
C.English language is changeable. D.British speaks differently from Americans.
C
Prior’s Court is a school in Berkshire, southern England. The school is for children with autism(自闭症). It cares for around 95 children with more severe signs of autism. Some cannot speak or communicate their needs.
The school is now finding a new use for virtual reality, or VR headsets. Virtual reality is a technology that lets you step inside a computer-created 3D world. You can explore and sometimes even manipulate(操纵) objects in that world. People with autism may find it hard to deal with places and situations they have not experienced before. VR headsets make the wearer feel they are in a different place. For example, someone wearing a VR headset can have a 360-degree view of a place as they turn around. With video, they can even hear the sounds of the place. Teachers at Prior’s Court decide to use VR to introduce children to situations like visiting a shopping mall, getting on a plane or skiing.
Nuno Guerreiro is a computing teacher at Prior’s Court School. He said, “Our children have difficulties with sensory(感觉的)issues so they dread going to very busy places. They like what they are familiar with; they like their routine. ” The school officials hope the VR experiences will help children feel better about changes from their routine.
Susan Green is the mother of an eight-year-old boy with autism under the care of Prior’s Court. She said,“My son spends most of his time indoors. But I do want him to know more about the world and experience new places. I hope this product will bring something different to his life.”
Susan Green isn’t alone. Many parents of children at Prior’s Court think that way.

D.It aims at improving children’s communication skills.
62.The VR headsets are applied to help students________.

A.consider B.Practice C.Continue D.Fear

Have you ever dreamt of being among the people talked about on a celebrity blog Well 140 junior high and high school students from Edmonton, Alberta don’t have to dream any longer. An inter-school project they worked on was so successful that Perez Hilton blogged about it, which is surprising since his blog is usually for celebrities. They did a flash mob (快闪) in a shopping center with the main message being “stand up to bullying”.
Over 140 students, aged from 12 to 17, participated in the anti-bullying flash mob, dancing to a well-known song called “Loser Like Me” “We actually had almost too many; we had to cut back on the number at each school,” said Kristina Solikowski, one organizer of the event.
“I was just really excited!” said Olivia Brassard, a grade seven student at RS Fowler School. Being one of the younger student dancers, Olivia couldn’t get over her nerves at the start. “I was a little shy because I had to interact with a lot of grade eights and nines, but after, I got more comfortable,” said Olivia.
The reason why Olivia got involved was partly for the fun of dancing but also because she really believed in the message that bullies are bad! “I thought it would be a good way to spread the word about the bullying that goes on in our society,” said Olivia.
Olivia’s friend Allison Wood, a grade eight student at St. Albert Catholic High School, got involved for the same reason as Olivia. “I don t think it’s going to be possible to stop bullying all together, but I think we can certainly decrease it,” explains Allison.
These students have set a good example for kids everywhere. There’s no better way to decrease something bad than by getting people together to do something good, right

Volunteering takes up our time, energy, and sometimes money. It can be hard work. It can find us doing and seeing new things, which can be challenging and even a little scary. So why does anyone even go there
On the one hand, volunteering is good for others. The world is not a perfect place, and many people, animals, places, and communities need help. Governments and professionals try to meet everyone’s needs, but it’s impossible for them to do it all. This is why people become volunteers: they can make a difference where someone or something needs help. If people never help each other and only care about themselves, the world becomes a crueler, sadder place. But when we volunteer our time, money or talents, we help to make our planet a better, happier home where people cooperate to make life easier for all.
Actually, volunteers and volunteer groups can do many things. They can bring food to hungry people; they can find homes or clothes for those who need them; they can protect wildlife and natural areas; they can bring comfort and happiness to lonely people; and they can help people learn to read or do better in school.
On the other hand, volunteering is good for you. Are you thinking, “What’s in it for me ” The answer is, plenty! Here are some of the things you might get in return for your giving. You may make new friends; you may gain important skills and experience that will help you later in life; you may make connections that can lead to a job or career; you may have fun. And most importantly, you may feel like you are part of a community!
Hey…it looks like being a volunteer gives as much good stuff to you as it does to the people, places, or animals you’re trying to help! That’s the secret of volunteering. People who become volunteers usually lead richer, happier, and more satisfying lives than those who don’t volunteer.
