With a new university term looking for either returning or new students, here are some musts to consider for the school year ahead.
Storage bag with handles (柄)
Whether you’re a freshman or returning for a new year, you have to move to your university. This is where moving boxes come in, but if you’d rather not be troubled by luggage, these storage bags are a nice choice. They have strong handles and keep water out.
Led alarm clock
Make sure you wake up on time for all of your lectures with this LED alarm clock. It’s also multi-functional, doubling up as a mirror that you can use through the day. It has one USB port (端口), as well as a wall hook and a stand for keeping it upright.
Trouser hanger
We’ve all been there, not having quite enough room for your clothes and wondering how you can magically fit more clothes into the same space. In University the problem is worse, but this simple hanger set can conveniently hold jeans, trousers, skirts and more, helping to ease this common problem.
Mini humidifier (增湿器)
Humidifiers don’t often get talked about too much in terms of things that would be good to have in a bedroom, but there are benefits to having them. They make the room air properly wet to aid with dry skin, nose and throat issues and improve sleep.

In my childhood, my parents never shared their worries in economy, instead choosing to let us have a carefree childhood. But I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that they couldn't afford certain things my friends had.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My brothers and I brought lunch from home every day. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of chicken or fish, cold milk, and a piece of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the yearning (渴望) in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I skipped home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my plate of chicken across the dining hall and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn't as great as l had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
I don't know why Mrs. Caruso took a shine to me. Maybe she also grew up in a family that struggled. Maybe she knew what it was like to feel just a little less than everyone else. Somehow, even with her quiet charity, she never made me feel ashamed. She just made me feel loved and important. Thanks to her, I learned that I had just as much right as anyone to sit at the hot-lunch table.
I don't remember what Mrs. Caruso looked like anymore, but I sure do remember how she made me feel. I've never lost that feeling—of being important to someone and being protected by her. After all these years, I'm still grateful to that wonderful teacher.
24. What kind of life did the author have when he was a child
A. His parents couldn't afford to send him to school.
B. He suffered from hunger every day.
C. He could get whatever he wanted.
D. His family was poor but he was well protected by his parents.
25. Why did Mrs. Caruso treat the author according to him
A. Because he worked very hard.
B. Because she and his mother were close friends.
C. Because he didn't like the home-prepared cold food.
D Because she noticed he longed to have a taste of it.
26. What did the author think of the lunch
A. It was the most delicious food that he had ever had.
B. It tasted worse than his cold food.
C. He was greatly encouraged by it.
D. He knew how the rich lived from it.
27 Which of the following can best describe Mrs. Caruso
A. Kind. B. Hard-working. C. Humorous. D. Patient.

Livestreaming is part of daily life in China. A person leading livestreams is known as a host or hostess. Toenter the industry is very easy. You can pick up your phone and you’re livestreaming. Many young Chinese are increasingly turning to online streaming as a way to earn money while selling products for major companies.
But that’s not all. For Lu, who recently graduated from a UK master’s program in marketing, the primary reason for her becoming a hostess was that she didn’t think she was able of doing the traditional nine-to-five office routine.
“I have a strong desire to share my views, which extend to some of the products I’m promoting, and there may be people who happen to like what I say. I think this is something that makes everybody happy,” said Lu, who in her videos shares romance stories and gives relationship advice to young women.
For hostesses like Lu, the industry meets the desire to be true and to express oneself freely, which is strongly welcomed by young people.
In recent years, just as China’s tech and tutoring industries offered less jobs due to structural changes in the economy, the short-video and livestreaning sector began to show potential for supplementing the job losses.
The industry will continue to grow, with studies suggesting that certain percentage of the Chinese population who have been slow to join this new consumer base will eventually find their way to embracing it.
Livestreaming sales are projected to generate over four trillion yuan in 2025, making up a quarter of all e-commerce revenue.
Still, the industry’s bright future doesn’t mean everyone entering it will be better off. While an average host can easily earn a monthly salary of 10, 000 yuan, it’s difficult to know how long the steady stream of income will keep, and whether she becomes a star will depend not just on her performance but also on how fierce her competition is.
So while the goal of getting rich and famous may be unrealistic for most, the short-video and livestreaming sector is yet filling a gap in China’s workforce.
28. What attracted Lu to be a hostess
A. To be famous. B. To make more friends.
C. To avoid the traditional office work. D. To make more money.
29. Which can best explain the underlined word in paragraph 5
A. Making up. B. Worrying about. C. Leading to. D. Preparing for.
30. For what does the author praise the industry
A. It can make most people have a better life. B. It offers many jobs to society.
C. It makes society harmonious. D. It produces stars from ordinary people.
31. Which of the following can be used as the title of the passage.
A. Colorful Daily Life B. Is It Easy to Make Money by Livestreaming
C. Enter It and You can Succeed D. Livestreaming, a New Industry in China
D
We carry smartphones everywhere, taking them to bed and to the bathroom. And for many people, their smartphone is the first thing they see in the morning. More than 90 percent of the world’s population own a smartphone and many couldn’t manage without one.
But most health concerns about phones usually focus on traffic accidents they can cause while driving, the possible harm of radio wave or just what terrible effects they can have on your work or study. The risk of virus infection from your phone is much less of a concern— but it's very real.
A 2019 study found that most people in the U. K. use their phones on the toilet and three in four Americans use their phones while on the toilet. So it’s not surprising that our mobile phones have been found to be dirtier than toilet seats.
It’s been believed that people touch their phone hundreds, if not thousands, of times a day. And while many of us wash our hands regularly after going to the bathroom, cooking, cleaning or gardening, we are much less likely to consider washing our hands after touching our phones.
Hands pick up bacteria and viruses all the time and are recognized as a track of acquiring infection. So are the phones we touch. They can be infected with many different kinds of disease-producing bacteria. These bacteria can cause skin, organ and breathing infections that can be life-threatening.
Indeed, the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting mobile phones, which, along with door handles, cash machines and lift buttons, are considered reservoirs of infection.
Even if you clean your phone with antibacterial tissues or alcohol, these viruses can survive for several days on hard plastic surfaces, indicating that virus killing must be a regular process.
Use alcohol-based liquid. They need to contain at least 70 percent alcohol to kill viruses on phone covers and touch screens, and do it every day if possible. Do keep liquids away from connection points or other phoneopenings. And get in the habit of putting your phone away after you have cleaning it, then washing your hands.
32. Which of harms from the smartphone draws the least attention of the users
A. It makes its user lose interest in anything else.
B. The viruses on it can make its user sick.
C. Accidents will happen if a driver uses it when driving.
D. The radio wave does harm to its user.
33. According to the text, what do touching cellphones and gardening have in common
A. Both make your hands dirty. B. Both needn't have a good plan.
C. Both offer you a good experience. D. Both do good to your health.
34. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us
A. It's necessary for us to clean cellphones regularly. B. The right ways to clean our cellphones.
C. Never forget to wash hands after touching phones. D. We should take care with phone washing.
35. Where is this text probably taken from
A. A textbook. B. A news report. C. A life story. D. A health article.

Some tips to learn English words

An Unexpected Call
It was a Wednesday. I had just gotten home from work and was getting dinner ready when suddenly I wanted badly to call my grandmother for I felt something was wrong with her.
Having freed my hands from all things, I dialed her number quickly and waited with a growing sense of fear as she did not answer. That was extremely unusual because she always answered, her cell phone always by her side. I called again. “Pick up! Pick up!”
I knew reasoningly she could be out or was away from the phone but as I dialed again and again, getting no answer each time for over two hours, I began to panic. She had no car, she lived alone, she only took short walks around the neighborhood.
I knew she needed help. I didn't know how I knew; I just did. Focusing on what might have happened to my grandma, I called my sister and my father and told them I thought something was wrong and we needed to drive one state over to my grandmother's house to check on her. I was out the door before either of them could text to me any disagreeing idea.
I picked them up and we headed forward. “She's probably at church,” my father kept saying. “Maybe she's taking a nap,” my sister got a word in, but I just stepped on the gas and a half hour later we pulled into my grandmother's driveway.
The gate was shut, and not a ray of light could be seen inside. Now, sensing I was right, my father began knocking on the locked front door. My sister leaned on the doorbell and although we could hear the clock ticking away there was no other noise inside. I pressed my eye against the window of the dining room.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【原文】When I was eight years old, one day, my father took my brother and me on a picnic beside a river. When we arrived there, my father went to search for some wood. Before he left, he told us the river was very dangerous and made us promise not to walk up to it. But I was too curious about it. I thought there must be different kinds of fish in the river. So I did not keep my promise and walked into the river. I saw many beautiful fish, but when I tried to catch a fish, I fell down. Because the river was very deep, I could not stand and touch the bottom. I cried out loudly, but nobody was there, except my brother Danny. Danny was very scared. He didn’t know what he could do. He jumped in, but that just made the situation worse. He was two years younger than me, so he was even shorter than me, and he couldn’t swim. Both of us cried out. Fortunately, there was a farmer passing by. He saved us before our father came back.

Several musts for the new term

C. Because he didn't like the home-prepared cold food.

26. What did the author think of the lunch
A. It was the most delicious food that he had ever had.

【答案】28. C 29. A 30. B 31.

【答案】32. B 33. A 34. B 35. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲智能手机带来的健康问题。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第二段“The risk of virus infection from your phone is much less of a concern— but it’s very real.(从手机感染病毒的风险要小得多,但这是非常真实的。)”可知,手机用户很少担心手机上面的病毒会让他们生病。故选B项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第四段“And while many of us wash our hands regularly after going to the bathroom, cooking, cleaning or gardening, we are much less likely to consider washing our hands after touching our phones.(虽然我们中的许多人在上完厕所、做饭、打扫卫生或园艺后定期洗手,但我们不太可能在接触手机后考虑洗手。)”可知,园艺和触摸手机后都可以让我们的手脏。故选A项。
【34题详解】
主旨大意题。由文章最后一段“Use alcohol-based liquid. They need to contain at least 70 percent alcohol to kill viruses on phone covers and touch screens, and do it every day if possible. Do keep liquids away from connection points or other phoneopenings. And get in the habit of putting your phone away after you have cleaning it, then washing your hands.(使用含酒精的液体。它们需要含有至少70%的酒精才能杀死手机壳和触摸屏上的病毒,如果可能的话,每天都要这样做。一定要让液体远离连接点或其他电话开口。养成一个习惯,在清洁完手机后把它收起来,然后洗手。)”可知,本段主要介绍正确清理手机的方法。故选B项。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第六段“Indeed, the U. S.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

After she woke up, she told us what had happened to her.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Attempting to see inside the darkened room, I could just make out a pale hand on the floor. I ran quickly toward the back door, yelling for my father and sister to help me break into the house. My father smashed the window of the back door open with a rock and I was able to reach in and unlock the door. We were in. My poor grandmother lay on the floor of her dining room with a pool of blood nearby her hand, having no sense of what we were doing. Clearly she was badly hurt. I held her hand and lay on the floor beside her while my sister called for aid. Soon we were at the local hospital's emergency room.
Paragraph2:
After she woke up, she told us what had happened to her. That morning, she wanted to get some food for breakfast from the cupboard, but she was tripped over by a chair, sending the food on the plate everywhere What's worse, her hand was cut by the broken plate. And too much loss of blood resulted in her losing sense Thankfully we arrived in time. Recalling the terrible experience, my grandma smiled at me so sweetly and patted my hand gently.
