My grandma, Elena, pulled me on stage for our routine to entertain the crowd. At five years old, I needed no encouragement to perform. Like my grandma, formerly a professional dancer, I loved the spotlight, and soon became addicted to the applause (鼓掌).
I was Grandma’s willing partner, always ready to kick off a show with her on stage. Each week, Grandma came to my parents’ home so that we could practice our performances. “Choose whatever you like,” Grandma said. “You can wear whatever you want.”
Grandma didn’t mind at all if I chose to wear high-heeled shoes on stage. To her, I was a natural performer. Wearing them was simply considered as artistic expression. On my first night on stage, I dressed up as Madonna in a white skirt, singing a song of her and I won many praises.
One year, after being attracted by the movie 101 Dalmatians, I decided to act Cruella de Vil, a role in it. Performing on the stage with my black frock (连衣裙), a handbag and a cigarette holder, I enjoyed the audience’s laughter, and it was like music to my ears. “You’re a natural actor,” Grandma said after the show.
Today, I always perform at the hugely popular theatre. Going up on stage feels like being at home. That’s how I make a living and I find the place where I belong. In July this year, I headed to the Gold Coast, where Grandma lives. Now 95 and still my biggest fan, she saw me perform my new act for the first time and loved it.
She has been my lifelong inspiration and support, but I can never repay her. She always loved me for who I was and now, I’m finally the person who I was always meant to be.
4. What can we know about the author from the text
A. She lived with her grandma. B. She has liked performing since young.
C. She always refused to go on the stage. D. She learned to dance from her grandma.
5. How did Elena deal with the author’s dressing
A. She supported it. B. She punished her.
C. She bought her a skirt. D. She paid no attention to it.
6. What is the author’s job
A. An actor. B. A teacher. C. A doctor. D. A manager.
7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To memorize her experiences. B. To show her achievements.
C. To record her childhood. D. To thank her grandma.

Hobbies help establish your identity (特征) and learn skills you might need later in life. Hobbies sometimes connect people together to finish things one person can not. Who you become is finally up to you, but making the right choices is the challenge itself. You have to weigh your choices for your future.
You can find other people with the same interests by taking part in public events you enjoy. Psychology Today says, “Hobbies make you an interesting person.” Attributes (特征) like these are good for your personal identity because they help you function around other people, allowing you to gain more knowledge.
Finding people who have the same interests with you is a thing that is easy to do, thanks to the Internet. According to Y Studios, you need to immerse (沉浸) yourself in different culture to understand other people’s point of view which could change you, or make you more knowledgeable. That is the thing you can achieve through hobbies.
An activity can change your identity rather quickly and easily. Having many activities to take part in makes you become the person you are. In fact, when you find something you love, you may forget about bad things and care what you are doing.
Hobbies can greatly broaden your range in things you can do, and set you to be more open-minded to other activities. Having things to do is just as important as your everyday life at school and work. Having a couple of hobbies is a huge jump in self-identification. You can’t go wrong with learning a new language, or figuring out how the computer you use every day completes school work actually.
Hobbies arc important to identity because they shape who you become as a person. The actions you take and the things you end up putting yourself through create an experience that you can learn and take something out of.

On December 14, 1972, three NASA astronauts (宇航员) left the moon. Two had just completed their stay there for NASA’s Apollo 17 mission (任务). During that time, astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt walked across the lunar (月球的) surface. Meanwhile, astronaut Ronald Evans kept control of the command module. When the astronauts returned to Earth, they became the last humans to visit the moon.
Now, about 50 years later, astronauts are getting ready to go back. But this time will be different. On November 16, 2022, NASA launched (发射) its Artemis 1. The agency’s new Space Launch System rocket lifted off in Florida and began its first voyage toward the moon. No one was on board. But the mission tested new technologies that eventually will bring astronauts back to the moon, including the first woman.
Jose Hurtado, an expert at the University of Texas at El Paso, said, “It was a great launch. What I love is about space exploration, so it was really stirring.” He found it an inspirational view, hoping everybody watching it got that inspiration.
NASA’s Apollo program took place in the 1960s and 1970s.Its crewed missions to the moon ran from 1968 to 1972. In July 1969, the Apollo 11 mission landed the first astronaut on the moon. Over the next few years, five more flights brought 10 more American men to the sky.
Once Apollo ended, NASA shifted its focus to space stations as preparation for longer human spaceflights. America’s first space station, Skylab, launched in May 1973, hosted four crews of astronauts that year and the next. But Skylab was meant to be only a temporary station. Within several years, it broke apart in the atmosphere.
NASA astronauts won’t be the only people exploring the lunar surface. China aims to land its own astronauts at the moon’s south pole within the next decade.
12. When did the last Apollo moon landing happen
A. In 1968. B. In 1969. C. In 1972. D. In 1973.
13. Why did NASA launch Artemis 1
A. To test an American new rocket.
B. To land at the moon’s south pole.
C. To build America’s first space station.
D. To prepare for man’s return to the moon.
14. What does the underlined word “stirring” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Tiring. B. Simple. C. Similar. D. Exciting.
15. What may be talked about in the following text
A. China’s inspiration of getting to the moon.
B. NASA started to focus on the space station.
C. China’s efforts to send astronauts to the moon.
D. NASA astronauts explored the lunar surface.

In a heartwarming event that has touched the nation, a police officer in Warren, Michigan, was considered as a true hero by saving the life of an 18-month-old boy who had suddenly stopped breathing. This event happened on the evening of August 29 and has since touched the hearts of many.
Officer Brandan Fraser was on duty, focusing on speed and absent-minded driving, when he noticed a car speeding past him. What in the beginning seemed like a common traffic violation (违规) rapidly turned into a life-and-death crisis.
As Fraser came up to the car, he was met with a sad cry from a woman, who screamed, “We got a baby in here dying. Help! Help!” Both the woman and the man in the car were frightened as they handed over the baby boy, who appeared to be lifeless, not breathing and turning blue.
Rather than giving in to the pressure of the moment, Fraser immediately sprang into action. He examined the baby and doubted that he might be choking (窒息). Fraser quickly positioned the baby on his forearm and performed a series of back blows to force any obstruction (阻塞物) from the baby’s airway out.
However, the baby still showed no signs of breathing. Fraser’s heart raced, but his training kicked in here. After making sure the baby’s airway was clear, he then continued to perform CPR on the baby. His hands pressed the baby’s tiny chest and at the same time, he blew some air into the baby’s mouth to help make his heart beat again. Fraser continued these life-saving efforts tirelessly, knowing that every second counted.
Surprisingly, the baby began to breathe once more. Fraser described the moment, saying, “The baby started breathing, and you saw that color started coming back around his lips. You realized that something happened here, and we were heading in the right direction.”

【答案】 After a while, the baby gave out a cry, a sign that life was returning. All the people around sighed in relief. The baby’s parents were more than thrilled with tears falling down their faces. They thanked Fraser again and again. “We can’t thank you too much, Mr. Fraser. It was what you did just now that saved the life of our son. Thank you, very much! You’re our true hero.” “Don’t mention that so much. What I did was just little. Now it’s time to go to the hospital to see a doctor.”
Then the baby was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Hardly had they arrived when the emergency doctors gathered around to check the baby. “Somebody must have done the right first aid for your son.” A doctor asked. “Yes, doctors. A police called Fraser did it for him just now.” The baby’s father said. “What he did really matters. He saved your son.” At last, the doctors gave whole and careful examinations for the baby and made sure he was all right.

NASA astronauts won’t be the only people exploring the lunar surface China aims to land its own astronauts at the moon’s south pole within the next decade.
