A
Everybody has experienced it at least once—pulling out a favorite item of clothing from the washing machine only to find that it is now shrunken, discolored, or damaged! It is at this point that you wish you had paid more attention to the washing symbols on the care label. Here, we will explain the most common washing instruction symbols on wash care labels.
Wash Symbol Depicted as a bucket filled with water, the Wash Symbol tells you what temperature or machine setting you should use to wash the item of clothing. One Dot=30℃ Two Dots=40℃ Three Dots=50℃ Four Dots=60℃ Five Dots=70℃ Six Dots=95℃
Permanent Press The Permanent Press symbol has one line beneath the standard wash symbol. Permanent Press fabrics have been treated with chemicals to ensure they resist wrinkles and keep their original shapes. If a piece clothing is permanent press, it usually means that you shouldn’t iron it.
Gentle Cycle The Gentle Cycle symbol has two lines beneath the standard wash symbol. The gentle cycle is for delicate fibres like wool or silk, or for items of clothing that could be damaged by a vigorous (剧烈的) washing.
Do Not Wash The Do Not Wash symbol is the standard wash symbol with a cross through it. If the label instructs you not to wash the item, it will have to be dry cleaned after it gets dirty.
Now you’ve got the hang of washing labels; you can put your machine-washable items in the machine.
1. What might have happened if you find your trousers damaged after washing
A. You were confused about their materials.
B. You forgot setting the machine’s temperature.
C. You paid little attention to the washing symbols.
D. You washed them without any washing powders.
2. What washing symbol can you find on your woolen coat
A. B. C. D.
3. How do you wash your hat with a cross through it on its washing symbol
A. Dry it after washing. B. Wash it in the machine.
C. Dry-clean it if it is dirty. D. Get it dried before washing.
根据第一段“Everybody has experienced it at least once—pulling out a favorite item of clothing from the washing machine only to find that it is now shrunken, discolored, or damaged! It is at this point that you wish you had paid more attention to the washing symbols on the care label. (每个人都经历过至少一次从洗衣机里拿出一件最喜欢的衣服时,却发现它缩水、变色或损坏了!此时,您希望您能更多地注意护理标签上的洗涤符号)”可知,裤子被洗坏,可能是因为在洗涤衣服之前没有怎么注意到护理标签上的洗涤符号。故答案为C。
【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据表格中的第三行“The gentle cycle is for delicate fibres like wool or silk, or for items of clothing that could be damaged by a vigorous (剧烈的) washing. (慢水循环适用于像羊毛或丝绸这样的精细纤维,或适用于那些可能被剧烈洗涤损坏的衣物)”可知,毛呢外套上会有Gentle Cycle的标签。故答案为D。
【3题详解】
细节理解题。根据表格中的最后一行“The Do Not Wash symbol is the standard wash symbol with a cross through it. If the label instructs you not to wash the item, it will have to be dry cleaned after it gets dirty. (“请勿清洗”符号是标准的清洗符号,中间有一个十字。如果标签指示您不要清洗该物品,则在其变脏后必须进行干洗)”可知,我们需要将带有Do Not Wash符号的帽子进行干洗。故答案为C。
B
In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its splendour. Rushing home, I popped the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it came out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment along with photos I’ve taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
4. What did the author think of taking photos as a young boy
A. Inspiring and practical. B. Troublesome yet delightful.
C. Complicated yet engaging. D. Thrilling and rewarding.
5. What prevented the author from taking photos according to paragraph 2
A. He was struck by sudden sorrow.
B. He was faced with increasing pressure.
C. He intended to focus on his work
D. He attempted to behave like an adult.
6. What did the author get from picking up his hobby
A. More enjoyment in the daily routine. B. New journeys in the wild.
C. Better skills of observation. D. Different styles of photography.
7. What is the best title for the text
A. Revisiting Lost Childhood Memories
B. Appreciating Beauty Behind the Lens
C. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography
D. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera
D 5. B 6. A 7. C

根据文章第一段中“I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. (那时我拍了很多照片,当你冲洗你的胶卷时,你会得到彩色照片,这一事实让我很高兴,它冻结了那些珍贵的时刻,温柔地鼓励了我的爱好和为冲洗而支付的费用。)”可推断,对于作者小时候拍照这件事,作者觉得这是令人兴奋且值得的。故选D。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. (这些年来不断增长的压力把相机从我的枕头旁推到了角落里的盒子里。)”可知,作者面临的压力越来越大,这使得作者停止了拍照。故选B。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me. (即使一天很满很忙,我也能抓住一些时间给自己拍照,观察周围的世界。)”和第四段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.(对我来说,这个房间代表了我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接我搁置的年轻的自己,通过在我的生活中为快乐留出空间,通过创造一个允许快乐机会的环境。)” 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

For all of human history, eating meat has meant killing animals. But scientists behind lab grown meat say that’s no longer necessary. They produce meat by growing cells obtained from an animal’s body.
Lab-grown meat, also called “cell-cultivated” or “cultured” meat, is made by feeding a mix of nutrients to animal cells in steel tanks in labs. The idea is to create an alternative to agriculturally raised meat. And unlike other meat substitutes which are made from plant proteins and other ingredients, lab-grown meat is real meat. When ready, the meat is formed into shapes such as sausages or nuggets (块), and looks, smells and tastes like any other grocery store version.
Recently, the U. S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) has given two companies approval to sell lab-grown chicken. The approval launches a new era of meat production aimed at eliminating harm to animals, and reducing the environmental impacts of grazing(放牧) and growing feed for animals. Scientists warn that the typical way meat is produced now, in concentrated animal feeding operations, is a risk factor for the emergence of diseases. Lab-grown meat is more sustainable and can be produced without antibiotics, and without producing greenhouse gas emissions linked to animal agriculture.
“Everything we know about how meat can be made is going to change. But don’t expect to see cultivated meat in grocery stores just yet,” said Uma Valeti, CEO of UPSIDE Foods. Lab-grown chicken is much more expensive, because it cannot yet be produced on the scale of traditional meat.
“To make cultivated meat, energy use needs are high,” said Bruce Friedrich, president and founder of the Good Food Institute, a nonprofit group that promotes alternative proteins. However, the disadvantage of high energy needs will be offset by the reduction in land and water use and other benefits. If cultured meat is produced on a large scale, it could also offer a solution to feeding the world’s growing population.
8. What do we know about lab-grown meat
A. It is abundant in plant proteins.
B. It can be bought in grocery stores.
C. It is generated from animals’ cells.
D. It tastes more delicious than traditional meat.
9. What is the potential benefit of lab-grown meat
A. More nutrition consumed by eaters.
B. Lower costs for restaurants.
C. Improvements in traditional agriculture.
D. Positive impacts on climate change and animals.
10. What problem does the author mention in paragraph 4
A. It is hard to produce lab-grown meat in quantity.
B. The USDA doesn’t approve the sale of lab-grown meat.
C Many people raise doubts about the safety of lab-grown meat.
D. Lab-grown meat can disturb competition in the meat industry.
11. What does the underlined word “offset” in the last paragraph mean
A. Balanced. B. Satisfied. C. Increased. D. Exchanged.
C 9. D 10. A 11. A

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational technology (EdTech) has brought incomparable convenience and efficiency to classrooms worldwide. However, despite these advancements, it is crucial to recognize the challenges these AI-driven tools pose to the autonomy and professional judgment of instructors.
One of its primary concerns is the depersonalization of instruction. These tools often rely on pre-packaged digital content and standardized solutions, leaving insufficient room for instructors to tailor their teaching methods. Each student possesses unique characteristics. Instructors, armed with their wealth of experience and knowledge, are best positioned to tailor their approaches to these individual needs. However, AI-driven tools restrict their ability to do so effectively, resulting in a one-size-fits-all approach that fails to inspire students to reach their maximum potential.
EdTech companies offer step-by-step solutions to textbook problems. These are intended to act as study aids. However, some students employ this feature as a means to merely copy solutions without comprehending concepts. Consequently, instances of cheating on assignments and exams become widespread. While these tools may offer convenience, students may use external resources or cooperate with others during quizzes, affecting the honesty of their learning outcomes.
The implications of this depersonalization and the increase in academic dishonesty are far-reaching. By decreasing the role of instructors as facilitators of meaningful educational interactions, we run the risk of preventing the growth of critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. Education should not only focus on knowledge acquisition, but should also develop the ability to analyze, evaluate, and apply that knowledge in real-world contexts. It should help one’s mind grow, not simply memorize information. Through dynamic classroom discussions, cooperative projects, and hands-on activities, instructors play a crucial role in developing these essential skills.
While AI-driven EdTech tools undeniably have their virtues, we must not lose sight of the importance of preserving instructor autonomy and educational experience. Instead of relying only on pre-packaged content and standardized solutions, these tools should be designed to empower instructors to adapt and customize their approaches while taking full advantage of the benefits of technology.
12. What do the underlined words “the depersonalization of instruction” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Tailored methods for individuals. B. Instructors’ dependence on Al.
C. Insufficient resources of Al-driven tools. D. The one-size-fits-all approach.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. A possible solution.
B. A further problem.
C. A well-meant intention.
D. A suggested application
14. In what aspect do students suffer most with AI-driven EdTech education
A. Thinking skills. B. Teamwork building.
C. Interest development. D. Knowledge acquisition.
15. What is conveyed about Al-driven EdTech tools in the last paragraph
A. They should be used widely.
B. Their benefits deserve our attention.
C. Their resources need enriching.
D. They should support instructor autonomy.
D 13. B 14. A 15. D

根据划线词下文“Each student possesses unique characteristics. Instructors, armed with their wealth of experience and knowledge, are best positioned to tailor their approaches to these individual needs. However, AI-driven tools restrict their ability to do so effectively, resulting in a one-size-fits-all approach that fails to inspire students to reach their maximum potential. (每个学生都有自己独特的特点。教师拥有丰富的经验和知识,最适合为这些个人需求量身定制他们的方法。然而,人工智能驱动的工具限制了他们有效地做到这一点的能力,导致一刀切的方法无法激发学生发挥最大潜力)”可知,每个学生都有自己独特的特点,人工智能采用一刀切的方法无法激发学生发挥最大潜力。由此可知,划线词组the depersonalization of instruction (教学的去人格化)指的是The one-size-fits-all approach (一刀切的方法)。
根据第三段中的“However, some students employ this feature as a means to merely copy solutions without comprehending concepts. Consequently, instances of cheating on assignments and exams become widespread. While these tools may offer convenience, students may use external resources or cooperate with others during quizzes, affecting the honesty of their learning outcomes. (然而,一些学生利用这一特点作为一种手段,只是复制解决方案,而不理解概念。因此,在作业和考试中作弊的情况变得普遍。虽然这些工具提供了便利,但学生可能会在测试过程中使用外部资源或与他人合作,从而影响他们学习成果的诚实)”可知,第三段主要介绍了另一个问题。故选B。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“By decreasing the role of instructors as facilitators of meaningful educational interactions, we run the risk of preventing the growth of critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. Education should not only focus on knowledge acquisition, but should also develop the ability to analyze, evaluate, and apply that knowledge in real-world contexts. It should help one’s mind grow, not simply memorize information. (通过减少教师作为有意义的教育互动促进者的角色,我们冒着阻碍学生批判性思维和解决问题技能发展的风险。教育不应该只关注知识的获取,还应该培养分析、评价和在现实环境中应用知识的能力。它应该帮助一个人的思维成长,而不仅仅是记忆信息)”可推知,在人工智能驱动的EdTech教育中,学生在思维能力方面受到的影响最大。故选A。
根据最后一段“While AI-driven EdTech tools undeniably have their virtues, we must not lose sight of the importance of preserving instructor autonomy and educational experience. Instead of relying only on pre-packaged content and standardized solutions, these tools should be designed to empower instructors to adapt and customize their approaches while taking full advantage of the benefits of technology. (虽然人工智能驱动的教育技术工具无可否认有其优点,但我们不能忽视保留教师自主权和教育经验的重要性。这些工具的设计不应仅仅依赖于预先打包的内容和标准化的解决方案,而应使教师能够在充分利用技术优势的同时适应和定制他们的方法)”可推知,人工智能驱动的教育技术工具应该支持教师的自主权。故选D。

To me the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

A. A possible solution.
B. A further problem.
C. A well-meant intention.
D. A suggested application
14. In what aspect do students suffer most with AI-driven EdTech education
A. Thinking skills. B. Teamwork building.
C. Interest development. D. Knowledge acquisition.
15. What is conveyed about Al-driven EdTech tools in the last paragraph
A. They should be used widely.
B. Their benefits deserve our attention.
C. Their resources need enriching.
