My father, who was always drunk and angry, beat me more and more every day. He always locked the door when he went away and kept the key in his pocket. One day I found an old saw (锯子) that he hid in the roof. When I was alone in the house,I started to make a hole on the floor under the big table.
The next day my father said, "Huck, go to the river and catch some fish for breakfast. Quickly! And don't try anything. Remember, I'm watching you!"
While I was fishing by the river, I saw an empty boat nearby.
"A boat!"I thought, happily, "This is my chance to escape. I'll hide the boat near some trees and use it tonight!"
When my father went to town that afternoon, I got my saw and started to work on the hole. It was late afternoon when I finished making the hole.
"I did a good job,"I thought, looking at the hole. "Now I'll get my father's gun, I have a plan."
I looked outside the window and there was nobody there. I quickly escaped through the hole. Then I ran into the woods to hunt a wild pig. Luckily, I found one. I shot it and took it back to the house and let the pig's blood fall on the wooden floor of the house. Then I pulled some of my hair out and put it on my father's ax (斧子) with some of the pig's blood.
I took the pig's body outside and put it in a big bag with some rocks, and threw it into the river.
"This way people will think ______▲_______!" I thought. “They'll come and look for my body in the river."I couldn't help smiling at the idea.

How would you feel if someone decided to take away your park Well that's what's happening in my community. There's a park that some people want to turn into a golf (高尔夫) course. Let me tell you why I think it's a bad idea.
First, a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf, so not everyone will get to use the park. This isn't fair. A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.
Second, to make way for the golf course, lots of playground equipment(设施) will have to be moved or knocked down, which is a waste of time and money. It's also a waste of perfectly good equipment. The swings, for example, will probably just end up as litter.
Third, what about giving young people something to do Not all kids are crazy about golf. At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, these kids won't have anywhere to go and they won't have anything to do. This means that they will stay at home and turn on a video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be-out on the street causing trouble. Wouldn't it be better to give them something to do at the park
Finally, golf is expensive. Building a golf course and maintaining(维护) it costs a lot of money. Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course What about those people who can't afford to join a golf club That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.
Turning our park into a golf course is a bad idea. I suggest we have a community meeting before plans go any further.
38. Some people want to change the park into______________.
A. a golf club B. a golf course
C.a playground D. a skating place
39.According to Paragraph 4, having nowhere to go will make some children _____________.
A. go to get some exercise B. fall in love with golf
C. play video games at home D. go to the street and make friends
40. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage (P=Paragraph)
41. What is the writer's purpose in writing this passage
A. To help carry out further plans.
B. To make the park more beautiful
C. To encourage children to go skating.
D. To stop the golf course from being built.
D
Roger Federer, a world-famous sports star, quit(放弃) the 2020 Olympic Games to deal with his knee problem. It was a hard decision because no one wanted to be a quitter. But finding the courage to let go can be good for you.
Nothing is fun all the time. Sticking at something difficult teaches us important skills like perseverance(毅力). However, learning to let go when things aren't right is important too. Maybe your heart isn't in playing the piano any more, or you only play football because your friends do and you want to try a different sport instead. Making the decision to walk away can free up time and energy to spend on something you really enjoy. In fact, studies show that letting go of goals you can't reach, or don't really want, can build up your confidence and help you lead a happier and healthier life.
But how can you know it's time to stop and move on Eric Bean is an expert in sports psychology (心理学) who helps athletes and teams understand their feelings. He says, "Quitting is never a matter of black and white." He suggests thinking carefully about why you aren't enjoying something any more. Is it because you've argued with a teammate or can't get on with a new art teacher Talk about this with a trusted adult or friend. That can help you decide whether you should stay and stick, or quit and move on.
Quitting doesn't have to mean totally giving up, though. For example, playing an instrument might be more fun if you take away the pressure of exams. If you do decide to give up an activity, Bean suggests picking up another where you can still enjoy things like teamwork, creativity, and exercise.
42. The writer mentions "Roger Federer" in Paragraph 1 to show that______________.
A. we should never give up B. we should get away from trouble
C. it's all right to stop and quit D. it's difficult to win Olympic medals
43. According to Paragraph 2, learning to let go is important because we can _____________.
A. learn about perseverance B. have enough money to spend
C. live a busier and fuller life D. feel more confident in ourselves
44. By saying the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3, Eric Bean means that______________.
A. it's not good to stick at things we don't like
B. we should think twice before quitting an activity
C. we don't have to take exams to show our true abilities
D. it's wiser to pick up a new hobby than to keep the old one
45. Which could be the best title for the passage
A. Knowing When to Stop.
B. Working Hard to Move on
C. Learning How to Grow up.
D. Starting Early to Make Changes.
第二节(共5小题:每小题1分,满分5分)
下面文中有5处(第46-50题)需要添加首句,从短文后所给的选项中选出符合各段落意思的首句。选项中有一项为多余选项。
Where you sit and how you fit
__46__ For more than seventy years, researchers and teachers have studied the link between the place where students choose to sit in class and what they are like as people and learners. Where do you usually decide to sit Have you ever really thought about the reasons for your decision
__47__ But is this really true Well, some researchers say it is not. In fact, shy students often choose the back row because it is far away from the teacher and they don't want to answer questions. At the back, students probably won't speak much, but in big classrooms, it can be hard to see the board and hear what the teacher is saying. This could be the reason why students who sit here often get lower grades on tests and exams. For students with poor eyesight or hearing, a seat at the back of the classroom is not a good choice.
__48__ However, they like watching and listening rather than joining in.These students are usually also very good at taking notes. Next time you miss a class, borrow notes from someone who sits here. On the sides of the classroom you will generally find modest and thoughtful people. These people usually get good grades in school and are interested in learning.
__49__ Then the statistics(统计数据) say you probably like your teacher. You probably also have a good relationship with your classmates. Caring, outgoing, and cheerful people usually sit in the middle. They are normally serious about learning and feel disappointed with low grades on tests and exams.
__50__ Students who sit here usually want to discuss things with the teacher and are often very interested in the subject. They want to be in the best place to see and hear everything the teacher does and says. The only problem with sitting here is that it can be difficult to see and hear what other students do and say in class.
So, if you really want to hear what everyone says in class, choose a different place to sit.
A. You probably sit right at the front of the class if you're longing for knowledge.
B. Research suggests that the seat you choose in the classroom says a lot about you and your personality.
C. Do you sit in the middle of the classroom
D. This means it's a good idea to sit in a different place every day.
E. People often think that students who sit at the back are lazy.
F. Students who sit at the side of the classroom are normally interested in class
