Imagine a long train that sends humans across the country at speeds of over 1,000 km/h. It is called the Hyperloop One and sounds like something from a science-fiction movie. But the idea, came up with by US billionaire Elon Musk in 2013, is starting to look more believable.
According to Science magazine, the train is being tested in the Nevada desert, US. Pictures of the train have come out and it will do a public test later this year.
The train has lots of carriages (车厢) in order to transport more people. It moves so fast because of the fast-moving air inside it. Musk said he wanted to build the Hyperloop One because it was a better idea than slower and more expensive high-speed trains. He hopes the 560 km trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco would take just 35 minutes on the Hyperloop One and cost $6 billion (42 billion yuan) to make while a high-speed railway costs $60 billion.
The Hyperloop One would be twice as fast as the Shanghai Maglev (磁悬浮), which is one of the world’s fastest public trains with a top speed of about 500 km/h.
The City of Dubai has already signed several papers with Musk’s company. They want to connect the city with Abu Dhabi and turn a two-hour car trip into a 12-minute journey according to Yahoo news. The Hyperloop One team is now working with two major engineering companies, as well as people from NASA, Space X and Boeing.
