Last summer I traveled to Maryland to visit my parents. The trip was special because I had brought along Dakota, a 10-year-old retired rescue dog, who is part of my family and has breavely saved many strangers’ lives. My parents hadn't seen him since I moved to California two years ago.

After ensuring the baggage handler placed Dakota in a wooden box and then into the plane’s cargo hold, I boarded the plane. Because the flight was half full, I switched to a seat in the an empty row in the back of the plane.

About two hours into the flight, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a flight attendant. She told me the pilot wanted to speak to me about my dog, so I followed her up to the front of plane the plane. I wondered what he wanted to talk to me about.

When seeing him, he told me he had received a call from his colleague on the ground who said Dakota had been loaded in the wrong cargo hold by accident. He explained the aircraft had two cargo holds. The one in the back was designed as an animal cargo hold, as it was lighted and heated, while the front one was used for other purposes. He said Dakota had been misplaced in the front cargo hold. And since it wasn’t properly heated he couldn’t be sure if Dakota was okay, especially in the freezing temperatures at thirty thousand feet.

I was shocked and my eyes watered. The captain then told me he wad allowed to divert the plane to make an unscheduled landing in Denver. Again, he cautioned that he didn’t he didn’t know if Dakota was still alive. Although I was upset, I was grateful the captain would stop in Denver. He went on to explain that once we landed, I could go with him to check if Dakota was aright. “But would the passengers complain the plane would stop in Denver ” I wondered.

Most of the passengers were moved by the dogs heroic deeds, concerned about its situation, and agreed with the captain’s decision.
③What would be “my” reaction when seeing the passengers response
May be surprised at first, then grateful for the passengers’ understanding.

May be the amount of time was less than 30 mins, but I felt it was like a year long.
