He hurried around the room, touching everything he could reach. I followed, attempting to intercept (拦截) him before he reached the hallway. He approached the front desk and knocked over all the papers on the table. I assisted him firmly in collecting them. I sensed eyes watching me, judging my parenting skills.
I should have realised that arriving so early would not have been wise. It was my mistake to arrive early, as the long wait was difficult for my child. I kept searching my bag and found a ball, which finally attracted him. A couple waited for their child. They stared at me and my son, and I heard the words “out of control”. I could feel my face flush red. I wanted to tell them that my son has a disability and that he’s not being bad; he’s just having trouble waiting. I sat down and watched him play with the ball, and I tried my best not to cry.
The instructor called the group together, and my son went off to play sports with the other five-year-olds. I prayed that this time he would follow the rules. I closed my eyes and wished him to be okay.
“He’ll be fine.” I opened my eyes and looked beside me. “He’ll do great. You are doing great. You are a great mom. I can see it in all that you do for him,” a lady sat on my right said.
She told me about her brother and her parents and all that her mom did for her brother over the years. She told me about how he turned out great, got a job and lives on his own now. We sat and talked, and I felt the tension leave my body.
Before I knew it, the doors opened, and all the kids ran out, including my own, filled with excitement and pride. “I did it!” he exclaimed. I picked him up. I turned to thank the lady, but she was gone.
24. What might others in the waiting room expect the author to do
A. Apologize to them. B. Make her child behave.
C. Get out of the room. D. Take her son to the doctor’s.
25. What might contribute to the behavior of the author’s son
A. His own temper. B. His mother’s love.
C. A physical disability. D. Difficulty in waiting.
26. What might make the lady’s words convincing to the author
A. Her sincere attitude. B. Her family’s experience.
C. Her brother’s suffering. D. Her sympathy for the author.
27. What did the author want to show through the story
A True and kind words can change the world.
B. It is difficult for a child to behave himself.
C. Be more patient to a child with disability.
D. Wrong words will make the world worse.

Your brain isn’t necessarily the same age as the rest of you. Now, it may be possible to predict how quickly a person’s brain will age throughout life based on tests taken when they are 3 years old. A person’s biological age may be a better indicator of their health than their chronological age Brain age can be measured using brain scans and machine learning to determine if a person’s brain looks older or younger than the average healthy brain for people of the same age.
To find out if brain age might reveal anything about a person’s health in midlife. Maxwell Elliott at Duke University in North Carolina and his colleagues assessed the brains of 869 adults in New Zealand who have undergone regular medical and cognitive testing since they were 3 years old. When the volunteers, all aged between 43 and 46, underwent MRI brain scans, the team found that their brain ages ranged from 23 to 71. Those with older brain ages performed worse on tests of cognition. memory and IQ. The researchers also measured things like cholesterol and blood sugar levels to estimate the biological age of the volunteers'bodies.
James Cole at King’s College London cautions that it will be difficult to make predictions based on a 3-year-old’s test results. “Acceleration or delay could be positive or negative.” says Cole. “If a 60-year-old has a brain that looks 70, that’s bad, but if a 3-year-old has a brain that looks 5, that might be a good thing.” The team also asked other researchers to guess how old the volunteers were based on photos of their faces. Again, the responses varied hugely with estimates coming in 20 years above and below their actual age. Those who looked older also had older brain ages. “It suggests that the outward signs of ageing are reflected by the internal signs of ageing,” says Cole.
“That doesn’t mean that all older-looking individuals will be on their way to dementia (痴呆).” says Elliott. We don’t yet have a way to treat brain ageing, but given the known benefits to the brain of healthy eating and exercise, these aren’t a bad place to start.
28. Why did Max Elliott conduct the experiment
A. To test whether brain age might indicate a person’s health in midlife.
B. To find out if chronological age shows a person’s health in midlife.
C. To test whether a person’s brain age is younger than his chronological age.
D. To find out whether a person’s chronological age influences his brain age.
29. What can we learn about Maxwell Elliott’s experiment
A. The 869 volunteers, all aged between 43 and 46. are all from North Carolina.
B. The volunteers have never experienced any regular medical or cognitive testing.
C. Those with older brain ages performed worse than those with younger ones.
D. The volunteer’s brain ages ranged from 43 and 46 by MRI scans.
30. Which of the following would James Cole probably agree with
A. It has been possible to make precise predictions based on 3-year-old’s test results.
B. People’s acceleration or delay of brain ageing must be one hundred percent negative.
C. The internal signs of ageing can reflect the outward signs of ageing.
D. It is not a good thing for a 3-year-old with a brain that looks 5.
31 What does the author want to convey in the last paragraph
A. It makes no sense to worry about such prediction too much.
B. It is urgent to treat brain ageing at once for it is a fatal disease.
C. Researchers are at a loss what to do with brain ageing.
D. Researchers have found an effective way to treat brain ageing.

Cherry blossoms (樱花) in Kyoto, Japan, reached peak bloom (绽放) on March 26 this year — the earliest the event has occurred in 1,200 years of records. Why so soon
According to records previously collected by Professor Yasuyuki Aono, Kyoto’s cherry blossoms had consistently flowered around April 10 to 17 for over a thousand years. The Washington Post reports that Japan’s most famous flowers have been trending toward blooming earlier each spring, with scientists blaming the phenomenon on increasing global temperatures. And this year, the peak has shifted all the way into the previous month. “The Kyoto Cherry Blossom record is incredibly valuable for climate change research. Even a slight drop or rise of springtime temperatures can be recorded by it,” research scientist Benjamin Cook said, noting that warmer temperatures typically mean cherry blossoms bloom earlier.
Cherry blossoms are influenced so easily by temperature that trees in Tokyo even bloomed in autumn after typhoons caused warmer weather in 2018. Meanwhile, Aono estimated that Kyoto has warmed by 3.4 degrees Celsius since 1820.While this year’s cherry blossom peak was Kyoto’s earliest in 1,200 years, this isn’t the case in other parts of Japan Tokyo reached peak bloom on March 22, which is three days earlier than average and the earliest date since 1953.
However, the global trend seems to be slowly pushing cherry blossoms into full bloom to earlier in the year regardless of where they’re planted. In 2019, scientist Patrick Gonzalez noted that the trend of earlier blooming seen among cherry blossoms in Washington was “consistent with human-caused climate change.”
Cherry blossoms are considered in full or peak bloom when 80 percent of the flowers have bloomed, which usually occurs within a week of the first flowers opening. Elements other than may also be involved in the early blooming. Gonzalez offered the warning that “no research has examined all of the factors, and it is a long way to go.”
32. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By stating a fact. B. By giving an example.
C. By describing a custom. D. By sharing an experience.
33. What do Benjamin Cook’s words suggest
A. Cherry trees will die in cold weather. B. Springtime temperatures are falling.
C. Cherry is sensitive to temperature change. D. Early blooming also appeared elsewhere.
34. What can we learn about cherry blossoms from the last paragraph
A. The studies have covered all factors.
B. Further scientific study is still needed.
C. Climate change is the only influential factor.
D. Reasons of early blooming have been identified.
35. What’s the purpose of the text
A. To discuss the negative impact of human-caused climate change
B. To appeal to the public to appreciate Cherry blossoms
C To call attention to the increasing global temperatures
D. To introduce one influential factor of Cherry blossoms blooming

W: You’ve been creating beautiful artwork, and Sarah’s looking for something creative to do. She’s stressed and needs something to help her relax.
M: Oh. I could recommend once-a-week beginners’ class to develop her skills. The instructor, Ms. Thompson, is really patient and understanding. Her sister-in-law, Ms. Johnson, teaches sculpture in the same building. Their classes are very sociable.
W: That sounds perfect.

B 18. A 19. A 20. A
M: I started my own company, CyberEdit, when I was a freshman. Most students have to write essays, and I aimed to provide computer editing services for them. During one summer vacation, I worked for an Internet company and in the evening, I spent another four hours working on my website. It’s not easy to develop a business. If you hope to be financially independent, you must do something while you are young and you can work long hours. For a long time, I was editing nearly ten documents a night. I spent fifty hours a week doing this. It was hard. Then I hired my first four employees, and I never edited a single document again. The next year, I turned down my summer job at a big investment bank and spent the vacation expanding CyberEdit. In December, Wired magazine contacted me and asked me to write an article about my life. After the article appeared in March, interested investors began to contact me. In June, one of them decided to invest a large sum of money in the company. So the Wired article brought me over a million dollars in funding! More than anything else, good publicity helps a new business attract investors and customers. Investors came to me, not because I was making money and employing fifty college students, but because they read about it in Wired magazine, and saw it on ABC World News Tonight. My advice to young people who consider starting a company is: Do it now! Don’t delay starting it until you’ve finished school or had some “real-world experience”.

31. What does the author want to convey in the last paragraph

C. To call attention to the increasing global temperatures
D. To introduce one influential factor of Cherry blossoms blooming
A 33. C 34. B 35. D

I was too busy worrying about my schoolwork that I failed to please myself. Walked aimlessly, I was attracted by a sleeping cat as it lies on the side of the road. How relaxed it looked! The dusty road seemed just as comfortable as a soft bed to it. Then it hit me I was supposed to relax and simple enjoy life just like that cat. We should value every precious moments when we can freely laugh and play.
1. the→a 2. they→we 3. therefore→however 4.删除of 5. too→so 6. Walked→Walking 7. lies→lay 8.在me后加that 9. simple→simply 10. moments→moment
故将the改为a。
故将they改为we。
故将therefore改为however。
故将too改为so。
分析句子结构可知,it为句子的形式主语,真正的主语为“I was supposed to relax and simple enjoy life just like that cat.”,句子中缺少连接词,从句成分完整,所以用that,it hit sb. that...(某人突然想到)是固定句型。故在me后加that。
