A group of middle-aged dads formed a dance team to perform at their kids’ school but unexpectedly gained popularity on social media, having over 300, 000 followers—one of them is famous actor Hugh Jackman. The “Outta” Puff Daddys first came together in 2012 in Brighton for a surprise performance at their children’s annual dance show.
Having never danced as a job before and ranging in age from 42 to 60, the dads were taught by their kids’ street dance teacher for the surprise performance. They received a good reception, so they decided to carry on permanently.
Paul Jukes, 48, said dancing together has enabled the members to get through unemployment and anxiety. “Even though I’m the leader and artistic director of the team, I’m not normally the most confident guy,” said Jukes, whose team name is Jukebox. “If we’re in a party situation, we’re off at the side, but when we’re together those inhibitions (拘束感) are lost, and we just accept life to the fullest.”
The dance team members remember the moment when they surprised their kids at the dance show. “We performed at the Brighton Dome which seats 2, 000 people, so for our first live dance performance, it was quite something. We took the roof off,” Jukes said. “The noise was crazy and of course, the kids in the audience were blown away. They were shouting, ‘Hang on a second; that’s your dad.’ Most people might think our kids would be embarrassed by us but none of them had that feeling. All our families and kids were really supportive and really loved it. And it has been considered cool by them to have such a large following on Instagram.” The team has to adapt to its members’ changing bodies as they get older, but that has not stopped them from continuing to dream big, which sets a good example to their kids.
24. What’s special about the dance team
A. It helps with school dance instructions B. Its members are all inexperienced
C. It regularly posts videos on social media D. Its members are guided by famous dancers.
25 How has the dance team influenced Paul Jukes
A. It has inspired him to take up new hobbies.
B. It has improved his health and leadership skills
C. It has strengthened his relationship with his family
D. It has helped him build confidence in a tough time
26. How did the kids react to their dads’ dance performance
A. They were amazed and proud of their dads.
B. They were embarrassed but showed understanding.
C. They considered following Jukebox on social media.
D. They joined their dads to complete the performance together.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Dancing is beneficial to people of all ages
B. Talented dads celebrate their kids’ interest
C. A dance team consisting of middle-aged dads goes viral
D. A dance team is winning popularity among adults

Scientists say ocean seagrass can be a valuable tool in fighting climate change. Studies have shown that a big benefit of seagrass is that it can store up to two times the amount of carbon that forests do. If seagrass can stay healthy and grow, they can remove carbon dioxide, or CO2, from the environment. CO2 is one kind of greenhouse gas that scientists think leads to rising temperatures in the Earth’s atmosphere.
The Indian Ocean expedition (考察), led by environmental group Greenpeace, traveled to Saya de Malha, near the island nation of Seychelles. The field of seagrass at Saya de Malha is about the size of the European nation of Switzerland. Because the area is far from any coastline, it has stayed well protected from pollution and digging activities that can harm sea life. The seagrass is also closer to the surface, meaning they take in more sunlight. This environment provides shelter and rich feeding grounds for thousands of different ocean creatures.
But according to the United Nations Environment Programme about every 30 minutes, human activities are destroying seagrass areas about the same size of a soccer field. Scientists are now trying to find out the present state of the world’s seagrass. Some areas studied show the harm that human activities can cause. One study suggested that pollution from mining and damage by fisheries (渔场) may have destroyed 92 percent of mainland Britain’s seagrass over a century.
“Seychelles and Mauritius, which have joint control over the Saya de Malha’s seabed, should take measures to count and care for the wealth of seagrass in the area.” said James Michel. He served as President of the Seychelles for 12 years until 2016. Michel added, “Then we’ll be in a better position to know how to not only preserve it, but also to manage it to ensure that it is protected for the future.”
28. What do we know about the studies
A. The effect of climate change. B. The advantages of seagrass.
C. The cause of global warming. D. The steps of protecting seagrass.
29. Seagrass may prefer the environment which is .
A. easy to get sunlight B. close to coastlines
C. close to human beings D. far away from other sea life
30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The high levels of water pollution. B. People’s attempt to protect the ocean
C. The difficult situation of mining industries. D. The serious effects of human actions on seagrass.
31. What can we learn from James Michel’s words
A. More technologies need to be developed.
B. Seagrass plays an important role in fisheries.
C It is time to take measures to protect seagrass.
D. Climate change influences seagrass in many ways.
D
Pibot is the name of the robotic co-pilot developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and it’s ready to take to the skies! Pibot has a similar form to a human pilot and can fit comfortably in a pre-existing cockpit (驾驶舱) which needn’t be changed. It is about 5. 2 feet tall and weighs almost 145 pounds. Its arms and fingers are designed to skillfully hold and operate the controls in the cockpit. It also has camera “eyes” that let it see and respond to what is happening around it.
“Humans can fly many airplanes, but they do have these habits built into them. So when they try to change to different airplanes, they must take another qualification (资格),” said David Shim, one of the researchers involved in the project. “Sometimes this is not that simple because our habit remains in our mind; we can’t simply change from one to another. Pibot uses Artificial Intelligence(AI) to operate, communicate with other pilots, and make decisions all the way. It features a large memory. If we teach it how each airplane is set up, then we can have it fly the airplane by simply clicking the airplane’s type.”
Although Pibot may have advantages over human pilots, don’t worry, it’s not taking any pilot jobs away from humans anytime soon. Pibot is only expected to be fully operational by 2026. It may, in the future, make flights to the environment where it is dangerous for people to travel. Not only can it quickly adapt to changing situations, but it can also deal with these difficult conditions, which may cause the aircraft to shake. Shim said, “Pibot uses high-precision (高精度) technology to control its arms and fingers to operate an aircraft even during an emergency situation.”
Pibot is a big step forward in flight technology and could change how unmanned flights work in the future, especially in areas where manned fights cannot go. But for now, please make sure your seatbelt is fastened and take care of your baggage. Destination: The future!
32. What is mentioned about Pibot in the first paragraph
A. It has been put into use.
B. It can adapt to the cockpit very well.
C. It’s able to make the pilot more comfortable.
D. It has a camera system to record the views
33. What is the advantage of Pibot over human pilots according to David Shim
A. It can memorize a pilot’s habits quickly. B. It can make decisions on its own
C. It can avoid flying dangerous areas D. It is better at learning to fly different airplanes
34. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The possible applications of Pibot.
B. Human pilots’ expectations of Pibot.
C. Some challenges faced by Pibot in flying tasks.
D. The use of high technology in designing Pibot.
35. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of Pibot
A. Surprised. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Worried.

After his wife passed away, Stewart had to take on all the parental responsibilities, and it also meant paying for all the expenses alone. When his twin sons’ 7th birthday came, he couldn’t buy them the gifts they wanted. When his daughter was laughed at because of her worn-out shoes, he couldn’t buy her a pair of new shoes immediately. Stewart felt sorry that he could not give his children a good life, so he tried his best to look after them well and worked more than one shift (换班) a day to give them as happy a life as possible.
When Christmas came that year Stewart tried to prepare the children’s favorite food because he had no extra money for individuals gifts. Gregory, Sean and Lucy were disappointed but they didn’t want to ruin the day. After having dinner together, the kids went outside to build a huge snowman and had a snowball fight with their dad. That was their family tradition on Christmas Eve Many years passed, and Stewart’s children had their own families. Although they all lived in the same city, they seldom came back and celebrated Christmas with Stewart because they were always busy working.
Stewart would sit in a chair alone, recalling their happy time in the past. One year, Stewart once more sent his children an invitation to spend Christmas together. “Maybe they’ll accept my invitation this year,” he thought.
Stewart waited nervously on Christmas Eve, but no one appeared. Stewart became sad. Just then he heard a short knock on the door. He answered the door excitedly, only to find his grandson Tim—Sean’s son—alone at the door.
“What a surprise!” Stewart smiled. “How did you get here alone ”
Tim said sadly, “Even on Christmas Eve, my parents ignore me. They’re too busy with work. I know how much you love Christmas, so I decided to walk here.”
To cheer Tim up, Stewart decided to get dressed and build a snowman with him. The two walked outside even though Stewart’s doctor warned he would suffer a heart attack if he stayed outdoors for long in cold weather.

W: Why is everyone talking about Mars these days It has been the main topic in every class I’ve had today.
M: Same for me. It’s because everybody is so excited about China’s Tianwen-1 mission to Mars.
W: It is impressive — but why are people interested in such an empty planet
M: Because it’s quite close, in space terms. It reminds people of home — with its seasons and similar rocks. They are also interested in finding life there. If people can learn how to use what they find on Mars to grow food and build things, and if there is water below the surface, people might be able to settle there.
W: Rather them than me. It doesn’t look like a place where I’d like to live.
M: There’s a really good video online about the mission. Do you want to watch it on my phone
W: Yes, OK.

But according to the United Nations Environment Programme, about every 30 minutes, human activities are destroying seagrass areas about the same size of a soccer field.

When Christmas came that year, Stewart tried to prepare the children’s favorite food because he had no extra money for individuals gifts.

Anyway, Stewart was determined to make his grandson glad. They built a huge snowman together and made snowball with their hands. About two hours later, Tim’s parents came back home finding he was missing, and they searched for him everywhere until they saw Tim having lots of fun outside his grandfather’s house. Sean was deeply moved by the scene and joined them. Unluckily, Stewart fell onto the ground later because of his ill health. Sean rushed him to hospital and then informed Gregory and Lucy about the news.
Paragraph 2:
Hours later, Stewart woke up in hospital, seeing all his children standing around his bed. He said, “I’m so glad that you can stay with me this Christmas.” Hearing that, all the three children felt ashamed. All these years, they focused on material things and ignored their children and their father who gave them all his love and care but wasn’t young anymore.
