Hangzhou Asian Games close with great success
The 19th Asian Games closed on Oct 8. Over the 16-day Games, around 12,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions (地区)shared unforgettable times in Hangzhou.
It marks the third time that China has hosted an Asian event, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
The Hangzhou Asian Games had 40 sports, 61 disciplines (分项), and 481 events. At the top of the medal tally(奖牌榜), China got 201 golds, 111 silvers and 71 bronzes. According to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), over 60 percent of the teams at the Games won gold medals, while 85 percent reached the podium (领奖台).
“We have achieved the most successful Asian Games in history,” said Chen Weiqiang from the organizing committee(组委会).
Chen said the Hangzhou Asian Games brought together Hangzhou's history, innovation(创新)and life. It is an important chance for the city to “take off”.
Wei Jizhong from the OCA said: “The success of the Asian Games has provided the council (理事会)with a chance to set basic criteria(标准)for future Asian Games.”

Beauty in My Eyes
Beauty can be found everywhere in our life. Each person has his own understanding of it. In my eyes, beauty is not only about how you admire someone from the outside, but also about the inside qualities he or she has.
Two years ago, there was a story which made me realize the true meaning of beauty. In our class,Peter was so different from all of us. And I knew that many of our classmates talked about him because of his poor appearance and strange personality. However, things changed after a sports meeting. Before the opening of the sports meeting, I saw him run every evening after school. And I thought he would join in at least one of the running competitions to prove himself in front of us, but I was wrong. On the last day of the meeting, we were still in the second place before the final running competition started. Unluckily, our best runner got hurt and no one could take his place. Suddenly, Peter raised his left hand and said in a low voice, “You can count on me." To our great surprise, that thin and short boy beat the best runner and took the first place for our class. At that moment, I knew he was the brightest and most beautiful one in our eyes.
From a shy and “ugly" boy to the most popular one, Peter's story reminds me that behind the outside appearance lies the true meaning of beauty: the spirit of being strong-minded and never giving up and fighting for the whole team when needed.
