Material analysis Thematic context: Man and Society—sports and fitness What: the theme of this part is “make small conversations” and the grammar item in this unit is the tag questions. Tag questions are usually used in informal speaking to initiate a conversation. This unit requires students to be able to use this grammar item naturally in oral communication through observation and practice. Why: After learning this lesson, the students will be able to: use the tag question and the appropriate intonation to carry out small conversations. How: Guided by the view of English leaning activities, this class adopts CLT, TBLT and Grammar-Translation method to implement teaching activities.
Learners analysis Linguistic achievement Students in Senior Grade One are interested in The texts of this lesson are dialogues. In this lesson, students will be guided to listen to the conversations Cultural and affective state Students in Senior Grade One have some knowledge about sports. However, they don’t know some sports events and the important meaning of sports. In this lesson, students will realize the special meaning of sports events and feel the charm of sports so as to love sports.
Teaching objectives The teaching objectives of this class are set based on the analysis of materials, learners and English disciplinary-based core qualities. By the end of the class, students will be able to: master the usage of tag questions use tag questions freely in their daily communication.

Read the three conversations in pairs in activity 1 and highlight the tag questions and the answers. Enjoy a video to complete the structure of tag questions and the functions of tag plete the conversations with appropriate tag questions or correct answers in activity 2. Have a role-play in activity 3.

How to use tag questions in real situation. In order to solve this difficult point, the teacher will: Invite students to read the three conversations in pairs in activity 1. Ask students to use tag questions to role-play one of the situations in the textbook. Encourage students to use tag questions in the daily communication after school.

Stage 1 Learning and understanding (4 minutes) Step 1: Lead-in (2 minutes) (CW) Have a talk with students. T: Good morning, class. It's a nice day, isn't it Ss: Yes. T: We have stayed at home for such a long time. You are eager to go back to school, aren't you Ss: Sure, we are. T: OK, class, think about the sentences I said just now. "It's a nice day, isn't it " You are eager to go back to school, aren’t you " What are the characteristics of the two sentences Ss: Tag questions are used in the sentences.
Reasons for Stage 1 Lead to the theme of this lesson.
Stage 2 Applying and practicing (21 minutes) Step 2: Preparation (15minutes) (IW, GW) Ask students to read the three conversations in pairs in activity 1. Then highlight the tag questions and the answers. Add the following questions to guide students to think about the function of tag questions: When Amy said "It's not a real sport, is it ". What does she mean What is she asking Shen Qi for (She means she is not sure whether the sport is real or not and is asking Shen Qi for agreement.) Ask students to look at the three conversations and work in groups to find out the structure of tag questions and the functions of tag questions. Invite some groups to share the ideas. Enjoy a video to complete the structure of tag questions and the functions of tag questions. Step 3: Practice (10 minutes) (IW, GW) Complete the conversations with appropriate tag questions or correct answers in activity 2. Check the answers together.
Reasons for Stage 2 The teacher guides the students to understand the structure and usage of grammar points by reading conversations, highlighting key points and watching videos, which is interesting, vivid and multiple.
Stage 3 Transferring and creating (15 minutes) Step 4: Production (6 minute) (IW, PW, CW) Ask students to use tag questions to role-play one of the situations below in pairs. Step 6: Conclusion (2 minute) (IW, CW) The teacher makes a summary about this lesson and invites two students to share what did they learn in this lesson. Step 7: Homework (1 minute) Use tag questions in the daily communication.
Reasons for Stage 3 The role play adds interest to the dull grammar class and lets the students master the grammar points of this lesson in the role play. At the same time, this activity is close to life and lays a foundation for students to use tag questions later in daily life.
