FRANKLIN’S EXPERIMENT : How Much Is True
Developing ideas教学设计(1课时)
一. 教材分析:
本节课主要教授的是外研版(2019)必修第三册 Unit 3 The world of Science Developing ideas一课程。本单元的主题语境是“人与社会”,涉及的主题语境内容是科技发展和科学精神。Developing ideas板块课文的语篇类型为论说文。介绍了人们对Franklin著名的风筝实验真实性的怀疑和求证,学生将通过本篇课文的学习了解科学家的故事、学习科学家的求真精神。
二. 学情分析:
学生是高二年级的学生,之前因为疫情原因加上学生自己的实际水平的原因,所以我们高二才开始必修第三册的学习。我们的学生英语水平有限,而且对科学领域的知识了解相对较少。但是他们对新知识充满好奇,希望能够通过课堂学习,更好地了解科学的定义、学习科学家追求真理的精神,并能把这种精神运用到以后的英语学习中。
三.Teaching aims :
After this class ,make sure we can reach the goals :
By reading the essay ,master some vocabulary and sentence structures about science .
Learn to analyse the title and get important information from it .
Get the procedure of the experiment and learn to write experiment report in English;
Learn from scientist , always ask questions and do experiment and research to get facts 。
四.The key points and the important points :
Make sure they can read the passage to get the main idea of the passage 。
Get the procedure of the experiment and learn to write experiment report in English。
After learning the passage , make sure they know which is true and which is false in the story 。
Learn from the scientists , make them know we should not believe everything we read or hear -- even if it is a great story 。
五.Teaching methods:
1. teacher-student interaction:the teacher ask questions to help students do reading comprehension and do interaction by asking and answering questions 。
2.cooperation :work in groups to discuss and solve problems.
3.teaching with media:show ppt and tasks with media to help students know what to do .
六.Teaching procedure:
(一). leading-in
T begin the class ,I just show a picture and ask a question Who is he , then make them read the description about him , after this step , I give them a form to complete , which will help them remember the basis information about Franklin .
(二). New lesson
Step 1. Analyze the title
To help students understand the title better , so I ask a question “Why did the author use the question to be the title ” By choosing the correct answer , they will know the author’s purpose to write the essay .
Step 2: Careful reading
Read Para 1. and get the author’s view on the story .
This is an important part . read Para. 2 and finish the experiment report .
The conclusion is very important to us human . And the influence of the story have great influence on student . Go through Para. 3 and answer some questions .
Go on to Para. 4 , find the scientists’ view on the story . Do some reading comprehension to help them know which are true and which is false .
Read the last two paragraphs , do some task to help them know what scientist do to find fact . Help them to know that questioning is the key to be scientists.
Step 3 . post-reading
Think and share .
Do you think it matters that Franklin's experiment might not be true Why
What is your opinion about the statement “...we should not always believe everything we read or hear—even if it is a great story”
Students can work in groups of six to discuss . They can write down the key information while talking . Then get students to speak out their group’s opinion in class .

As their English level is different , so I give them an optional choice .

1). Read the article fluently.

2. Optional homework
1. Give a talk about your understanding of the saying “seeing is believing” with you partner and make notes about the key information .
教学反思:
本节课的教学目标基本完成,学生通过课堂讲解和讨论,学生对Franklin的实验内容有了初步的了解和认识,也了解了科学家们为了追求真理,不断思考和探索的精神。然而,在教学过程中,我也发现了一些问题。
首先,我在课堂中的互动和引导不够充分。由于时间有限,我倾向于给出答案并解释,而不是通过提问引导学生自己思考。
其次,我需要更多地关注学生的学习进步和反馈。在课堂结束前,我应该留出时间给学生提问和反馈,了解他们的疑惑和困难,并给予及时的指导和帮助。
再次,自己的备课不够充分,在 ppt制作中出现了两处错误,一个是把author 写成了auther , 还有一处是把believing 写成了believeing 。
最后,自己的英语发音和综合表达能力还需进一步提高。
